What did you drink?

Dh and I are trying to remember the drinks of our youth. (Neither of us were big drinkers, so we didn’t actually drink most of these!)

We remember:

Lager and Lime
Something and Blackcurrant - was that also lager, and did it have a name?
Something with Guinness in it.
Rum n Coke
Tequila Slammer, with salt and a wedge of lemon (or lime?)
Yayger Slammer (? I was not one of the Slammer crowd.)

We’re sure there were more, but we were too busy being squares 😆

I think the only thing I ever drank was the occasional lager and lime or rum n coke.

Early 90s. I have never been a beer drinker. I drank copious amount of Southern Comfort with coke or questionable white wines.

My friends and I all smoked Sobranie Cocktails at balls. We thought we were sophisticates. 😂

There was a horrific craze for something called a green monster. Phlegm Green and milky from advocaat, it came up the same colour it went down. Grim

Jesus Christ- I can now taste the Diamond White and K Cider hangovers now, 35 odd years later…

How tastes have changed over the decades

A pint or a Black Russian depending on funds and the occasion. I remember ripping the piss out of one of the posh lads for ordering a g&t. We thought it was hilarious for some reason.

Lager or cider or Snakebite at College Bar... I remember the local clubs doing Blue Moons, malibu and coke and Harvey Wallbangers while we danced to The Human League in our white stilettos...

In digs, we drank red Lambrusco as a Friday night treat, though it was starting to be a bit ironic by then... had it with Tesco baguettes and unripe, chalky brie... or Spud-u-like to soak it all up at the end of the night.

And the Bulgarian cabernets and merlots and other Eastern European reds were just starting to become A Thing then. Smoked Embassy or Menthol Consulate, not sure Marlboroughs were out then?

Oh the abuse of body and mind... 😄

A half of bitter or a half of lager. Cinzano and sparkling spring water (I don't like lemonade). Wine

Bristol Uni 83-6. Cider & Black (Ribena featured heavily in most Uni rooms, having been sent from home in case we caught a cold). I suspect that there was a bit of Blue Nun (and there was some weird British wine…something Castle). Once I was on my London accounting contract in the City I was more of a G&T lass (and had some decent wine, courtesy of my client lunches). I doubt my student daughter will have as much client entertaining fun as I gave and received).

At the grotty rock clubs I frequented, it was usually pints of something or voddy in a plastic glass (we weren't allowed glasses). Sticky floors, no doors on the toilet cubicles, good times 😂

Snakebite for sure late 80's. So hammered.
There was another cider we used to go to one particular pub for in Plymouth, on Union street.
I wish I could remember the name of either of them.

I think it must have been some sort of on tap special stuff concoction. Half a pint of it was quite enough.

Great days

Yes. We drank Drambuie, Cointreau, malibu. I dont remember drinking beer or wine, always liqueurs or cocktails. Great times!

I liked Blue Bols and lemonade.

Sobranies. Oh yes. Especially for balls. (That kind of uni)

Honestly, we drank anything. In my final year we had a trophy mantlepiece of empty quarter whisky bottles. That’s how sophisticated we were.

Mid 80’s - barley wine and cider. 3 pints of that did the trick.

In the 6th form though I remember lots of drinks diluted with lemonade being popular:
Southern Comfort and lemonade,
Dubonnet and lemonade,
Guinness and lemonade,
Shandy (beer and lemonade) was still popular as well.

I also used to sip Baileys Irish Cream at Christmas with my Grandad and always loved a snowball (advocaat and lemonade).

I didnt frequent the student union bar or the local student pubs to be honest so I am not that reliable but friends seemed to go for larger or tequila I was a nerdy library habitué and a coffee was also more my thing😂

Otley run. Leeds. Pint and a chaser. Every pub. Ending up in the union bar. I actually don’t know how I ended up standing. Or how I got home. I vaguely remember swinging on my doorstep. I remember drinking Bacardi and Coke one night and lining up the glasses. Apparently there were 22, how I didn’t need my stomach pumped I don’t know. I think they must have lied to me. 🤣
