I’d agree with both of you if there was anyone better. Streeting clearly doesn’t believe he is. It’s too soon for Carns. Jones would be Starmer 2.0.

Starmer presumably would give another contender access to the same information sources but there isn’t one. I can only conclude that nobody else can garner the level of support needed to stand.

It's 10.15pm.

Sitting outside, glass of wine nearly finished and I'm enjoying the half moon and crepuscular hours. I got up at dawn for summer solstice. Bliss.

@BIossomtoes
That's a fairly depressing precis of the situation - but I agree with you.
I know that AB is far more popular than GB was, and that there are 3 years to the next GE, but I still think it doesn't bode well.
I hope I'm wrong.

I also agree. But I think Burnham could be a tiny bit more circumspect in the way he is going about things.

Going back to PMQs, Starmer seemed quite relaxed. He is probably glad to be out of it all.

It is still so hot here. I might watch a bit of the Scotland game in the hope it cools down soon. I currently look a bit like Crystal Tips thanks to the humidity!

I was woken at 5 by DH leaving for his work trip. My bladder decided it needed attention, as often happens in the early hours in hot weather and then DS2 woke up anyway. I'm burning the other end of the candle with a vodka and coke. I sat with the patio doors open, last night but it's turned a little too chilly for that.

Still hotter than hell upstairs, though. The joys of no loft space.

DuncinToffee · 24/06/2026 22:44

I am in the garden waiting for the Scotland game to start.

PickAChew · 24/06/2026 22:45

I have crystal tips x Monica hair, too. I sometimes wash it every day when it's hot as it looks shit, regardless but I feel so much cooler with it wet. I had to go out both this morning and this afternoon, though, so it's just sweaty and frizzy.

Same! It is such a pain. I used to spend a lot of time and energy straightening it, but can no longer be arsed.

Any predictions? I used to have Brazilian neighbours and I still have trauma on their behalf from that infamous game against Germany.

I straighten it for work. Which is very part time. Almost retired.

Not sure about watching the match. I'll just sit outside for another hour and check the feed. Chilling 😎

I think it will be a Brazil win but would love to be wrong.

I watched that Brazil Germany game with my mum who died a week later. Couldn't quite believe what was happening.

rockstarshoes · 24/06/2026 23:03

Al Cain’s hasn’t said he won’t stand yet!
he seems to be the only barrier to Burnham! Maybe he’s hoping for the Defence job?
TBH I think he would be awesome!

LittleBowSheep · 24/06/2026 23:06

I'm watching the Scotland match even though I have zero interest in football. I lived in Scotland for a few years and I've had a soft spot for the country ever since.

PickAChew · 24/06/2026 23:13

I'm going to have to turn in, pending another early start. DH usually does them while I do the owl shift with DS1.

Back neighbour is hanging washing out. I had her down as a lark.

TemperanceWest · 24/06/2026 23:22

It is 27.5 degrees downstairs in my house, even with windows open and fans on. God knows what it is upstairs. 🥵

PickAChew · 24/06/2026 23:28

Love the night sky at this time of year. (almost makes up for it barely getting light in December)

Starmer: An Myghtern yw marow. Re vewo an Myghtern a'n North!

Belated tax. Cat lying in front of the fan, and then not doing much more when we decided to venture outside once it had cooled down.

It’s cooled down round yours? It’s a shade short of 26 in my living room, and that’s noticeably cooler than outside. No breeze. Feels like breathing under water.

Starmer 2.0 but without the baggage and with more honed communicating with the public skills wouldn’t be half bad

It had cooled down from the mid 30's. We've kept all the curtains and blinds drawn during the day, and it's been relatively cooler indoors. There was a bit of a breeze, so we decided to venture out when the garden was entirely in shade.

I did all that. 26 in the living room and it is relatively cooler than outside. It was 35.5 at my gym - a massive old train shed - earlier so all classes tomorrow are cancelled.
There was a breeze earlier but it was blowing direct from Hades. Was akin to standing in front of a blast furnace. No breeze now. And I’m a heat enthusiast usually.

Bullandbear · 25/06/2026 07:30

Various reports that Reeves is trying to cling on to her job, this morning.

TBH, she has been a much worse chancellor than Starmer was PM. I blame her for his demise, in large part.

Same here Cardi. At the moment I have all the windows open to let some air in before it gets really hot. It is 26.5 in my living room already 😫, with fan on and windows open.

Looking forward to the more sensible temperature tomorrow.
