I’ve been going Bury, bury, berry in my head. The last two sound the same in my accent but the first one rhymes with curry?

BIossomtoes · 30/06/2026 21:09

Sorry, I say berry. Shall I leave now? I’m not keen on musicals but Mr B loves them.

InMySpareTime · 30/06/2026 21:14

I pronounce Bury without vowels, Brrry.

We should get them together and send them off alone while we go and see something sensible @dontcallmelen.

We really should.

I'm going to see the Marilyn Monroe exhibition next week. I was going to see it last week but it was too hot to go into town. I did see Pride a couple of weeks ago which was amazing, absolutely brilliant. I hope they extend the run as it's sold out.

Here's some sunny cat tax. Thanks for the new thread @DuncinToffee

I saw Pride in the couple of weeks when it premiered in Cardiff. Bloody brilliant.

cardibach · 30/06/2026 21:41

Liking musicals isn’t compulsory, but I find the idea of not liking any of them odd. There’s so much variety it feels a bit akin to saying you don’t like films or books.

Would gladly join in. My parents were in a musical society and we did musicals at school as well.

Saw Tommy! , Oliver. The magic flute, La boheme, ROH - latter two musicals in their day.

Bernstein - all of them

Rogers and Hammerstein My favourite film is the sound of music.

eta Who doesn't like Gilbert and Sullivan

TemperanceWest · 30/06/2026 21:51

Also not a big fan of musicals!

Thanks for the new thread @DuncinToffee

Raven08 · 30/06/2026 21:59

I'm fond of musicals and theatre generally.
Saw Miss Saigon in April and it was incredible.
Off to see dds friend in a show next week.
I won't watch anything by ALW due to his misogyny and voting record in the HofL (and I find his stuff quite shit).
Can't bear G&S.
I've bought dd tickets to see Hadestown for her 18th.
If any of you get chance to see any of the Goes wrong shows I would really recommend them 👌

We’ll have to set up a sub thread.
I like Singing in the Rain, The Sound of Music and a couple of others but that’s about it.

Piggywaspushed · 30/06/2026 22:11

I love The Sound of Music and Singin in the Rain. Cabaret is great. Paddington was a proper musical with talking , dancing and songs. I do not like sung all the way through musicals or most loud modern ones. I acted in lots of Rodgers and Hammerstein as a child because my mum loved theatre and was a really good actress and singer. Which I kind of forgot until just now.

There are some great sung through musicals. I don’t like Juke Box Musicals. Lazy and trite.
Edit: Cabaret is, indeed great. I’ve been in it twice…

Hadestown is great. Really enjoyed it.

To quote Jefferson in Hamilton ‘can we get back to politics?’ 🤣 (for a minute anyway)
The anti Burnham threads are driving me mad. I don’t even like the guy, I hate the manoeuvring he’s done and I don’t think he’ll be a good PM but they are so ridiculous I keep having to defend him. It’s intolerable.

Piggywaspushed · 30/06/2026 22:26

I haven't read any but it really looks like they are struggling.

Most of those threads have links to the Express 😂

TemperanceWest · 30/06/2026 22:35

It feels as though there are worries in certain quarters that Burnham might just have a chance of turning things around 🤖

There is not much that they can find to throw at him right now, but I am sure the JCBs are out there, digging away, hoping to find dirt.

I came across a very strange musical a couple of years ago about John Maynard Keynes and the Treaty of Versailles. I don’t know if it’s ever been staged, it was a radio version and I really enjoyed it. BBC Sounds.

Raven08 · 30/06/2026 23:12

I say "burry"
Is that wrong? 😬

@placemats re Superstar - it’s exhibit A in why I hate Lloyd Webber. Not because it’s bad. Because it’s absolute genius and the fact he can write like that then produces dross like Cats and Aspects Love shows he’s a bloody cynical money chaser and not a real artist. enjoy. I’m hoping to go to the tour despite having seen Superstar many, many times, including with Tim Minchin as Judas (bloody fab).
Jealous of the Hockney.
Cat tax of Perdy sitting on a small piece of paper. Comfy.

Maybe my favourite ever Perdy pic 😍
