What songs do you find especially sad or moving?

Interested to hear thoughts…

For me there are two that are very personal:

• U2: with or without you - we played it at my dads funeral, I was 13 and he was 41, it has a lot of significance outside of being a sad song generally
• Joy Division: Love Will Tear Us Apart - similar to the above, and made more sad with the fact the lead singer hung aged 23

special mention to Queen - No One But You. A friend sang it in an am dram production recently and I’d never noticed how heartbreaking it was

just interested as could do with a good cry!

The theme from Schindler's List, always makes me cry.

Over the Rainbow always gets me as it was sung during lockdown online by my nephews primary 1 class on their own at home and edited together by their teacher and was so moving.

Witchita Linesman for being a forlorn love song with such beautiful lyrics about love

Train in the distance by Paul Simon which evokes bittersweet memories of my parents finding their way into friendship after divorce (I think it's an untapped genre!) and

In my life by the Beatles which my dad wanted at his funeral and of course we played but now I can't hear it without crying and it's EVERYWHERE. Gorgeous song though.

Not.rtft but I'll be gobsmacked if Baz Lurman (sp), Sunscreen isn't mentioned, also "once I was 7 years old" I genuinely cannot listen to either of them

dance with my father by Luther van dross. Even though I haven’t yet lost my own father, this song still breaks me.

Oh, and “Wish you were Here” by Pink Floyd.

Simply red - holding back the years

I always have to play that at least twice, often more. Once just isn't long enough

The Joy of Living - Ewan MacColl. It was one of his last songs and a farewell to his nearest and dearest and the places he loved. I cry every time.

This song gets me every time. We played it at my Uncle's funeral because he loved it - he was very close to his dad. We were all in floods 😭

Mr Rogers by Korn. I still remember listening to that for the first time at 16 and being blown away by how intense and dark it was.

Why by Annie Lennox, especially the acoustic version she did at Live 8. It gets me everytime
