Abnormally high FIT test

Thomastuchel · 08/07/2026 16:30

I have had bowel and digestive problems on and off for a few years. This weekend I was in a lot of pain and cramping after seeing a GP I had to do a FIT test and a Calprotectin test. Anyway I handled them in yesterday morning and my FIT has come back abnormal my level is 400.

I have to go back to the GP tomorrow and am on 2 week pathway.

I knew something wasn't right, I'm in a bit of a flap so any comforting advice, stories or help would be appreciated.

Sleep well - there are so many of us thinking of you!

Thomastuchel · 06/08/2026 06:09

I managed a reasonably decent sleep. I was so cold though I ended up sleeping in my dressing gown and winter socks.
Alarm was set for 6am but I woke at 5:50 needing the toilet.
I've started the 2nd prep which is fun because I'm already running to the toilet without drinking that.

Today is the day 😭 of procedure

Good morning OP!
Thinking of you today.
The second batch of prep was a struggle for me and I didn't even drink it all and they still managed to do the procedure- my appointment was later in the day like you.
You are so almost there now. You can do it!

The second prep has been brutal. I feel so ill, tired, washed out. And I'm so dizzy and lightheaded I keep having waves of anxiety too. The anxiety isn't helping with the already tired and washed out feeling.

Well done for getting through this stage - so much closer to this been over and done with this morning - you’re looking after your health, that’s so important

Bless you. The second prep is brutal. If it helps, once I'd finished drinking it I actually started to feel physically better by the time of the appointment. I think the final clear out is just awful!

Thomastuchel · 06/08/2026 09:13

Having to drink it at 6am isn't helpful to me as I struggle in a morning as it is.
But I genuinely felt shocking in the two hours after taking it. I felt lightheaded, dizzy, really nauseous. It kicked more out of me than the first dose did. It was over and done with in an hour last night with no other symptoms. This morning has been more urgent need to go and I felt so washed out. Feeling a tad better now than I did earlier so hopefully the worst is over with and I feel better by the time I need to leave for hospital.

I'm also feeling a bit cold again even though the sun is shining and it's probably about 20 degrees outside

OP posts:
Quokkafeet · 06/08/2026 10:00

Sounds just like my experience OP. You're cold because there's no fuel in you. It's all temporary and you are almost there 💪

Thomastuchel · 06/08/2026 10:06

Surprisingly I don't feel hungry.
im having a little rest before showering shortly and getting ready to go last fluids at 12:30pm two hours before appointment.
I think the worst of the prep is over with for now it's been well over 30 mins since I last went to the loo.

OP posts:
Thomastuchel · 06/08/2026 12:33

I am so, so wiped out I can't believe how tired that prep made me feel.
I'll be leaving in about an hour, I can't have fluids now which is frustrating. The nerves are starting to creep in about the procedure.

Good luck with test and don't be afraid to ask for gas and air or sedation if you need it.

Thomastuchel · 06/08/2026 13:01

Not sure what to do I'm so petrified about the sedation. But I'm also scared of it being painful without. Leaving shortly and I still keep feeling like I need the loo but there's not a left to come out I don't think.

I remember my prep .. I honestly thought I was dying the effects were so brutal 🫣
Hope all goes well OP, it’ll be over and done with in no time .
💐

Change2banon · 06/08/2026 13:02

Honestly the sedation is fine. You may not even think you’re ‘out of it’ but you will be. It’s very odd. The nurses will also be very good with you. Tell them your fears and anxieties.

Thomastuchel · 06/08/2026 13:05

Some one else has said the same to me if I have the sedation i won't realise.
I can't decide what to do for best.

valadon68 · 06/08/2026 13:05

Good luck OP! WELL DONE for doing this.
The sedation was bloody lovely actually. I dread to think what I may have said when I came round as I remember being very chatty on the phone when they brought me a cup of tea afterwards. But I would take it if you can.
I was just affronted that my prep was only rated as 'satisfactory'. After all the prep drama, I wanted a bit more recognition.

Thomastuchel · 06/08/2026 13:08

I'm not there yet. fucking terrified I just keep taking deep breaths and thinking in maybe two hours it'll be done

You’re not knocked out, I was chatting to the nurses, but very unaware of what they had done! It is really odd. I didn’t feel drowsy either. It’s the most bizarre thing.

Thomastuchel · 06/08/2026 13:13

Was you able to leave without waiting about for ages?

Yes, I think only half an hour or so. Someone had to come onto the department to collect me though, you’re not allowed to go away by yourself. There was literally no after effects at all. I wasn’t woozy or anything.

Thomastuchel · 06/08/2026 13:18

I get such bad anxiety as it is I'm really scared now

Honestly OP, talk to them as soon as you get there, they will be great with you. Try to keep telling yourself it’s all gonna be okay. It honestly will be nothing like what you’re building it up in your head (not patronising). Your anxiety is very real, and the nurses can help with that. 💐

Thomastuchel · 06/08/2026 13:28

Thankyou So much. I'm about to leave so I'll update when it's done. I know being anxious is nornal but mine gets next level with procedures and hospitals.
