28 degrees in my classroom at 7.45 am.

I could actually weep.

BIossomtoes · 25/06/2026 07:50

I’ve got a bloody dog on my lap, how can he not realise it’s too hot for this?

Similar here. Although I am a bit like Goldilocks in that I came in at 7.20 and roamed the classrooms until I found the coolest one to catch up on some work. It's highly likely I will be asked to cover in The Greenhouse classroom later 🥵. I hope we all get a go in the air conditioned ICT suite at some point. What a state, more care and money lavished on a bunch of computers than on small children (by govt funding, not by SLT, of course).

Morning. For some reason this thread isn't showing on the threads I'm on, this morning.

Most odd. Hopefully I've rectified that, now.

Flippin' heck. That's awful for staff and pupils.

DuncinToffee · 25/06/2026 08:27

Good luck today for those in hot class rooms

TemperanceWest · 25/06/2026 08:33

The schools here are shut @Saucery @Piggywaspushed I feel very sorry for you and the pupils.

placemats · 25/06/2026 08:39

Sounds like a nightmare Saucery and Piggy. I'm grateful that the weather wasn't this hot during the exams for us and the pupils. It's very difficult to concentrate in the heat and tempers do tend to flare up more easily.

Good luck!

Same good wishes from me too

Tomorrow looks a little bit better - lower temps plus rain/thunderstorms for some - and then it's the weekend

Met office says 37 here tomorrow. Beeb says 32. Either way it's going to be bad.

That's why I said 'for some' eg 10 degree temp drop here

Quite an interesting article about the French beginning to accept that schools, hospitals etc may need to have air conditioning Air conditioning creates political divide after France records hottest day https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gyqldl3p5o

A man in black clothes with his back to the camera installs an air conditioning unit at a home in Mericourt, northern France on 19 June 19, 2026. From a window, two men look at him working

Europe heatwave: Air conditioning creates political divide as France records hottest day

France is being forced to re-think its longstanding reservations about air-conditioning as temperatures soar.

Saucey & Piggy really hope it starts to cool down very soon must be really difficult.
cooled down here a bit phone saying 32deg but have a bit of breeze so much more bearable, I suppose with an orderly & drama free transition is better than any sort of frenzied chaos which would have been aided & abetted by the media.

Raven08 · 25/06/2026 10:02

My dds school is closing early today (except for the vulnerable kids)
No word on tomorrow yet.
The kids have been in pe kits

cardibach · 25/06/2026 10:06

My sitting room is at 25.8 and my most treasured possession is my fan. Even the cat has decided it’s ok to sit near it today. I need to nip to the shop because the stupid humidity made my bread mouldy and I want breakfast, but after that I shall stay pretty much fixed to the spot in front of the fan

cardibach · 25/06/2026 10:13

💐 to anyone working in a classroom today. I do not miss that in this weather. Not at all.

BestIsWest · 25/06/2026 10:15

You may not want to leave the shop @cardibach. My local PO/ convenience shop was blissful yesterday with the aircon going.
We went to the cinema which was also blissful, a welcome three hours of cool air. Saw Disclosure Day which was very enjoyable nonsense.

BestIsWest · 25/06/2026 10:16

Yes sympathies with those in schools or anyone having to work through this. I’m just lying on the sofa with the fan going.

Raven08 · 25/06/2026 10:42

I'm trying to decide whether to go for a swim

Sofa, solero and tennis on the tv

It's like the cancellation note for the Psychics meeting being cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
