It’s going to be a long, old, sweaty, sleepless night isn’t it…

Hands up if you can’t sleep either!! 🙆🏼‍♀️

Seriously though, spend all day exhausted then when I get into bed it’s so bloody hot I literally feel wide awake now.

Contemplated sleeping in my car tonight with the aircon.

This really is no fun is it!! Jealous of anyone who has proper AC installed!

My dog is really struggling :(

Have you tried dipping paws in cold water?

Quacking4it · 25/06/2026 03:06

Also wide awake 3rd night in a row. Have chronic pain too. Exhausted but can't sleep so am eating chocolate and 😕😂

Please cool him/her gently with water on their neck and on the inner creases of their legs and get a fan on them asap. Putting cold flannels on their paw pads will also help. They can get seriously ill very quickly. Put water in the fridge so it's nice and cold for them.
I use the garden hose set to 'mist' on mine. She doesn't like it being done but she likes the benefits after😊

Wide awake, the bedroom is cool but I sleep badly anyway. Opening the loft hatch has been a game changer. All the hot air escapes up into the loft leaving upstairs cool once the windows are opened for the night breeze. Going downstairs to eat some cereal.

UnZenXennial · 25/06/2026 03:32

Sleeping next to DH is like sleeping directly next to a campfire; he's always boiling, so in this heat it's unbearable. I'm in the lounge with all the windows wide open and it's still 31 degrees in here. I did have a fan until half an hour ago when DD1 came and asked me if she could borrow it, as her fan is buried in the mountain of stuff she's brought back from uni with her!

DD2 has just emerged from her bedroom, after finally falling asleep around 2:30, only to roll over and accidentally knock over her fan from her bedside table, fumbling around to pick it up in the dark, before realising the front guard had come off when it fell, and she now has a big cut on her thumb from the fan blades!

DD1 did return the small, handheld fan I'd lent her earlier when she nabbed my big fan, but it's out of charge now - not sure I'll be getting to sleep any time soon!

vodkaredbullgirl · 25/06/2026 05:14

Well it's a cool 24 degree's outside, house says 28.

reluctantbrit · 25/06/2026 05:22

I woke up at 3am and that was it basically. Low level headache and got up to open up downstairs at just before 5am.

Sitting down with a cup of tea and will start the day soon. I may add a nap during my lunchbreak. I thought about the office but reports of London transport was awful yesterday evening so I have another hot day at home.

We contemplated doing that, sleeping in car when we visited friends who don't have ac, they like the heat. We decided to go home the 2nd day because the heat was unbearable. Next time we went we brought a fan as a hostess gift. But we only visit them in cooler weather after that.

Nourishinghandcream · 25/06/2026 06:03

Just got up.
Slept like a log after a very pleasant night, definitely more of a breeze that kept the upstairs quite fresh.
Opened the doorstairs doors this morning and there is a quite brisk breeze now blowing through the house. Kitchen temp is currently 20degrees and Ddogs have got under blankets!😆

Parky04 · 25/06/2026 06:47

Slept downstairs and had a great night's sleep. Just woken up after going to sleep around 22:30! I'm never going back upstairs again!

I used to do this but since having a rat up there I just can't face it even though rat is long gone.

CantStop1 · 25/06/2026 08:20

I wish I had an option of sleeping downstairs but sadly in a 1 bed flat that isn’t possible 😂

I finally dropped off at around 1am but up many times. I feel exhausted again today.

Another long day of sweltering home for me too as they’re still saying essential travel only.

We're sleeping out on the trampoline. It's heaven 🤣

What a brilliant idea! I thought about sleeping in the garden. That's how bad our houses are in the heat!

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 25/06/2026 08:43

I did eventually go to sleep, or pass out. I definitely didn't make the conscious decision as my wordsearch was still half completed on my face.

DS was up much longer than I so I am going to keep him off school today. Been transparent with his teachers.

No dogs anymore sadly but when we did have dogs they were giant Alaskan malamutes. Big hairy beasts. They didn't cope at all in heatwaves and would choose to sleep outside on the concrete or grass when the temperature was like this, with access to their pool and an abundance of buckets full of water. They'd get hosed down regularly through the day and they would get wet towels thrown around for them to lay on.

Good luck to you all and your furry friends today. 🧡

willwashdishes · 25/06/2026 08:43

I put the fan inches away from my face and it did the trick - got 7.5 hours sleep!

Specialneedsnightmare · 25/06/2026 09:49

I didn't get to sleep until gone 3 and I woke up at 8. Feel awful this morning.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 25/06/2026 10:39

Just discovered my hairdryer on a cool setting works much better than my fan does. Grr. Wish I'd have thought of this last night. I can cope with the noise.

Be careful as not sure how safe it is to keep a hairdryer on all night!

Oh I didn't mean all night. I just meant for cooling, even if it was 3am I wouldn't have minded the noise.

Lentilcakes · 25/06/2026 11:40

I slept like a log until 6am!! The heat is knocking me out. Room must’ve been about 30 degrees when I went to bed. Just sheet, fan and window slightly open. I’m sleeping in spare room as can’t bear two in bed atm - dh generates heat.

CantStop1 · 25/06/2026 21:03

I am tired tonight so am hoping I’ll go to sleep quickly if I can cool my room down a bit beforehand.

Thunderstorms are heading across from France so expecting to woken about 1am.

BeretRaspberry · 25/06/2026 21:28

I’ve been sleeping downstairs in the living room, but we do have fixed aircon in here and it’s the best money I ever spent.

dontforgetme · 25/06/2026 22:18

It’s fucking unbearable in my house at the moment. Just 0 air. Plus my neighbours must be off work/school tomorrow as they’re all out in the garden chatting loudly with music on. My poor kids are still awake, this is just hell!!
