Just came across these. Wtf? Glasses secretly recording people?? Why is something like this even invented?

I think they should be illegal!

I think they should be illegal!

Me too. Surely we should know if we're being filmed?

The scary thing is that they just look like designer glasses.

I think they can search for image matches too so someone can look at you and then find out everything about you (or your child)

Iloveeverycat · 04/07/2026 19:34

There was just an advert on ITV for them.

No way! The Manosphere will love these.

With a big flashing light on the frame.

JoyousOpalLemur · 04/07/2026 19:37

Google did these a few years ago and then had to abandon them because women were being recorded all the time and then the videos were being sold to porn sites.

The Meta ones have the same safeguarding failures.

I would advise anyone to boycott Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram.

You mean the tiny one that could easily be covered up?

We all know why! So people can secretly film other people. I agree they should be illegal

Boycotted years ago. I feel like never bloody leaving the house.

Such a techbro thing to invent. For all the creepy incels.

LattePatty · 04/07/2026 19:53

I can’t think of a legitimate use for them

I can guarantee the majority of people buying them are men.

They've been around for quite a while now, anyone who wants them will already have them

kaylot · 04/07/2026 19:55

Anyone can film you on their phone in a public place

They can but doing it via smart glasses is a totally different thing

My cousin has negligible eyesight. She uses them to help guide her as she has recently lost her guide dog & she's been building up her confidence in only having a cane again. They can also be used to read text to her.

Guidanceplease20 · 04/07/2026 19:57

I came across them when I failed to find new lenses in Specsavers, so popped into some others in town. I wondered why on earth raybans were so fashionable again it was necessary to have 3 whole columns on display in one shop......then I saw the name Meta, and got curious.....couldnt believe it! This was a good 12 months ago, now.

They are dreadful.

I know, but it's more obvious they are doing it. These glasses are covert ..so we're being filmed without our knowledge

As a blind person these have completely changed my life! And my world so much more accessible. So I hope they aren’t made illegal.

That's a brilliant use for them. However, I think they'll be used for nefarious reasons by certain people

Lots of dog walkers use them as a hands-free way of recording the dogs in their care, and to help them if there's a fight or altercation with another dog.

You're constantly being recorded and filmed without your knowledge anyway.

I hope they are made legal only to people with a legitimate cause to use them. Like people with visual impairments.
