Even if it did end up triggering a by-election Farage would probably win. Unless every party other than the Tories stood their cadidates down. Which Farage couldn't complain about.

Reporting suggests that Farage himself feels he may not win in a by election. Restore could pull enough support to sink him. This isn't America where you can become POTUS without being subject to direct democracy.

Is GBeebies not working out for him any more?

Thing with Gbeebies is that the advertising revenue will obviously go to the owners.
If Farage is operating the channel he gets the 💰

Less a tax, more a donation ...

Isn't the crackdown on second jobs coming too ?

The progress on that has been 'glacial'

I hadn't factored Restore into my thinking!😁 Fingers crossed then that he gets suspended for at least 10 days. I feel sure 10% of the Clacton electorate would come up with the goods needed to trigger a by-election.

It's hard to seem him risking running again. He tried 8 times before this and arguably his popularity was higher.

Much more lucrative dignified to refuse to stand claiming all sorts of nonsense about "they'd never let me win, look how they stitched us up at Makerfield, deep state, the blob" and so on.

DuncinToffee · 03/07/2026 17:55

He might not fancy being an MP anymore with all the scrutiny it brings.

Job doesn't pay enough for that nonsense.

The most influential people in US politics haven't been anywhere near a ballot box. Thiel., Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg and so on.

Can I add my welcome as well, @5128gap, I always enjoy reading your posts.

"The media distort what I say"

He is such a victim.

When will we know the outcome of the investigation into the £5m?

I suspect it will be before the summer recess, so a couple of weeks. Maybe next?

I’m sure he fancies being PM but not as an MP.
Not being held directly accountable in Parliament would suit his needs, US style.

He isn't prepared to put the work in needed to be PM.

In fact - and I'm pleased I typed this, as thinking it through does take some of the taste away - it must be a real gut-punch to Farage to see Burnham waltz in as PM having done even less than Farage has in Clacton. (Obviously Farage will regard being mayor of Manchester as a non job).

The scrutiny was the big risk right from the outset and which he'd decided wouldn't apply to him

It was always going to catch up with one way or another with all his shady financial dealings

Perhaps the only surprising thing is that it has taken this long

When cult leaders start to crumble, it takes a while for the faithful to realise that their idol genuinely has feet of clay. I can see them getting quite vicious, especially since they've paid cold hard cash to follow him.

I've been practising my Gen Alpha language on DD1 - by suggesting that we should get more cats so we can do catmaxxing. I also suggested we should get all our clothes and homeware at a large chain of discount stores in order to be TKMaxxing, but when I suggested she should simultaneously date three gentlemen by the name of Maximilian, she chased me out of the kitchen.

Thank you so much. And I yours, and those of everyone on this thread. So happy to have stumbled across the place where the MNetters who's posts most inspire me and restore my faith in human nature hang out.
I shall be giving myself a stiff neck with all the enthusiastic nodding I'll be doing, and might have to pop back to a Reform thread to give it a rest.😊

Honestly, you're a natural fit here.

Me too
surprised it took the king of the grifters this long to figure out he would make even more £££ with operating his own channel plus no pesky questions win win.

Still funny after all the complaints about it

It is a big reschedule!

BIWI · 03/07/2026 20:52

Much more sensible - for us in the UK at least. But all those pubs that are now going to stay open until 5am Grin

Needs a quick rescinding of the permission!
