Our hydrangea is well-established, but it does need lots of water.

Good luck with the surgery @pointythings

Re next thread, assuming Spain win the World Cup, how about 'Todos aclamen al nuevo rey'?

Should get some posters frothing!

cardibach · 19/07/2026 21:05

Good luck and speedy recovery to your DS @pointythings
I had great hydrangeas at my last house. Haven’t tried here.
reason 8937283838 to hate the World Cup. I got in from that London knackered and starving and ordered a Pad Thai via UberEats. No driver would touch it due (I imagine) to watching millionaires kick a ball. Took me an outrageous amount of time to get a cancellation and full refund. Bastards.

BestIsWest · 19/07/2026 21:27

Roses like sun and clay soil @dontcallmelen. They do need watering and feeding but they are quite happy in sunshine. We have some fabulous ones in the walled garden including climbers on south facing walls and they are very happy. There I go sounding like a gardener again!

Actually even if Argentina win, that would still apply! I was thinking of Brazil Blush

dontcallmelen · 19/07/2026 21:53

Thanks @BestIsWest good to know have been regularly watering them posssibly Dh has been feeding them the red one (called Galway Bay) is particularly splendid this year.
@cardibach hope you have managed some dinner after all the gadding about over the weekend & marathon driving session.

With a new order theme:

Me siento tan extraordinaria (we are mostly female here, AFAIK)

Or, more simply, fe verdadera

cardibach · 19/07/2026 22:20

@dontcallmelen i had some avocado and tomato salad plus toast and cheese. And much wine.

Might not have been what you were fancying but sounds lush.

Agree.

Very much enjoying the Spanish footballers doing their best to ignore Trump 😁

LittleBowSheep · 20/07/2026 00:44

Is it just me that doesn't like hydrangeas then?

Never been keen on them - not sure why

My parents had a big one by the front door which they were very fond of - but never felt the same

BIossomtoes · 20/07/2026 06:29

I like them but only the white ones. Our garden is purple, white and green and I’d dearly love a white hydrangea. It seems it won’t survive though. I’m going to try a passionflower next year.

They’re ok. I have some hydrangeas in the front garden, and I like them because they’re very low-maintenance.

I loved the booing of Trump and the Spanish team ignoring him. Rooney’s verdict on the half-time show was brilliant too— 😄The other presenters faces.

Looking forward to Starmer's speech and Burnhams. Loud amplifiers have been banned - thanks goodness.

What's the thread title going to be called?

DuncinToffee · 20/07/2026 08:38

⏰ Timings for today’s handover ⏰

1115 Keir Starmer speech + departure

1240 Andy Burnham arrives + speech

Expected to be wrapped up by 1300.

Then cabinet appointments begin.

The new thread title is up for debate. My suggestion is Burnham: esperanza en cada corazón

Spandauer · 20/07/2026 09:43

Best wishes to your DS @pointythings Hopefully the cooler weather (🤞🏻) will make his recovery easier.

Green is my favourite colour but unfortunately my fingers don't know that. Our garden survives - just!

DuncinToffee · 20/07/2026 09:45

New thread then once Burnham is confirmed?

Happy to go with Blossom's suggestion.

I have to go out at 1pm, hopefully it's all wrapped up then

This from the BBC live blog

Andy Burnham has told the Times his father Roy - a lifelong Labour man, living with Alzheimer’s - doesn’t know his son is about to become Labour’s eighth prime minister; the country’s 59th.

Another vote for this one ♥️

countrygirl99 · 20/07/2026 09:49

That's a tough thing for Burnham to cope with. My mum still thinks Boris is PM and can't understand why the people on the news keep getting it wrong.
