Why was there so little public celebration after England's win?

I expected joy on the streets after England's win. But no?

Exactly. 9 million people watching at 2 AM is far from the majority not giving a shit. Bearing in mind that those figures will be vastly less than the actual numbers based on the amount of people who will have watched in pubs, bars, clubs, round people’s houses etc.

They are living in a very different world to me.
Well, millions and millions of us will be watching on Saturday. Enjoy the game x

Just because lots of people watch it doesn't mean that a majority are interested. I believe that the viewing figures for the last match were about 9m - that's about 12% of the population. Even if they double for the next match that still means that 3/4 of the population CBA.

I just dont get why everyone is meant to make a big fuss about some guys kicking a ball about a field for a bit. There are so many sports that aren't football that are more interesting but never get the airtime.

You do know the game was on at 2 AM yes?

And that 9 million is by no means representative of the exact figures given the numbers who will have watched in groups etc.

People absolutely don’t have to be interested in football, or any other sport for that matter.

But suggesting that the vast majority aren’t interested in England in the World Cup is bollocks.

The pubs are making millions extra during the world cup, so it's good for business.

I didn't use to be interested in football (why does everyone get so exited about 11 men kicking a ball ....?) But then along came Italia 90, Brazil winning 1994, France 1998, and now I really enjoy it.

Wow. You are kind of making yourself look a bit silly here.
So far the World Cup has attracted billions of viewings.
You must be living in a bubble.
Name another UK Sports tournament that has raised billions this year. I will wait….

What exactly do people think they’re achieving by coming on to a thread with the sneering tones some have other than to make themselves look a bit stupid really.

So if you don’t like football it’s not hard to not post on a thread which makes it clear it’s about football.

While we all know that England haven’t made it to the final yet or won, the fact that they beat Mexico, and that this is the first time since 2013 that Mexico have been beaten at home absolutely is something to celebrate.

Unfortunately I think some of that was overshadowed by the cheating Americans, and I’m extatic that they were thrashed. They absolutely deserved to be, and based on the rules should have been eliminated from the tournament anyway the moment the orange twat got involved.

And Arthur Ferry is also worth celebrating. He came in on a wildcard and has made it as far as the semi finals. Bloody well done and good luck to him. I only hope that the public and the media don’t put unfair expectations on him going forward and build him up to knock him back down again..

You’ve overdone the bold.

I can't agree.
It is a great post.

People who respond to a post by criticising some inane feature which has nothing to do with said post, so a punctuation or spelling or whatever generally just make themselves look a bit silly, because it just proves they have nothing intelligent to contribute.

I disagree with your first 2 paragraphs - The title of the thread itself is going to attract people who are not football fans to explain why everyone is not celebrating - so your point is moot
