A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

As for the idea that this shows reform is on the wane - that’s a tiny bit of a reach…

Well done to the 'Pie' eaters of Makerfield !

I have never felt so disillusioned about the United Kingdom in my life. How, can Andy dressed like a 1980s ban the bomb student can get 54% even in his own 'garden' astonishes me yet alone in a by election.

On the right we now have own version of 'Militant Tendency' led by a man who is many ways just like Derek Hatton. A supreme egotist who does not give a 'Fuck' about the country, just that he stops Nigel Farage because he believes he was wrong. There are huge similarities to the extreme left of the Labour Party in the mid 1980s. Than we have the infighting and internal jealousy of the Conservatives and Reform, who are acting like 'local' rival boozes where locals refuse to drink with each other despite being the same people.

This, result is utterly desperate for the country and soul destroying to think that the best outcome for the country would be for Starmer to stay. The worst Prime Minister I believe the country has ever had. Thus the destruction of the United Kingdom goes on its way without even a brief pause of hope ! Robert Keynon was a very poor candidate for Reform I said that at the start of campaign but deserved to run again because he did well in the 2024 General Election. The Conservative win in Aberdeen south is irreverent, it means sod all !

Pacificwave · 19/06/2026 10:41

Why does the conservative win mean sod all? It was cheering me up.

DancingFerret · 19/06/2026 10:42

The Makerfield result is yet another nail in the coffin of this country. The pundits predicting (hoping) AB will call a GE if he topples KS are living in cloud cuckoo land, IMO. After all we've endured, and still endure, since 2024 it'll be a long time before Labour see the light of day after a GE.

Starmer is still waffling on about his "huge majority", completely ignoring the fact the huge majority in the UK can't wait to see the back of him and his band of dictatorial incompetents.

As a nation we're living in hell in the name of democracy.

The Labour MPs who will be cock a hoop today will soon squash his self delusion.

People have moved on, he’s an electoral liability.

Middlerage · 19/06/2026 10:45

I caught Kemi’s key points after the win, she sounds great and if people could elect a leader and not a party rep she’d be in with a massive chance.

redange · 19/06/2026 10:48

Pacificwave. If the new Conservative MP for Aberdeen South is a good local one that will be a bonus and one less Socialist in the commons I suppose. However, if we are honest the By-Election Win does not bring the desperate need for this government to go any nearer. Kemi Badenoch will no go round telling radio shows ty programs the 'Tories' are back and prepare for Government....

redange · 19/06/2026 10:49

Correction Kemi Badenoch will know be touring all radio stations and TV studios proudly claiming the 'Tories' are back and will win the 2029 General Election !

redange · 19/06/2026 10:55

For the record I am a huge fan of Kemi Badenoch and in an ideal world would make a fabulous Prime Minister. We are not in an ideal World though, we are on a pathway to becoming a third world country. This being the desire of those on the Political left since they won the first battle in the 1970s the mainstream destruction of Grammar Schools. They were repelled by Maggie during the 1984 Miners Strike but like a 'boil' eventually come through and achieve thier aims just some forty years later !

redange · 19/06/2026 10:57

Now be touring tv studios... I spent hours at Uni crossing out miss spelt words and rewriting grammar.

EasternStandard · 19/06/2026 11:02

I listened to Burnham. I’m surprised he leant on the phrase HMO Britain. Re immigration.

Predictably dull. I was accused of being a Daily Mail reporter on that thread this morning. The insults are certainly flowing today. Meanwhile, I'm relishing last night's result and a further collapse of the Labour party, even if I'm not in the UK to enjoy it at the moment.

I hope she does, and I for one will cheer her on! This is a huge win for the Conservatives. Its their first in Scotland for over 50 years, and all because of Kemi.

I refrain from expressing negative opinions of Reform on this thread out of courtesy to you and other posters who like them. I would appreciate it if you could extend the same courtesy.

A Daily Mail reporter? 😂
Thats a new one. Looking forward to adding that to my sticker book of insults.

I can't stop smiling today.

It's proof of concept though. Not so long ago it was almost settled on that people who had stepped away from established parties would not go back and would keep scrambling for a new party to deliver change. And that was achieved in Aberdeen South without the high drama performance and media coverage of Makerfield. So, I think it is a serious good news story for conservatives.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/06/2026 11:48

I'm going to stop reading the other threads. The nonsense some posters are coming out with is just irritating me!

Upstartled · 19/06/2026 12:01

I got sucked in defending an op, who I disagreed with, in saying they were just speaking hypothetically about what they would like and that posters were being antagonistic by suggesting she didn't know how things worked in government. And then the op demonstrated that I was wrong on both counts. So I am back here, with my people.

Haha it is a bit like that. Tg for this thread with you lovely and sane lot.

Stick with your tribe; you know it makes sense - especially on MN.😉

Because if it it the ridiculous gaps between manifestos, upon which we are expected to make informed opinions about our voting intentions, and the asynchronous actions that follow, I'm totally with you.
