I live opposite a motorbike showroom, and we get a lot of revving and throbbing at weekends, but I'm more or less used to it now, and they are mostly considerate. At least the other neighbours are nice and quiet, the noisiest things is the mowing, and the chickens over the back announcing they have laid an egg.

Re swimming pools, I have long hankered after my own pool, and found what I thought was the perfect solution. A positive flow pool in the garage! They are quite small, and have a current, so you can swim on the spot, and some can also be used as a jacuzzi.

DH vetoed the idea due to unreasonable things like cost, feasibility of water supply, drainage and the fact he wants to keep his car in the garage. But I think all of those objections are far outweighed by having my own secret health spa hidden in the garage. I love DH, but his practical engineers brain is frustrating to my flights of fancy.

Tiredandwired2 · 20/06/2026 12:44

@bedfrog Thank you. Cool here today so feeling very grateful for that whilst it lasts. Hope you enjoy the barbecue

@danglethedingle that pool sounds interesting. Hopefully you can convince DH

I'm now betting on cat. Just to continue this indelicate discussion, does anyone remember when dog poo in the street often looked white? Must be to do with diet.
Shocked at your DH @danglethedingle there's an AIBU right there! He should be out there welding up a deluxe swimming pool for you this very minute. Has the man no ingenuity.

TeaAndStrumpets · 20/06/2026 13:19

So incensed by @danglethedingle's suffering I forgot to put in my tea order. Peppermint tea please @bedfrog . Thanks for asking about DGS I just spoke to him and he told me how many times he'd had blood taken so I asked him if his arm was empty yet and he very seriously informed me he was OK. Must play him some Hancock's Half Hour 🙂
Hope you feel a bit better soon @Tiredandwired2

martha79 · 20/06/2026 13:30

Do let us know if you solve the poo mystery @MewithME

I think your DH's objections are nonsense @danglethedingle - get that pool in there!

I popped out to try the walk to the summer fair, but it's too hot. Have come home and made an iced coffee - a friend gave me her old capsule coffee machine a few months back and I've found a decaf I really like.

Spoke to a particularly arsey letting agent earlier and it's really ramped up my stress about house hunting. Maybe a nap will help my bad mood.

Tiredandwired2 · 20/06/2026 13:47

@TeaAndStrumpets thanks. I'm very moody and trying to snap out of it. Trying to reframe it as how lucky I am not to have felt this crushing fatigue for months.

Interested about the poo mystery too. Decking is an unusual place!

Oh bless him that’s quite funny he took it literally 😊

@danglethedingle liking the garage pool idea!! Genius!

Aw sorry to hear about the crushing fatigue @Tiredandwired2 when you’ve no option but to give in snd just ride the wave. It’s the worst. I hope tomorrow is easier.

Hope the nap helps @martha79 totally understandable that arsey agents ramp up Thé stress. Try and find something calming to listen to maybe if you can.

@bedfrog Sorry I missed the tea run too! Peppermint for me please ( I’ve run out in real life and am the plain decaf!) Woods sounds a nice trip out.

I’ve got the nearby dog field in the forest on my list of goals for the next two weeks if it’s not too hot but have more appointments each week so not sure it will happen. A shame as be good for the dog if she can’t get out much in the heat next week as it’s shady and cool there and benches for me!

MewithME · 20/06/2026 10:32

Haha yes I did start having Fargo thoughts 😂 If it were closer I may have given 101 a call. Could have been any one of hundreds of houses really. Very bizarre!

I have definitely used all my knacker points ... @TeaAndStrumpets !

Oh and I must have been evil in a past life because I just had a moment out on my deck while the kettle boiled and found ... A fecking turd under my patio table! A fecking turd on the decking!

Could only be a cat surely...? Unbelievable.

I would say large, audacious cat. We had to cat-proof our entire garden with a huge catio wire fence surround many years ago - at eye-watering expense - to keep the neighbours bastard cats out, because they were attacking our pets (including my own two lovely female cats and the pond frogs), pooing everywhere 😰 and destroying plants in the process.

