What gets me, as much as anything, is the role of the church in trying to brush it all under the carpet. Nothing new, I know.

It is literally their brief to forgive and forget.

As long as you're not gay. Or Catholic. Or black. Or a socialist.

placemats · 26/06/2026 16:16

In this case the church and those associated with it were witnesses for the prosecution. Exceptional I know. @PickAChew

Dd is graduating this year. Officially the ceremony is in November but all her work is handed in, just waiting for the confirmation of grade.

In other news, yesterday we had mosquito larvae, today they have been joined by a frog.Grin

Tim Stanley has upset Telegraph readers by being mean about the ARC conference. Some of the reader comments are funny.

See that the Telegraph are also carrying a story about the 'scandal' of Burnhams wife appearing on Blind Date about 25 years ago before they were married

It’s actually quite a kind article. I’ll see if I can share it.

Forget Burnham, his ‘Blind Date’ wife is about to become No 10’s real star

With her sharp wit, post-punk style and reality TV grit, Frankie is the perfect antidote to her predecessors’ blandness

ˆI love to see a post-punk

That will scare a few MNers

TemperanceWest · 26/06/2026 17:21

Do a dive into how Burnham awarded a company in which his wife is in very senior management hundreds of millions of public money?

Is one of the comments. I saw it on FB too. The lie is getting a good airing.

There comes a point at which you can't do any more.

Even now, you can't have a simple discussion about Jean Charles de Menezes without the "fact" he was wearing a bulky jacket and vaulted the barriers being shouted over the truth as "proof" of something.

It's a "fact" that's up there with "Vienna" being a #1 hit.

Llttledrummergirls · 26/06/2026 17:25

The thing is we all knew that they would. It doesn't matter who becomes leader, they will find something to throw. Mud sticks, even if not true.

That's why the change of leader was stupid, but what's done is done. Instead of the mud that was thown at Starmer being old news in two years (a pair of glasses or £5m undeclared), anything thrown at the new leader will still be there.

Not really.
And in 29 degree heat.
I could weep.
We went to one last saturday and I actually felt quite ill by the end.

Piggywaspushed · 26/06/2026 17:41

Oh 😞

It certainly makes you realise how hot the accommodation is.

Notonthestairs · 26/06/2026 17:41

It’s 29 in my north facing kitchen right now.

Can you change dates? Are they running them later in the year?

dontcallmelen · 26/06/2026 17:43

Is that true, that the 7million & 12million pounds tax they paid has put them in the top one hundred of amounts people have paid in tax, I can’t get my head around how they aren’t paying more no wonder the rich have become richer & poor become poorer what’s left of my fried braincells

dontcallmelen · 26/06/2026 17:45

Sorry posted to soon I’m truly baffled by it all.

itsgettingweird · 26/06/2026 17:49

Where I live (well next town 2 miles away!) was the hottest recorded place ever in the U.K. on Wednesday.

Ask me is one of my favourite Smiths songs because as a teenager in the 70s, I preferred to spend warm summer days indoors. Never got round to writing letters to a buxum girl in Luxembourg.

Oh and if you're outside tonight please wear socks to avoid mosquito bites and horseflies are rampant in South Cheshire. No idea what to do about the latter but did get bitten once on my leg and had to have antibiotics. A very young 42 at that time.

"How Soon Is Now" is a generational masterpiece.

Temps have dropped from 33.4 to 31 with a solid breeze taking some heat away.

Sorry, can't let a misquoted Smiths lyric go uncorrected!

"Writing frightening verse/To a buck-tooth girl in Luxembourg"

Those were the days... 🇱🇺 🇪🇺

I stand corrected and thanks.

Also oscillate widely.

That's scary.

Respite for the next two weeks. I'm in London from Wednesday until the weekend next week.
