Very interesting, two women filmed without their knowledge, both said they didn’t realise that they were being filmed, both said they couldn’t see the light.

Exactly. It's the covert way they're being used that is the issue . At least with phones, for the most part we'd be aware we were being filmed.

If I didn't know him though, and saw he had a camera in his glasses I probably would think pervert. Or at least hold it in my mind as a possibility to the extent I don't think Id employ them to clean my windows. I live in a ground floor flat anyway, so my bedroom and bathroom and living are all ground floor. Not that I would be walking around starkers when the window cleaners there. But I really would not like the thought of someone potentially filming into my house. Even my living room/kitchen TBH.
And the question then goes, if he isn't a pervert why did he want the glasses. It is at the very least voyeuristic even if there's no intention to see anyone naked etc

And for him, as for everyone, most people he meets don't know him and his family very well. So they will be making judgements accordingly.

He’s just a guy who loves tech and gadgets.
He works with his 20yo daughter most of the time, they often do little TikTok videos as they work. They’ve asked permission from us before if they can film so assume they do for all customers.

I don't know him!!!
You do, you know his whole family. That's great.
People that don't know someone WILL be creeped out by someone wearing glasses designed to film covertly. If he is asking permission before filming then great but I don't see the point then of the glasses. If he is just wearing the glasses without turning them on most of the time, people that don't know what a great guy he is won't know that. Besides which, even when the wearer thinks they aren't filming they are sometimes filming and uploading the footage. There was a scandal around that.

I'm another with a blind friend who finds them really useful, so if you're going to petition against them, please ensure it includes an exemption for people with a CVI or similar.

As for national security- I work in a defence related role. Cameras on laptops are disabled, and any phones, smart jewellery etc - anything that can record or use Bluetooth is banned from the office. We have lockers to put them in outside the office. So smartglasses are covered by that policy. Security breaches around this sort of thing are taken massively seriously.

(And yes, it is a pain if the GP or someone wants to call you.)

I think for blind people it's very different. But to be honest, there are lots of behaviours that people accept from someone obviously blind they wouldn't accept from someone sighted. I know that's a bit of a sticky issue since most blind people don't want to be singled out, or treated as different most of the time. Being able to go about their day independently is usually preferred to deliberately signalling they are blind etc.

But I would still prefer it if it was treated the same way dogs are. If someone doesn't think dogs should be allowed in a fancy shop the response isn't "there's no way you can ban dogs. What about guide dogs. Guess we'll just have to let all dogs be absolutely everywhere all the time or it's making life harder for the visually impaired". Instead, you can ban dogs and have an exemption for those with guide dogs.

I know you don’t! You said the question was if he wasn’t a pervert why would he want the glasses and I gave you the answer.

I only gave the example to point out to the OP that the camera on the glasses was really obvious to me. I’d know straight away if someone was wearing them despite only ever seeing them online previously.

@PenelopeJoanSterling
Mobile phones are visible and people have been challenged and charged for using them inappropriately to film others, e.g. up upskirting. These are discrete so more dangerous. Pedos for example can film children freely without anybody noticing. If they did it with a phone, they would be challenged.
I agree with PP that they should be available only to people with sight impairment.