I was getting paranoid about gardening because I'm on immune-suppressant drugs and the cat poo was everywhere!

The neighbour had completely concreted his garden, had no litter trays apparently, but had/has two bengal-cross cats. So, in his words, 'where do expect them to go?' Cheeky sod.

DS and DiL are plagued by foxes at the moment so DP has just been round to put up some new fencing and mesh topping. Interestingly, they wee everywhere (and smells) but they don't drop sizeable poos. Not like the neighbours' bastard cats.

MewithME · 20/06/2026 20:35

Yes @TheAutumnCrow I do think it was a cat. I hope it won't be a habit. I'll put some lemon oil down and hope to put it off. What plants do they hate, I can't remember apart from lavender which I love but I am useless at growing in pots.

White poo @TeaAndStrumpets .,.yes! Definitely was a thing but I think it was more that people didn't pick up back then? Where I grew up there were often strays just wandering around and sometimes a few together especially if a bitch was in heat. God I feel ancient with memories like that. Another world completely.

I am absolutely exhausted tonight. We had a little plod in the countryside with ds. Had to collect some bits from the shop so I have definitely used too many knacker points!

How is dgs this evening @TeaAndStrumpets ?

How true come to think of it dogs used to be out unaccompanied which you don't really see now.

Thanks for asking, DGS has his headphones plugged into his laptop and is making music so happy at the moment. His poor Mum spent the first two nights sleeping (or trying to) on a standard hospital chair, last night they found her one that reclines so that's an improvement. There was talk of him going home today but his blood tests are fluctuating so he's being kept in tonight. He's been learning to inject himself. Life has changed in a few short days!

MewithME · 20/06/2026 22:23

That's such a lot for him to process. When I first left home, my flatmate became very ill quite quickly and it turned out to be type 1 diabetes. It was a big adjustment. He was a huge clubber and drinker and rec drug user....so suddenly he felt his social life was over. I'm sure your DGS is more sensible. We genX ones were terrible for the partying. My son's age group seem way more sensible.

I'm sure your DGS will be ok v soon. His poor Mum. Hoping they can get home swiftly.

I have ordered an evaporating fan thing @CoffeeBeansGalore.

I have a couple of hand-held ones which are v useful but no good at night with ice in. They leak easily.

I looked at Aircon and they're all so heavy and have to trail pipes out the window which won't really work in my teeny house. So fan cooler unit thing it is. I'll see what it's like. I just clicked in the end. Tons needed ice packs which seem a faff too because my freezer isn't v big...

Life in 2026 is hard work innit?

Right sorry for the moaning. I'm sick of myself now 🙈

That sounds pretty similar. My GP didn't mention about post sepsis syndrome but I had looked it up and think that's what mine is too as it started then.

After having sepsis I started having these nasty bouts of shingles starting straight after so I reckon the lowered immune system fighting the sepsis triggered that and both in turn started the CFS symptoms.

I was also low in iron stores and vitamin D so getting those things better helped a bit, then I got another nasty shingles episode on the face / ear and things have been worse since then, also had covid quite badly at the start of the pandemic before the vaccines came out, so it is a right mixture really.

I also have been diagnosed with PTSD (from the sepsis / ops) and have been offered some CBT for that but it is intense CBT and I am just too tired for that right now so I have put it off for now. they said that is fine I can pick it up whenever I feel up to it.

I'm on a cocktail of meds, fluoxetine, olanzapine, gabapentin, co-codomol, all of which help a bit but not a lot.

I am waiting on an appt with the pain clinic (I have adhesions post surgery also causing pain) and that has just come through in a couple of weeks, so will see what they have to say.

I have been on a course with the local CFS clinic and they took all sorts of people with fatigue so that might be an option for you too, if there is anything like that nearby.

