In Nuthatch's absence, I've been asked to start the new thread!

A chat thread for those of us who don't like this Labour government.

"Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."

We'll have to agree to disagree on the laughing. I think it was appalling behaviour when women are being put in danger by this policy.

I’m with you.

Parsley4321 · 23/07/2026 13:25

@Nuthatch26 sadly not to their faces I never see the fucking idiots around as I never go to the hell hoke that is Stroud if I can help it Vince was a member of my club don’t see him there anymore can’t see him being welcome left wing rest living on a barge member of a smart club total hypocrite

It seems to me the 20% cut on Business Rates for Pubs and Music Venue's is designed to appease Andy's mate Sasha Lord. He is even using the words 'Working Class' Culture In his words, he obviously believes that Restaurants and Hotels are not for Working People ! The man is a complete 'Knob' and is acting entirely in the way I imagined he would do so. There, is no distinction in the desperate need for help in the hospitality industry whether it is the Ritz Hotel or Ashton Town FC Community Clubhouse. This being the Community centre where Andy and his disciples decided, to inhabit after effectively becoming Prime Minister with 24000 votes.

The other fool Gary Lineker and his letter from 100 Multi Millionaires, saying how delighted they would be to pay more tax, well they will need to after wealth taxes would probably cause 100,000 Millionaires to leave. The, stupidity of these people knows no bounds and gets more infuriating every single day, listening to their virtue signalling crap.

That’s a good point on hotels and restaurants, how infuriating for them.

You couldn't write this stuff. The times has union boss saying the race to net zero is leaving towns worse off like the de industrialisation of thatchers era.

You can't get a piece of paper between Milliband and his replacement .

I’ve only seen the most general headlines about this 20% cut policy - some relief for pubs and clubs seems to be the summary.

Anyone know the details of what it covers, and what it doesn’t cover?

SapphireCasino · 23/07/2026 15:39

I've been complaining about Net Zero for so long and all I get is "don't you care about the environment?" I stopped complaining ages ago because clearly it makes you very unpopular.

I'm still unclear the extent to which people have woken up about it.

Slight side bar - I saw the oddest thing today. You know how the country has leaned culturally left for ages - I totally blame the Tories for this.

Today I saw a promotional thing by a wealth consultant - I was looking to see what one of my networking contacts was up to and she's got some work with them. very small - not going to name them.

So this will be PR but they are running articles about the ethics of wealth and how they advise people on "giving back".

I don't normally look at the website of wealth consultants because it's not really relevant to me. I was wondering if this is normal? Or if it's just part of the whole "wealthy people get a bad rep and have to try and fix it somehow".

Basically, I don't like the way wealthy people get demonised - but it probably feeds into celebrities announcing campaigns to pay more tax, yes?

On the flipside, I had a boss who was extremely wealthy and he said to me that philanthropy has got harder because there are now so many rules attached to anything that you want to do. He has done a lot. But nobody wants to wade into a massive load of red tape just to donate artwork to a community building.

DancingFerret · 23/07/2026 16:15

Burnham has paused the prisoner early release scheme.

I haven't paid enough attention to the scheme to make any meaningful comment, but based on the little I know, this is a good thing as it seemed to be a blanket release based on time served only rather than in depth consideration of individual crimes and impact on families and/or victims.

CruCru · 23/07/2026 19:28

EasternStandard · 23/07/2026 09:57

Haha what? Of course

Checked here it is

Yes, Gary Lineker and his former wife Danielle Bux (trading as Gary Lineker Media) took HMRC to the First-tier Tax Tribunal over a £4.9 million IR35 tax dispute. Lineker won the initial tribunal ruling in March 2023. While HMRC later appealed to the Upper Tribunal, the ongoing legal battle was resolved via a confidential out-of-court settlement in December 2024.

Lineker is a bit of a pillock. He fell out with his son’s school because he didn’t do well enough to go to university. Perhaps fair enough but he did it so publicly, it’s the first thing I think of when I think of him.

LupaMoonhowl · 23/07/2026 20:59

Of course he is.
Because lefties airmiles don’t count for carbon emissions, do they?
Never see a better demonstration of gravity than a leftie ditching ‘principles’ when b there an opportunity for grift.

Middlerage · 24/07/2026 07:07

we all knew what Ed’s values were worth…I’m sure Lineker is one of those parents now who has decided that private schools aren’t worth it on the basis of his experience.

strawberrybubblegum · 24/07/2026 07:57

Lineker's net worth is estimated at around £30million. With that kind of wealth, his children's education wasn't really about preparing them for a job where academic ability is important.

Given his likely aspirations for them, having a public spat with the (very famous and well-respected) school does seem even more silly and counterproductive than it would be for other parents.

Which is rather in keeping with my opinion of his wider judgement.

Being a good footballer doesn't give his opinions outside football much value...

WildClover · 24/07/2026 08:45

Lineker hasn't been on my radar much..but guess more I hear of him, the more I dislike him.

Nuthatch26 · 24/07/2026 09:02

Good morning 😁

I'm quite glad Ed is abroad. Better there than here imo.

This video made me laugh in The Times. A woman was so intent on shouting abuse at Farage, she crashed her car.

I wonder if she's on MN? 😂

On Burnham overturning various things eg Rosebank the pro Labour will switch messaging to say how good it is.

It’s nonsense, either it was a good idea or not.

SpaceRaccoon · 24/07/2026 09:08

@DancingFerret I know that train route well, and glad you had a mostly enjoyable time and found the scenery lovely.
That's a shocking incident. Tbh that family are lucky they didn't encounter the wrong (right?) person, as there are many in Glasgow/West coast of Scotland who aren't backward about coming forward to dole out appropriate consequences.

Not to digress too much but I've been following some X accounts about small companies and visa sponsorships and it's the next brewing scandal, and possibly goes some way to explain how you wind up with entirely unsuitable, low-calibre people all over the country, including rural Scotland.

Oh absolutely.
It's amazing how quickly they shift their allegiance when it suits. At least they've stopped bigging up the Greens - for now.

Oh well, still better than Bollard (who they insisted was the second coming).

I couldn't stop watching that. Absolutely hilarious.

Apparently Burnham is working from No.10 North today.
What a load of nonsense.

What a load of nonsense.

I don't really understand how that would work. I have an image of him in a tiny box room/ office in his house, in shorts and a coffee stained t shirt.
