No scrutiny Nigel.

Is there a point to this?

It’s a communist country now. 🤦‍♀️

Is he going to get on to two tier policing and racism against white people next?

Cheguevarahamster · 07/07/2026 14:27

Resigning - he's forcing a by election. He's doing this to avoid scrutiny.

BIossomtoes · 07/07/2026 14:28

How does it help? If he’s reelected the standards commission will still scrutinise him.

No, no!

It will be a “people versus the establishment” byelection, he says.

He is a fucking slippery shite.

I heard that this will stop the standards committee due to the rules.

countrygirl99 · 07/07/2026 14:29

DH got excited but I told him it would probably be "I'm going nowhere and you're all big meanies". The only hope is it pisses off people who know enough to trigger more leaks about dodgy finances. Hopefully he'll have pissed off the press enough for them to go gunning for him

If he’s returned as an MP the investigation resumes.

TemperanceWest · 07/07/2026 14:30

What a bastard he is
Waiting even more of the taxpayer's money.

Cheguevarahamster · 07/07/2026 14:30

They need a unity candidate in Clacton. I might even hold my nose and vote Tory if I lived there.

SerendipityJane · 07/07/2026 14:30

Earth to Rupert Lowe ... earth to Rupert Lowe.

Mind you, it's a great excuse for Nige to avoid canvassing in Manchester.

According to the Times political editor it won’t.

Definitely. Give the Tories a clear run. Restore could split Farage's vote.

Yep. Your country needs you 😁

BestIsWest · 07/07/2026 14:33

If Labour have any sense they won’t stand in Clacton. Don’t play his games.

Wouldn't this make his finances for the last 12 months (i.e 2025) open to inspection in addition to his time as an MP ? Double scrutiny ?

Something does not compute.

Notonthestairs · 07/07/2026 14:34

He’s hoping to be voted back in.

The investigation resumes and he waves his by election result as a reason to argue either a) no recall petition necessary or b) if there is a recall petition it’s bullying because he just won the last one.

Also just works to stall the investigation and kicks the can down the road. And hope people get bored.

Does he have a poster of Lloyd George in his office ?

countrygirl99 · 07/07/2026 14:37

Seems I posted too soon. Hopefully the media will smell blood and do a bit more questioning.

Absolutely. They have no chance of winning.

The people versus the establishment.

All very prosaic. Remember the comedy show Citizen Smith?

Also men wear watches and women wear jewellery. Wtaf?

I went to London last week wearing my watch and my engagement ring. It was fine.