Best of luck with it and I hope things improve for us both. My worst fear is getting sepsis again (I had delirium which was really scary)

Edited

That all sounds weirdly familiar, I had covid at the beginning of the pandemic, before any vaccinations were available, and within 6 months my appendix ruptured, resulting in sepsis. I also had shingles within a year of coming home from hospital, the pharmacist said it was almost certainly linked. Mine was over my eyebrow and up into my hair, itched so badly I wondered if I had headlice! Then this year I had an awful itchy rash on my right forearm which I thought was shingles but the nurse practitioner said it wasn’t. It cleared up on the right arm and flared up on my left forearm, and I still don’t know if it was shingles or a reaction to my statins.

@MewithME glad my info was useful. Ours takes water but you can add a handful of ice cubes as well. Just keep some chilled water in the fridge for it. It will make a difference. Hope it works for you 🤞

TeaAndStrumpets · 21/06/2026 09:25

Morning all!

It feels so much nicer this morning, with some rain later. Our local BBC weather forecast was predicting 36° for Tuesday !! But now saying 32° which is less dreadful. However, Met Office is still saying 35 °😧and they are more reliable. I suppose wait and see .

Father's Day is on hold until next week, DD1 still stuck in hospital, DD2 wrote a card and left it at home in her work bag. She phoned first thing. They are having a lovely beach holiday. DGD was wary of paddling in the sea at first and is now standing knee deep (on her 😄) and letting the waves wash over her. Great fun. I'm looking forward to getting some photos....she has a collection of very fetching sun bonnets.

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

Ive ordered one too to try. I was looking at them last time it was super hot but as DH bought an expensive dyson fan a few years ago 🙄 I didn’t think I could justify it but I think we need all the cooling help we can get!

Hot already this morning. I’m in the garden with my morning cuppa and the dog letting her mooch around before it gets too hot.

Hope those who celebrate Father’s Day have a lovely day. A chilled one here. My MIL is popping in at some point and DD will cook a nice dinner tonight.

No poop today 💩!

It's beautiful outside. If only it would stay this way. Slight cloud, warm but with a breeze.
I will try and relax a bit with a book and cheer the hell up. I'm sick of myself just now.

DS is seeing his Dad for a bit for father's Day. It's nice but also, had taken 15 years for either of them to care!

Hope everyone enjoys their day especially your husbands/ Dads if you have a good one!

I miss my Dad today but I miss him every day to be fair.

Morning all.

Been out this morning for a walk with the dog before it gets too hot. It was just right and it's going to rise to 26 today, so not as bad as Monday and Tuesday which is in the 30s.

There is a local festival on which DD would like to visit. Despite how I feel I am going to try and drag myself there for an hour so we get out of the house for a bit. Then back home to rest.

@TeaAndStrumpets the seaside holiday sounds lovely. So sweet for your DGD to experience the sea. First moments like that are so precious

I have an aircon unit for DDs room and it is extremely heavy but it's so effective. I dread my energy bills though!

Happy summer solstice! Been up since 5am and have been to the outdoor pool where I actually managed a little bit of swimming as well as a lot of just bobbing about. I then fell over on the way out - combination of wobbly legs and an uneven path 😬 Huge slice of carrot cake and a cup of tea helped though.

Back home now and I intend to do very little for the rest of the day. Hope you all have a good one.

I'm not sure modern homes are built for hot weather, they are so very well insulated. Our draughty Victorian house has hardly any insulation so it's expensive to heat in winter, but is usually cool in summer if you keep on top of window/curtain opening throughout the the day.

Having admitted defeat on the pillow washing front due to conserving (my) energy I have decided to kill some moths! We had an outbreak last year and it was quite a saga. I threw loads of woolies out and others were washed, frozen, heated in the oven, you name it. I thought they'd gone but have spotted a few recently. One fluttered off when I picked up a favourite shawl and I was quite despairing. SO everything vulnerable is going into black bin bags and into the back of our estate car during the heatwave. Take that, moths!

If that was all I did today I would be more than content. Happy resting!
