I couldn’t be less interested in football if I really put my back into it, but I’m being dragged in by the corruption and intrigue. Is it possible that the US team will decide not to play Balogun? It would remove any stain on them brought about by Trump’s actions.

Posted this in the world cup thread. It's shocking and well done Mbappé who has the full backing of his country.

Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla wrote on X about Mbappé: “This brute didn’t even learn to write; instead of mother’s milk, he sucked on coconuts, and the most educated thing he heard were chimpanzees. You should’ve shown him the finger, Orlando Gill; I do it in the senate and nothing happens!!!”

Mbappé responded:
"Madame Celeste Amarilla, You are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position. You do not represent Paraguay, that country which has sweated passion and honour throughout the competition. Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup, making way for an incompetent woman who gives the worst possible image of her country. I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and racism across the world."

This was all because Mbappé celebrated next to the Paraguay goalkeeper, Orlando Gill, at full time.

Evenstar it’s as though they can’t help themselves isn’t it lying & twisting the truth comes so naturally filtering down from the grifting leader I presume.

DuncinToffee · 07/07/2026 09:09

There was similar racism from an Paraguayan ex keeper, just awful Angry

Mbappe is class in his response.

He is also refusing to have anything to do with sports betting due to having seen what it does to people.

Today the Labour party have written to Electoral Commission re Farage's 'gifts' from Cottrell in the run-up to the 2024 election

Claiming that Farage broke electoral law not just parliamentary rules

Can;t find a neat link to Anna Turley's long detailed letter atm

Efacsen · 07/07/2026 10:00

Plus clip of Farage losing his temper with the Sky reporter being widely shared on Twitter this morning

And Trump putting his oar in to defend him

Urghh

Urghh

I love the wayhe goes on about his family being harassed and then the Sky newsreader deadpan ‘Sky has not contacted Mr. Farage’s family’.

DuncinToffee · 07/07/2026 10:10

Cottrell calls him daddy, and Farage said he is like a son to him, maybe that was meant by family?

Here is the clip for anyone not on X. He is very nasty and clearly rattled.

The daddy thing is so bizarre.

Farage will be interviewed by the Standards Committee in the next fortnight.
I doubt their report will be finalised before recess.
Of course when they come back from recess in September the conference season kicks off.

Notonthestairs · 07/07/2026 10:19

Am obliged to say the same thing I say every year, conferences should be held during the summer recess to allow for more Parliamentary/committee time. Ridiculous and wasteful system.

I couldn’t agree more.

Farage certainly isn't keeping his powder dry.

Like a lot of what England does, the "reason" (having to get the harvest done first) has rather melted away.

Same as University terms which drive school terms. And because they are based on Christianity, they affect the western world.

"We've always done it that way" is the sage mantra from the establishment as the world falls to pieces around their (largely unaffected) feet.

"We've always done it that way"

Notonthestairs · 07/07/2026 10:46

Summer Recess 17th July to 1st September.
Conference recess 16th September to 11th October.

So they are in for a fortnight and then off again.

There are 9 weeks between the end of Conference recess and Christmas recess (Thursday 17th December).

So between 17th July and the end of the year there are at most 11 weeks of Parliamentary time!

No wonder legislative agendas drag on.

I'm sure some committees keep working but given they are cross party and the parties hold their conferences at different times, their useable work time will be necessarily limited.

I thought he looked quite ill in that clip. Looks like it's all starting to catch up with him. What a shame.

PickAChew · 07/07/2026 12:23

Good to see some progress with this, though this will just be the preliminary report that informs the enquiry.
