Why was there so little public celebration after England's win?

I expected joy on the streets after England's win. But no?

Why would there be? It’s not an important match

Well, they haven't won the tournament yet. They are only through to the next round. All this celebrating seems a bit premature.

There usually is more a feeling of collective excitement when England get to this stage. Where are all the little car flags?!

All the "it's just a bunch of men running around after a ball" is really old. If you can't understand why people follow and enjoy football or the World Cup then go and do some reading. It's fine to not enjoy it yourself, but sneering at others is boring.

Can you imagine people putting the flags on their cars.

This place would be alive with threads saying “my neighbour has two England flags on their car. AIBU to think they are racist flag shaggers?”

It’s a valid question when you look at the scenes from Norway - 100,000 people on the street and the Crown Prince out there doing the celebration with them.

If it helps, there were lots of very happy students at school today.
No time really to celebrate, as most people who watched it, had to get off to work.
i had to be at work for 8am, so it’s been a tiring day. But the main thing is we are happy. Tired, but happy.

Because it's a final 16 match. It's been coming home since 96 and no one cares.

I agree Op. Can’t abide football but there was SOOOO much hype before the match. Endless debates about kids being off school, fuss over possible time changes and off course no one expected the win.
Then after a bit of a mention on spirts news theres not been a lot today .
