I agree @pointythings

And me. There goes that bloody hive mind again!

We don't know what Burnham is going to do. He isn't even PM yet. If all the Burnham doomsayers are so, so sure of his plans, can they please provide me with some Lottery numbers? All this negative speculation is wearying. Me, I'm going to see what pans out and then form an opinion based on that.

Fair enough, but for context, I was uber negative Starmer, too.

By the time the facts have caught up, the damage has been done.

itsgettingweird · 24/06/2026 16:43

Fecking hot is definitely the technical term for today 🤣

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2026 16:47

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/06/2026 16:40

Well it's apparently been 37 degrees at both Heathrow and Windsor this afternoon and as I'm between them I claim it.
It's fecking hot anyway - whatever the thermometer says.

Oh so it’s the hottest June day ever. Marvellous 🥵

I think we should spare bull n bear their tears and fears.

I absolutely agree with this. We have yet to hear about what his plans are. But some posters seem determined to expect the worst, obviously.

Not so bad here in terms of temperature, 31 degrees in Leeds. But it still feels flipping humid.

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2026 16:51

I have 5+ hours of driving tomorrow. Actually quite looking forward to it.

BIWI · 24/06/2026 16:55

It's 31.5 in our kitchen. I dread to think what a thermometer would say if we had one in our loft bedroom! Thank goodness I managed to buy a fan a couple of days ago.

I drove for two hours this morning. It was blissful with the aircon going full blast.

I suspect that politically we are on different ends of the spectrum - while I don't think Starmer has done nearly as well as he should have, his government has done a great many good things. They haven't shouted about them nearly enough. And all we are being offered from the right is more austerity.

I hope Burnham does bring in some kind of major reform of the council tax system. It's ridiculous that someone living in Chelsea is paying less every year than I am.

Raven08 · 24/06/2026 17:01

29 degrees in my front room 😵‍💫
I would weep, but I can't spare the bodily fluid 🫠
Listening to a podcast and one of the co presenters just compared revolving door of UK PMs since 2016 to the sugababes, which drew a weak smile from me.

Efacsen · 24/06/2026 17:01

36 degrees earlier so have stopped looking because it just makes me feel hotter

Tomorrow's forecast is 37 degrees then it 'plunges' 10 degrees to 27

I agree. I am sure they know where the LiW thread is.

I mean, if your founding principle is that Labour = always bad, then it's pointless having any kind of discussion. Meanwhile on here there's a fairly solid consensus that the Tories we used to have in the John Major days were not bad at all, and that the current lot could really do with going back to that.

^This 💯. I never voted for them then but I could understand why other people did. That isn’t the case now.

dontcallmelen · 24/06/2026 17:13

It’s 36deg here says feels like 41deg, definitely a bit hot I’ve eaten umpteen lolly’s today & feel slightly sick.
@itsgettingweird much love x

I hate to break from the hive mind, but as someone whose birthdays now need the fire brigade to have 3 days advance warning, I'm happy to say that my supplies if "at least <x> can't be any worse than what we have" have been exhausted in the past 10 years.

And I know we can't call people stupid anymore, but it seems a tad unfashionable to speculate that the Starmer->Burnham transition can be any worse that the Boris->Truss changeover that cost every man woman and child a couple of thousand pounds without so much as a by-your-leave.

Think quite a few of us have said we respected Major even if we didn’t agree with the policies I know I have, they had some good one nation intelligent ministers, Boris I believe cleared out the last of them.
the sainted Kemi might be educated but she is fucking stupid combined with being nasty, spiteful & seems to delight in being downright unpleasant.

The irony of her calling Phillipson spiteful! Badenoch has the self-awareness of a wooden spoon.

I can say some quite nice things about Margaret Thatcher. But then I can also think Harold Wilson did a good job as best he could.

There is a school of thought that the 1973 energy crisis has never really been overcome. Much as the problem of slavery in the US has never been overcome.

DuncinToffee · 24/06/2026 17:26

Nothing will happen and she will continue to lie

The UK Statistics Authority has written to Kemi Badenoch today, following our fact check of her inaccurate claim that the total welfare bill is now higher than income tax receipts “for the first time ever”.

And that’s part of the problem, nothing happens she should have been suspended from parliament for continually lying even more so today with the disgusting knives comment she is abhorrent & disgrace to the decent members of the Conservative party.

Her spokesman has already said that she will 'absolutely not' apologise for her PMQs antics.
