Abnormally high FIT test

I have had bowel and digestive problems on and off for a few years. This weekend I was in a lot of pain and cramping after seeing a GP I had to do a FIT test and a Calprotectin test. Anyway I handled them in yesterday morning and my FIT has come back abnormal my level is 400.

I have to go back to the GP tomorrow and am on 2 week pathway.

I knew something wasn't right, I'm in a bit of a flap so any comforting advice, stories or help would be appreciated.

I'm home and it's done. No sedation as they said the drug they give Fentanyl is likely to make me more agitated and panicky. So I just had gas and air.
Im not going to lie. It wasn't a pleasant procedure and I wouldn't look forward to having it again if I had to.
I had two polyps removed and sent for testing and I biopsy taken on inflammation in my lower left side. So I don't have any answers as yet and they couldn't tell me if it was anything sinister
I am shattered and surprisingly still not hungry and I haven't farted yet at all.

This is exactly like my dad. Polyps were benign and inflammation was due to Diverticula disease. Nothing life threatening.

Well done OP. It doesn’t sound too sinister. I’m sure you’ll be fine. Be proud of yourself. I had it a month ago and felt so brave as it was bloody awful.

Ahhh well done OP! Mine is next weekend at 8am. Absolutely dreading it. I have no symptoms apart from tiredness, which is weird! FIT was 160.

The FIT test is looking for digested blood in your poo. It doesnt mean that its cancer it could be any number of things. It doesn't mean you're not going to be thinking about it. However its likely to be wasted energy. In any situation like this the GP initiates the 2 week wait policy, that is the reason for fast action. Good luck OP.!

We're all different, I really didn't like it at all and it's wasn't so much painful as this weird discomfort that went right through me. They kept telling me I had a pretty colon 😂 and they kept telling me they were almost done when they weren't! I feel a bit stressed from it all.

everyone told me the prep was the worst part. I didn't like it but I didn't find that too bad really. It was the procedure I really didn't like.

Hopefully I haven't got anything sinister but I'm still in the dark about that, they didn't even offer an explanation as to why my fit test was so high.

Ah well done OP! All of that with only gas and air? You’re a star! It would have been easier with sedation, so please give yourself huge credit for getting through it with just gas and air!
Lower left inflammation will probably (but not definitely) be diverticulitis. Nothing sinister, but flare ups can be painful.

The endoscopist at said it wasn't diverticular when I asked about it she said that wasn't visible.

I have inflammation but it was diagnosed as gastritis due to painkillers. No biopsy. Maybe that’s it.

I was so tired yesterday I thought I'd sleep like a log. I had a dreadful nights sleep I struggled to nod off, I managed a few hours sleep then was wide awake at 4am, dozed til 6am and then have been awake still. I'm passing gas and feel like I need a bowel movement but nothing much is happening. My stomach feels tender and sore but I'm guessing that's normal after having a colonoscopy

Yes that all sounds normal. You won’t have anything left to do a poo, but you will still have some gas rumbling around in there. It might be uncomfortable for a day or two.

But on the plus side....it's not yesterday! Any chance for you to have a relaxed day, or alternatively, do something nice?

Today I plan on resting, pottering about the house and trying to build myself back up I genuinely feel like I've been through the wars. I'm so glad I booked today off work because if I jab to would have found it a struggle.
I feel really weak but I'm guessing having only eaten a Mcchicken sandwich meal yesterday since fasting from Wednesday lunchtime the lack of food is making me feel a bit off too.

They will definitely allow you to have it without sedation.

ive had two colonoscopies. The first I had sedation but it didn’t work. However, I was fine and didn’t feel I needed it. The consultant then suggested that I don’t bother with it for my next one so I would be able to drive myself home. Was absolutely fine. Slightly uncomfortable at certain points but no pain.

I had really bad back pain after mine, felt awful for about 24 hours. Definitely take it easy!

My stomach is sore in lower left where they took a biopsy. But I'm not in enough pain to take painkillers.
Ive figured that taking the prep, not eating, having the procedure and being filled with gas, then having polyps and biopsy taken I'm not likely to feel on top of the world today. It's a lot to go through in a short space of time.
Ive had some Greek yogurt and honey and DH has said he'll take me out for lunch. I'm still planning on sticking to plain foods for a bit longer though just not as restrictive as the low residue diet has been. I'm actually craving vegetables!

Do you have your notes - does it say anything about the polyps? When mine was removed it just said it was a small inflammatory polyp and unlikely to be anything sinister (and it wasn't). They took a few other biopsies too but said everything looked fine and took me off the 2WW pathway there and then. Later I had a letter saying everything was clear.

I didn't get any explanation for the high FIT and calprotectin scores either - I had a small bowel ultrasound about 6 months later but that didn't show anything. But it seems like it relates to certain foods and if I avoid them or only eat them cooked/in small quantities I am fine.

I didn't get any other information other than two polyps were removed - I forgot to ask how big they were. And I have inflammation in left sigmoid colon and a biopsy was taken to determine the cause. I have been getting soreness and mild pain in lower left so I know now it's from the inflammation. They didn't mention anything about removing me from 2w pathway and nothing about the cause for the high FIT I'm guessing my high calprotectin is the inflammation in sigmoid. I've been having issues for a while and have had new for me alternating bowel habits, blood and mucus in stool, wind and bloating amongst other things. I don't feel particularly reassured after the colonoscopy and have to wait 6-8 weeks for results and follow up with consultant. I literally walked away with basic aftercare notes.

@Thomastuchel did they give you a print out of the colonoscopy report? I should have mentioned it before you went, you are entitled to a copy of the report which is filled in by the Endoscopist after they complete your procedure. It will be a digital reporting system (different hospitals use different reporting systems), but it’s possible to print a physical copy.

No I never got anything like that. To be fair I was dressed, swigged my tea and wolfed down some bourbon biscuits as fast as I could to get out of there.
