Is anyone actually sunbathing in this weather?

When I was young it was my mission to get a tan on holiday or even in the back garden whenever the sun came out. I could lie out for hours with factor 4. Everyone seemed to do it!

I just sat in the garden for 5 minutes and it was unbearable so I have come back in to watch the tennis with the fan blasting.

I’m only twenty minutes drive from a beach but haven’t sat on the sand for years.

Do people still sunbathe or like to tan these days? Are you lying in your back garden in the heatwave?

used to sunbathe regullary in the back garden unfortunately diagnosed with brain tumour as a result due to medication im losing my hair so i have to wear a hat which i hate ! but doing research i was not aware that even if you have a good head of hair you should apply sunscreen ( spray ) so i'm looking forward to the winter months with no hat

Just moved into a new house where the back of the house is south facing. Last couple of days it's been around 33 out the back. I have had to put a sun hat on to put the washing out. I was sorting boxes out in the front bedroom and neighbour's opposite were banging up an awning - no surprise. That's on my tick list for the autumn. The heat has been so intensive here in Beds - no idea how anyone sun bathes in it.

The best time to get a tan is in the mornings and evenings when sun is low. Nothing worse than baking in the sun. I get bored sitting around the pool, I get bored sitting in the garden. I get a tan best just going about my day. However, I'm very fair and my mum had skin cancer so spent my life scared of the sun.

No. The sun has felt too intense while I’ve been putting washing on the line. I noticed the same when I tried sitting out in the sun after 5pm one Sunday back in May. Even with high factor sun cream on I felt like I was burning. The previous day had been lovely.

At the most I would consider putting my legs out in the sun while the rest of me was sat in the shade.

Within the very near future I think tanning will become like smoking .. something only older people and those who see Towie as aspirational🤣 still do.

I’ve stayed out of the sun and in my flat during the heatwave, unless I’ve had to go out for a work meeting (I WFH).

I live in Cornwall but haven’t been to the beach in so long. Would avoid July & August anyway as it can get incredibly crowded. I sit in the garden in the sun but never for long & never use below a Factor 50.

Yes definitely. Listening to a podcast with a giant hat on and my bikini and SPF 50. Love it Having shade breaks every 20 mins to top up my water.

I used to for short periods, but I've young children now so I'm just too hot in general yet alone to sunbath 😩

I haven't sunbathed since 1.pm August 4th 1972, when after 5 mins exposing my back I came up with a tremendously itchy rash. I had gone out when a solar storm reached Earth (you can look it up). Since there is no way of knowing if one is about to hit apart from obsessively monitoring NASA I gave up. Not worth the extra UV which gets through under such circumstances, and it was a reminder that the usual variety isn't that good either. It turned out my mother had had a similar experience in the twenties, which she thought was an allergy to sunlight, and the chemist prescribed calcium tablets. I took them and Vit D and they helped it clear up. I have not checked solar weather in the 1920s though.

Nope. I was born in Australia - I avoid the sun. I work with people who use sunbeds. Skin cancer is one the fastest growing cancers in this country and one of the most difficult to treat.

You can get a colour in Scotland - blue.

Yes, DD17 is sunbathing most days.
She finds out what the UV levels are and then bastes herself.

Depends on which part of Scotland you're in. I'm in the Central Belt and we've had hot sunny weather for a few days now (albeit not as hot as Southern England/London) and today is glorious! Bright blue cloudless sky and the sun is pretty hot. Perfect!

When I brought in the washing yesterday evening the sheets felt like they’d been ironed on the hottest setting so imagine what that heat would do to our precious skin 🔥. Having said that this is the first year that I haven’t sunbathed. The sun has scared me a bit so I sit under a huge parasol with a good thriller. I’m only a five minute walk to the beach and I haven’t been there while temperatures are this high.

No I hate it! I’m that person on holiday in a full sun hat and chasing the shade like a vampire. Tanning = ageing to me!

Yeah, this is me too. Never burned thankfully but I did get a bit of heat exhaustion in Greece when I was about 20. All of my pals with me there were pale and freckly and stayed in the bars all the time so I was out on my own with no one to check in with me (entirely my fault of course, but previous holidays with family and sun-worshipper friends meant we all kept an eye on each other and had regular breaks).

Factor 50 on my face every day from March-September now, suncream on arms and legs whenever I have to be out in it, a big hat, and shade where possible. I just hope I haven’t done too much damage in my youth.
