Maybe Farage is on a wind up and is going to whine on about the establishment and reassure the mugs faithful that he is going nowhere?

Either that or he is stepping down for the good of his family, having laid the groundwork in that Sky clip.

placemats · 07/07/2026 12:35

I shall be in the shower at 2pm.

"the best thing to do to deal with child poverty is actually to get their parents into proper, well-paying jobs. That is what’s going to change their lives."

Part of Badenoch's reply on reintroducing the two-child benefit cap. Should she ever get back into leading the Government.

What exactly is a proper well paying job?

Notonthestairs · 07/07/2026 12:42

Farage will make a statement.

But will he take questions?

I'm sure Sky and the Times have a few.

It's incredibly hard work having to deny "accusations" of wrong doing, especially so for Farage.

Jim Pickard

Nigel Farage has just put out a statement on X saying:

"I will make a statement on my future in public life at 2pm."

If it’s to say he’s giving up on it and ‘retiring’ I hope neither he nor anyone else think that means they don’t need to pursue an investigation into law breaking. Has there been anything new on the EU funds investigation?

Good to see some progress with this, though this will just be the preliminary report that informs the enquiry.

Not before time. I hope the recommendations are implemented and some justice afforded.

That is how she is planning to fund defence isn't it, abolishing the cap?

Good question 'what does she mean with proper well paid job'

Did anyone ask her?

I thought he looked quite ill in that clip. Looks like it's all starting to catch up with him. What a shame.

There's rumours that he's going to take a siesta as leader due to "ill health", and that this will further delay the questions in the select committee due in two weeks.

No more questions were allowed. Surprise surprise 🫢

It's the ones that magically appear when you remove financial support.

As for the 2pm "announcement" - that will involve Prince Harry levels of attention seeking and will probably fill up an oppression, victimisation and politics of envy based bingo card rather quickly.

According to the Joseph Rowntree foundation a family of two adults, two children needs a minimum combined income of £74k for a socially acceptable standard of living, ie, cover costs and participate in society. This assumes a baseline housing cost of SH rent, so obviously much higher for those private renting in expensive areas.
Two NMW jobs equal just shy of £50k. So either that needs increasing, or we will continue to have to provide welfare benefit top ups.
I doubt KB will be overly enthused by either of those options.

I think you are probably right. Too much to hope for that he is fucking off permanently.

placemats · 07/07/2026 13:09

If it is taking a break due to ill health, then why was he able to fly to the USA for the 4th July celebrations? Is Farage pulling a sickie?

Cheguevarahamster · 07/07/2026 13:10

I do hope that he fucks off permanently but it will be "Oh woe is me" and "I am more sinned against than sinning". It will be a sabbatical rather than face up to scrutiny.

Marine Le Pen receives a suspended prison sentence and a 100k Euro fine.

She can run in the presidential election next year, but must wear an electronic tag.

It'll be over wide cowboy boots for her then. Rhinestone no doubt.

Soldiered through it.

And obviously interview with Standards Committee will be far more gruelling (which is probably correct).

Do they film Standards Committee hearings for Parliamentary channels?

Yes.

They did with Johnson.

Loved watching that. It was a brilliant assassination.

BIossomtoes · 07/07/2026 13:26

Interesting interview with Tim Montgomery on World at One just now. It was hardly a ringing endorsement of Farage.

DuncinToffee · 07/07/2026 13:28

Other speculation is that he will trigger a Clacton by-election

OP posts:
BIossomtoes · 07/07/2026 13:29

Oh that’s a good idea - the last five by-elections have been such great news for Reform.
