Abnormally high FIT test

Thomastuchel · 08/07/2026 16:30

I have had bowel and digestive problems on and off for a few years. This weekend I was in a lot of pain and cramping after seeing a GP I had to do a FIT test and a Calprotectin test. Anyway I handled them in yesterday morning and my FIT has come back abnormal my level is 400.

I have to go back to the GP tomorrow and am on 2 week pathway.

I knew something wasn't right, I'm in a bit of a flap so any comforting advice, stories or help would be appreciated.

Things aren't too bad Thankyou. I still have no results from the colonoscopy. It's been six weeks today so hopefully soon I should hear something. I'm not having the problems I was having before the colonoscopy touch wood

That's excellent news @Thomastuchel 👍

So my polyps were benign, the biopsy showed inflammation that had healed and I've been discharged from the department. I'm now going to see my GP to discuss what could have caused the inflammation, pain in lower left, blood in stool and passing muscus. For a good two weeks I wasn't well with it and obviously by the time I had got my colonoscopy though it had began to heal.

It does sound like diverticulitis

This is what I'm wondering, I have a GP appointment in the next couple of weeks to discuss it. I'm worried it will happen again. I still am having stomach issues, mainly not feeling completely empty after going and feeling the urge to go when I don't need to, alongside gas, bloating etc.

Did you get any further with the gynae side of things? It may be worth pushing this side of things as reading your posts back sounds so similar to mine, issues going between gynae and gastro and not quite knowing where its coming from. Although honestly I was told it wasnt gynae and the endometriosis was only found as I had to have surgery for the ovarian cyst or I fear I would still be being told that it wasnt a gynae issue.

I have a transvaginal ultrasound next week to see if there's anything gynaecological going on.

Do you get any issues with your periods? Being heavy? Or very painful? I only ask as you are mentioning bowel symptoms, cramping and your periods and it made me think about my own issues. Again had raised calprotectin, blood in stools, clear colonoscopy but it turns out I have endometriosis around my bowels which was mistaken for IBS for years and then they suspected IBD but no one suggested endometriosis and it was only found as I had a large ovarian cyst that had to be removed.

Its just another thing it could potentially be. I know its so easy to worry about what it could be but hopefully you get some answers from the colonoscopy soon.

So today I had a Transvaginal scan and I have a large cyst on my right ovary. I don't know what the next steps are. Somographer said it's large and complex and will refer back to GP with recommendation of seeing a gynaecologist. It seems you were right in mentioning periods!

Did they give any idea of the type of cyst or the size? If you have access to NHS online the report should give more info.
I would honestly not be surprised if when they remove this (as I assume that will be the next step) that endometriosis wasnt found too, its exactly what happened to me even down to the cyst on the right ovary, which ended up meaning I lost my ovary and tube due to the size.

If there is any suspicions of endometriosis then I would also push to see a specialist rather than just a gynae surgeon as its 50/50 as to whether they can even spot endometriosis during surgery. But the problem is mine was only suspected when I saw a specialist who I paid to see privately and I was lucky that although my surgery was done by general gynae, its at a BSGE accredited hospital so I wonder if they all have a bit more endometriosis knowledge and mine was found.

I will say if it needs removing ask to get on that surgery list asap, because if they dont deem it urgent then surgery lists can be long. Mine was put on the expedited surgery list and that was a 60-65 week wait.

The sonographer said it was large, but she had seen larger and that it was complex. She did explain some things but it sounded complicated. I didn't ask about the size as I was a bit shocked - I was expecting to have the scan and nothing would be found. She said she would tell my GP it needed Gynae referral.

When she said she was going to scan my ovaries next the left side felt completely fine, when she moved over to the right it hurt, more like pressure than pain but it was uncomfortable.

It kind of makes sense to me now given my symptoms which I kept saying felt more Gynae than gastro.

There is nothing on my nhs app about the appointment at all. I do have a scheduled GP appointment next week so if I haven't heard from them by then I will be bringing it up. Again I am slightly worried, I'd just had the relief that the colonoscopy had nothing sinister going on and now this.

I imagine your GP would arrange a CA125 nlood test if not the gynae will but if its large (over 5cm I believe) they usually will want to remove it. Hopefully they move things quickly but might give you some answers.

When the scan appears on your NHS file it might say what type of cyst it is.

I've started spotting today 🤦🏼‍♀️ could the internal scan have caused it??

Ive not had that happen but it can do as ive known this to happen with a friend after her scan and the doctor said it can be related.

Thomastuchel · 29/09/2026 16:44

I started spotting after my colonoscopy too. Still no notes on my NHS app and I've not heard from my GP surgery yet either.

I think mine usually takes about a week after an ultrasound for the report to go on the system. Its such a pain with all the waits in between when you just want answers. Unfortunately I would be prepared for a potential long wait, ive discovered the last few years that women's health rarely moves fast. Occasionally something will be done quickly, but most of the time its painfully long waits depending on the area you are in.

Thomastuchel · 29/09/2026 17:15

I'm not expecting there to be any rush for it to appear on the app. My notes still have nothing in regards to the colonoscopy or even being referred for this scan.

I'm not having a period I haven't had one in I don't know how long many months. I've been so hot all day and sweating stood in front of a fan and having episodes of anxiety. Now I'm bleeding ffs.
