What is Rubio referring to then?

Q: Do you rule out striking civilian infrastructure?

MARCO RUBIO: Iran's policy is an eye for an eye. The president's policy is a head for an eye. Honestly. That's what it's going to be. They're going to pay a very heavy price. They are going to suffer more.

(Definitely not a yes!)

Scrotus needs no way out. How often have we heard "I never said that, maybe I did say that, but I didn't" and "I never knew the guy, maybe I talked to him, I don't remember him, but I never knew him".

News briefing soon on the war and the 'new accord' with SA

SerendipityJane · 23/07/2026 16:18

Interesting discussion that individual US states can grant extra freedoms to citizens that SCOTUS can't remove.

I mean obviously you'd never end up in a situation where a block of some states allowed more rights than another block of states. But this is good to know.

DuncinToffee · 23/07/2026 16:42

Leavitt just confirmed that Trump is unilaterally changed the terms of the Saudi nuclear deal via Truth Social posts without even contacting any Saudi officials

Let us not forget that the Inquisition tortured people and killed them horribly in order that their immortal souls should be saved. It made sense to them that anything in the way of suffering on earth was preferable to eternal damnation.

Similarly, Mother Theresa was opposed to pain relief for the terminally ill because their suffering in this life would help to redeem their souls in the next.

There have always been Christians who were awful people doing awful things for what they thought were good reasons. Or people who thought themselves Christians who etc. Whether Christ would have recognised them as having anything to do with what he tried to teach, who knows, but I think I'm allowed to doubt that he would have done.

Jesus would have been done for extremism under this government | Giles Fraser: Loose canon

Loose canon: Jesus was violent, hung out with terrorists, called for a religious state and the end of the world. So why are we so ready to accuse Islam of having the problem?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 23/07/2026 17:05

I don't think that is relevant to what I was saying, because I don't think this government makes any particular claim to be Christian.

Talkinpeace · 23/07/2026 17:25

I admit,
I remain very angry with the Democratic leadership, senators, congressmen, governors, state senators
that they have not continually called out the mess

by staying at work during the illegal shutdowns (they still get paid)

and more importantly
rallying round two or three REALLY good speakers who can be the anchor pins for the mid terms and head into 2028

The Dems sparring seems counterproductive to me. But apparently the order in which states vote can boost certain candidates over others.

  • South Carolina going first could give former Vice President Harris an advantage in a 2028 primary. Early polls show her dominating the potential 2028 field among Black voters.
  • Progressive Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders won Nevada comfortably in 2020. His protégé, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, is weighing a White House run and could start with a base of support if Nevada, where organized labor wields more influence, were to go first.

Black, Latino Dems feud over 2028 primary calendar.

I think Kamala's dead in the water after the Biden withdrawal debacle in 2024. Not saying he should or shouldn't have withdrawn, just that it was handled badly and many people are still not completely happy with that.

AOC, as much as I love her, has a snowball's chance in hell, Mamdani's election was due to the fact that NYC is a 'microcosm' of semi-socialism. AOC will still be considered as too 'radical' for many Dems as well as at 36 too young by TPTB in the Dem party. They not only need as many Dem voters as possible, they need to win over independents and disaffected GOP in the swing states, many of which are either purple or 'lean red'. The electoral college system means that it takes more than just the popular vote to win.

Gavin fits the bill, but I'm not sure even he could win the swing states, although I think he has a better chance than Kamala or AOC.

We'll have to wait til after the midterms to really see which way the wind will blow. If there's a Blue Wave with a good number of more 'hard left progressive' candidates winning in certain states that may open the field a bit more for the Dem nom in 2028.

More like the '60s. His 'red scare' commie fear mongering is right out of the 1960s GOP playbook. I remember it well.

Anyone want to place bets on how soon 'duck and cover drills' will be reinstituted in MAGA states?

I'm going 50s and the execution of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg.

Because he will save them from the evil god-hating commies.

I think that’s very true. But too many of them also seem to genuinely believe everything he says, so it isn’t just that.

It started because of Trump’s support for overturning Roe vs Wade but it’s gone well beyond that now.

If Kamala Harris is the presidential candidate I'll sit it out
Also AOC
Also Bernie Sanders
Seriously - play to the nave not the Choir.

The Dems need to get their shit in gear
who can do an open Q&A with HOSTILE crowds and press
who can grasp the big issues at high speed in a press ambush

(yes I know the MAGAs cannot, but the Dems have to)

Who are the 50+ straight white men or women (sorry but its true)
who can NAIL the points
such that grade schoolers (MAGAs) understand
