@Swanhilde Thanks for the footy reminder. I need to charge my iPad so that I can watch it in bed tonight

martha79 · 11/07/2026 10:31

Glad you feel a bit brighter @MewithME

I'm so bored with the heat - it's cooled down a bit but still saying we'll be between 24-28 for the next couple of weeks.

Woke up at 4am... had a text at 6.30am saying my delivery slot was 7-11, so headed over to the new place. Got a few bits done including getting the electricity back on (new prepayment key had arrived) and then the fridge freezer came about 8.30am. Seeing them manoeuvre that up the stairs has made me think I'm going to have to dismantle some of my furniture to get it in.

Anyway, back home now and heading for a nap.

Good morning all from the med!

Sending hugs to all those having a tricky day.

South of France today tbough I’m currently on a quiet deck, having a coffee by the pool which is quiet as a lot of people ( including DH & DD) are ashore. The temperature is around 30 but I have a sea breeze, a pool and air conditioning so it’s much more manageable than at home. I was so unwell in the last heat wave whereas here I’m doing well. Lots of time resting still needed and in cabin more than usual but I’m relaxing and mostly forgetting about the medical stuff I’m likely to face when I get home. I’m rather proud of myself for battling through the anxiety I had about coping. I even managed to scoot into Cadiz and have a coffee with DH.

My exciting news is that I’ve managed a dip in the pool for the first time since our last cruise 2 years ago think so that was rather lovely. Managed it yesterday and again today plus a spell in a hot tub which helped the sore neck/shoulder I’ve battled with lately. I’m the lady bobbing about wirh a massive smile on her face!

Sending a sea breeze to all those who need it. I live down south and the temp is literally the same as the med this week which seems crazy. My MIL is sending me pics of my dog wearing her cool pack and eating a spoonful of ice cream 😂 She is being very spoilt 😂

@TodayIsatrickyone that sounds like a fabulous holiday! You would be in a state if you'd stayed home, I'm sure.

Speaking of deliveries I have a bulky delivery which is said to be at our local DPD depot. Should have been delivered days ago. It's been showing as there for three days. Yesterday it said "returned at consignor's request". Today it is still showing as at the depot! There is no phone number for the local depot so I've had to email the main office in Birmingham. They replied very quickly (in Dutch!) and will get back to me within 5 days. I have emailed the chap who sent the delivery, as only he can change the delivery details so I can just go and collect it. SO annoying.

It's too hot for this nonsense. Why don't things just work?

martha79 · 11/07/2026 16:04

Ah that sounds lovely @TodayIsatrickyone - so glad you're having a good time.

Sorry you're having delivery hassles @TeaAndStrumpets , hope you can get hold of it - touch wood everything I've done with new house deliveries/ moving services so far has been surprisingly efficient.

I've spent a fortune this afternoon, ordered my new bed, mattress and bedside tables (my lovely dad did give me some money towards this). Other than that I've been lying in bed feeling very queasy - I think it's a mixture of the heat, not eating very well (enough but just bits and pieces of things, supermarket sandwich was probably a bad idea) and the waking up early/ activity this morning.

Oh I think it's the heat...I'm sure it's what made me feel wobbly in the shower today. I've become used to it mentally but I don't think my body got the memo! My feet look hideously puffy still but I've had a restful day. There's a lovely breeze too.

How exciting to get nice things for your new home! You will soon feel settled.

It's an exhausting time moving house @martha79 . Never mind in this heat. Do be careful.

Hope you will be really happy in your new home x

There was a bbc article a few days ago I read why women suffer more in a heatwave

This is it https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gyp1knzzxo

Also, I think it’s absolutely awful about Ann Widdecombe. The police now think she was murdered 24 hours before she was found which doesn’t bear thinking about. Apparently she was supposed to turn up to a show on Channel 5 but couldn’t be contacted

Thanks that's a very interesting article. I rarely sweat but it's been awful the last few weeks.

As to Ann Widdecombe that is just horrific, poor woman I hope she had no awareness at the end. It must strike fear into the heart of any woman living alone, to imagine not being safe in your own home. The area looked so peaceful, too.

I don’t do well in heat and humidity but end of last month and this heatwave have been unbearable for me

Yes, I didn’t really know her politics but I’m just hoping it was quick and she didn’t suffer. Must have happened very quick because she was due on a Channel 5 daytime show on Wednesday and they couldn’t get an answer and now we know from the police, they say 12.30pm Wednesday is when it happened. Yes, the news mentioned her parents were from the area so when she retired or even before, she bought the house because of its location and how isolated it was

CoffeeBeansGalore · 11/07/2026 17:52

@MewithME I'm ok thanks.
Dull with light rain showers. Bit sticky but the evaporative cooler is doing a grand job. 2 happy ddogs.
Dd2 & dgc were round for a few hours this afternoon which was lovely. Lots of giggles & nice cold milk shakes.

Glad the ice machine is working well 😊

CoffeeBeansGalore · 11/07/2026 17:57

@TodayIsatrickyone glad the holiday is going well. I'm sure it'll do you the world of good.
@martha79 don't overdo it. Moving is hard work & I hope you get plenty of help.

And so shocking about Ann Widdecombe. Really hope they get the brute that did this heinous crime.

Oioiqueen · 11/07/2026 21:21

@MewithME with have family dotted around the other UK countries and they are sharing pictures of doing gardening in their mid 20's heat. I honestly just feel like a beached whale half the time.

MewithME · 11/07/2026 21:29

@Oioiqueen my friend has been to the North East coast today. He's just sent a selfie of him wearing a flipping coat....and a hoodie!

I'm barely wearing clothes...been flopping around in my nightie since about 5pm!

Yeah, I woke up absolutely boiling and my cat has really been suffering. He loves stuff like my heated blanket, not this weather!

martha79 · Yesterday 09:37

Morning all, thanks for the reminders to rest - decided last night that I'd have a quiet day today despite everything that needs doing. My body has decided to further nudge me with some hormonal stuff (I don't get actual periods - been on the mini pill for years - but there is something going on as it does occasionally). Am back in bed after some breakfast.

Oioiqueen · Yesterday 09:49

@MewithME the contrast between north and south at the moment is insane. The next couple of days look cooler for us but still 28/29, I'd happily take 20 now.

Oioiqueen · Yesterday 09:52

@martha79 hope your body adjusts for you somewhat, I hate when it tries to surprise you out of your normal. Chemo has done odd things with mine, I haven't had a period since March but this month I've had ovulation symptoms. I'm expecting to not be leaving the house if it arrives, it's going to be horrendous.

Oh, sympathies - without the pill I get ovulation pain and the worst periods. A few years ago I tried stopping it for a while, but was spending entire days in bed with the pain.
