A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Nuthatch: You know at heart I am a Conservative and a great fan of Kemi Badenoch. You also know that if we have two factions of the right in different parties that hate each but collectively polling around 45% and the Right Wing Militant Tendency polling around 2-3% we are in danger of a 'Communist' Authoritarian coalition !

Stick with your tribe; you know it makes sense - especially on MN.😉

True. And we get so many lurkers watching on 😬

Well I'm old remember Harold Wilson onwards. Each successive government had strong intelligent prime ministers ditto their cabinets. Be it left or right they hammered out everything. Listening to their backbenchers and respecting their opinions issues. The cabinet was not a revolving door mps sat at that table for years unless they fucked up or went rogue. The tail did not wag the dog. Millipede would be long gone.

My father worked for many years for the liberals, but acknowledged when Labour, conservatives pulled off a good Idea for the economy.

This government has zero respect for mp backbenchers. Scant respect for much of the cabinet. They have 411 mps some immense talent in a few. They're disregarded.

This is not democracy.

Man, that sounds good. I grew up under Thatcher, but in the north east, so my knowledge of politics was primarily through the lens of my family and is was a source of huge mistrust. I wasn't interested in politics under my own steam until Major, in an era of sleaze politics. And well, then all the rest.

I don't think I have ever seen the phrase, 'take the weekend', utilised with such unveiled contempt as I have today.

Another reason to smile today: For Women Scotland have won their THIRD case against the Scottish Ministers, this time to get men out of women’s prisons.

Our government really will have to do the same in England, no further excuses available.

Yes, a great result. I wonder if Scotgov will suck it up or appeal, if they can?

You'd like to think there would come a point when shame, if not common sense, would get them to give it up.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/06/2026 13:39

You would, but this is the Scottish Government, after all.

I agree. I'm old enough to remember back bench MPs actually scrutinising bills put before Parliament rather than just voting on them in the way that they're told to do so.

I'd love for anonymous voting in the House to stop the bullying and deal making which backbench MPs have to suffer so that the Cabinet/Ministers can get their Bills passed, often without sufficient scrutiny.

Just look at the horse trading between Tories and Libdems in the coalition. Utter stupidity that ultimately caused the virtual demise of the Libdems. Nothing but childishness of "I want X" and "you want Y" so I'll agree that if you agree this!

Look at the 3 million excluded from covid support by Rishi's foul-ups. Only a couple of back benchers in the House actually bothered to research the problem and talk in the House about it - that vast majority (incl Labour's Starmer and Reeves) couldn't be bothered to find out the real problems and failed miserably to tackle Rishi's mistakes.

Is this about stuff on the board or Burnham / Starmer? If the former, I've decided that I'm not looking elsewhere. Hiding out here is where I'm at, as I'd just be irritated elsewhere!

Oh yes, I've just been watching sky news with a bunch of the Burnham camp responding to questions around Starmer hanging on in there with the clearly coordinated phrase, he should 'take the weekend'.

I mean, usually it means go home and have a rest not fuck off and then fuck off some more 😅

'Go away and give yourself a good talking to!'

Starmer really does need to back away gracefully so that everybody can move on quickly. It's inevitable; pull the plaster off!

It’s ridiculous isn’t it…it’s clear Starmer isn’t going to resign…it’s exactly the problem with the current top team, it shouldn’t be surprising they’re clinging on as they genuinely have no clue about their mistakes.

Why does the conservative win mean sod all? It was cheering me up.

Labour retaining seat in (normally) Labour stronghold = utterly amazing and stunning victory.

Tories winning a Scottish by election seat for the first time in almost 60 years = unremarkable and nothing to celebrate.

I didn't see the Telegraph article which was claiming something like this, but it's a nonsense really, isn't it?

Half of the posters on the Burnham threads I've stupidly gone on today are delusional about the mistakes Labour have made with the economy. 'But, but, but 14 years of the Tories', totally ignoring the heads of business etc who've clearly stated that Labour's economic policies have caused issues in and of themselves. The country never will recover if the government is making bloody stupid decisions the way it has been.

The cabinet might all resign as with Boris.

I think Keir might still try to cling on and recruit a new cabinet if this happened! A proper band of nobodies. Maybe even Freddo would be in line for a job! 🤣
