I went to the (not air conned) gym 💪 (in fairness it’s an old train shed so pretty cool usually).
I survived, and according to the car it was 25 on the way home. Was still 27 inside, it with open doors and windows that’s now just over 25. Hotter upstairs, but no longer volcanic.

SerendipityJane · 26/06/2026 20:01

Curious how little the word "siesta" appears as a suggestion for dealing with the heat.

ETA: 27.5 C now in Brum. It was 30.5 this time yesterday. Blessed relief

Evenstar · 26/06/2026 20:27

I went to the Staffordshire/Cheshire borders today it was hideously hot 🥵, when I got back to the North West there had been a massive storm and it was 10° cooler than when I left this morning. There’s even a ball at the top of my Galileo thermometer for the first time in days.

BIWI · 26/06/2026 20:31

I went for a swim today. Big mistake. I had to queue to even get into the car park! Staff manning the (very large) car park directing people to where there were spaces. I probably should have just carried on and out and gone home.

Lots of people in the pool, perhaps not surprisingly. Outdoor pool also very busy. But in the two swimming lanes there were 3 people in each one.

I managed 15 minutes (of my usual 50 minutes) before I just had to give up and get out.

Still, it did at least cool me down for a bit.

Same here! 4 balls now…

That's were I live. It's honestly REALLY hot.

Still.

Santon Downham has set the a new provisional June temperature record of 37.3°C according to the Met Office

That's a few miles up the road from me...

Evenstar · 26/06/2026 21:26

@placemats my daughter in Stoke On Trent says it’s still nearly 30° in her bedroom 🤢

countrygirl99 · 26/06/2026 21:41

Went open water swimming this evening. Lake water temp is 25° so not as refreshing as it should be.

"How Soon Is Now" is a generational masterpiece.

Temps have dropped from 33.4 to 31 with a solid breeze taking some heat away.

I played that to DH, many years back, when he insisted he hated The Smiths. It resonated with him.

Though a lot of their songs strike me as incel anthems, these days.

I'm not in Stoke but about 15 miles away. It's 29 upstairs and 27 downstairs.

Even today, with cloud cover for most of the day, ours was 29 degrees, an hour ago. It's a flat roofed dormer and impossible to keep cool.

Sunderland council have been the latest to resci d their climate emergwncy, BTW. I shall have to look for an article for that thread because some of the comments made in the meeting are 🥴😵‍💫🫪🤡

We have gone from red alert to amber alert and it just started raining

TemperanceWest · 26/06/2026 22:29

Only 25 in my living room now. Bliss! No rain yet.

Llttledrummergirls · 26/06/2026 23:54

It's cooler here tonight. There is a breeze in the garden for the first time in days (I'm toying with the idea of sleepingout there). Dds boyfriend works in a kitchen, he's been working early shifts, so starting at 5am and cooking. Hes had about 6hrs sleep in the last 4 days, so hoping tonight brings respite for him.

I think it's the first time in years that it hasn't rained on my birthday. It feels odd.

Happy birthday @Llttledrummergirls Flowers

We had thunder and lightning, and a good downpour, through the night so things are much fresher now, at least for a while. Still forecast to reach 32 here today.

Happy birthday, @Llttledrummergirls !
We had rain here overnight (must have been after I fell asleep and that was bloody 1 am!) but it's still very hot and forecast to reach 31 today. I am so over this. And in addition we are having major gas works in my street. They did stuff round mine yesterday that involved turning off my gas, should have been round to turn it back on last night, did not show up, did not communicate when I called, nothing this morning. I've chased them up and been told they will call within the hour - we shall see. It's getting to the state where I think they should be paying my standing charges for 2 days. It's peanuts, but if they're going to inconvenience me, I can inconvenience them.

placemats · 27/06/2026 09:25

Happy birthday @Littledrummergirls 🎉

Lovely and fresh this morning with a cooler breeze.
