Have you ever hated something that seems very popular with everyone else ?

Just for fun so no sarcasm or nastiness please .
My friend and I went to see a West End musical this week . I was really looking forward to it . Great reviews . Celebrity cameos . Camp and fun . Seemed right up our street .
We both hated it . We were turning to each other with puzzled looks and raised eyebrows (we've known each other forever and have very similar tastes so no words needed) .
The audience seemed off their tits to be honest . Screeching at every unsubtle innuendo . Shouting responses to the actors . It was like a really bad hen do .
We left at the interval .
My point is that everyone else seemed to be having a great time . The staff who opened the doors to allow us to leave at the interval were incredulous . I quote : "Are you not enjoying it ?!"
Well no , we weren't . We thought it was shit .
This is a show that is up for lots of awards and has had so many positive reviews .
Have you ever hated something that everyone else seemed to love ?

I just have to hear the theme tune and I am transported back to dreary depressing Sunday nights with school/work the next morning.

Omg, yes. I'm totally with you on this!

BBQs - people who cook far too much, use too much lighter fluid (so meat tastes of it)
French bulldogs- ugly things
Baby showers

Yes, all these things for me too👍🏻

Jazz music

Yep. Sh!te 😂

Lip fillers
Killer eyebrows
Football
Skintight flesh coloured leggings
Very long nails- how do they wipe their bums properly and deal with babies without scratching them?

Agreed, apart from lip fillers - as a subtle, well placed amount well can be very lovely..... but yes I agree that there are some ridiculous, duck-like overinflated specimens out there 😱
Rather than enhancing, these girls have actually made themselves LESS attractive! Crazy!

Wicked, what was all the hype about?

Custard
Shepherds pie

Agree with Wicked.... can't abide it....altho DD loves it! I adored Wizard of Oz tho growing up.

C'mon though, What's not to like about custard? I even like the skin on top 😂 and Shepherds pie 😋

-Clubbing ( Ok haven't been to a club for 20 years but I hated them back then)
-Tattoos- Just do not find attractive . I have tried and people keep explaining them to me and I just don't like them.
-Pork- Don't like taste or texture.

  • Afternoon teas.
-Beer. -Long fingernails - How on earth do you do anything messy with them?

I'm with you on the clubbing, tattoos and beer!

worcesterpear · 02/06/2026 22:39

I think a lot of what has already been said:
football
mainstream tv programmes (especially nowadays but many older shows don't survive the test of time
drag
clubbing
seafood like mussels, oysters etc
I think people are baically sheep and most of these things people don't naturally like, they just either pretend to or train themselves to as it is the thing to do.

When I was a child I couldn't stand tedious Home Counties shite on the telly like Blue Peter, Magpie, Ask The Family, Junior Showtime, and Billy Smart's Circus. Absolute cack...😄

Bunionbabe · 02/06/2026 22:54

It has to be sex. Everyone else seems to be obsessed with thinking about it, doing it or trying to. I used to tolerate it now can't bear the thought of someone else sticking bits of themselves into my body and bumping around. I feel like I'm being invaded. Then there's the mess. Yuck. I know I'm prob alone on this but I'm too old to care.

Funny you should mention Blue Peter......

When I was a kid I was that kid who's mother wouldnt allow them to watch ITV as everything on there was rubbish apparently (except Coronation street though, as she loved that so it was ok.....). Oh and the only animation was BBC or Disney, nothing else.

I dont think I ever saw an episode of Magpie and although we watched TISWAS that was because we were at my Grandparents every weekend and they were fine with us watching it, followed by the wrestling which was my Grandmothers highlight of the week!

So Blue Peter is something my kids have never watched! Cartoons? No problem, I am now a huge fan of the sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea, and Phineas and Ferb! She was firmly working class who managed to do the Boomer thing of becoming middle class by accident and then was desperate to prove her bona fides!

Nope, team celibate-by-choice here too

ETA also too old to care. When menopause decimated my libido (which wasnt exactly sky high in the first place) it bothered me because I ended up ending my relationship because of it. Ex thought that constant pestering would help.....so I dumped him. But now I see my self remaining cheerfully single for the rest of my life!

JunesDunes · 03/06/2026 00:00

LOTR is worth suffering through for Aragon.

Harry Potter. Yay to JK Rowling but god, HP is dull and badly written. And I know it's harmless fun and has zero effect on my life but Adults who make HP their whole personality.

See also Loungefly back packs. They are not quirky.

Like I said, zero impact on me and really if they are your thing, knock yourself out but bah humbug.

AInightingale · 03/06/2026 00:04

My primary school teacher when I was ten sometimes used to set Blue Peter as homework and you would get grilled in great detail the next day about Marie Antoinette or kidney dialysis or whatever had been the subject of the programme. I think I preferred actual homework tbh.

Edited

Yeah, I only have sex because it's important to my husband (don't worry there is no coercion or sex pestering going on on). If he was content with a bit of cuddling that would suit me just fine.

If I was ever to find myself single, I don't think I could be bothered with another relationship. I just worry that I'd be lonely as I'm not very good at making friends.

Last of the Summer Wine was tedious, twee shite.

Yip unfunny and boring as fuck..hated it with a passion late 70s early 80s..watched it once.

Manchegomango · 03/06/2026 03:49

Leggings
Holidays
Mamma Mia

After mymum died I swear my dad had it on some sort of loop, every visit I was subjected to at least 3 episodes.

Also Holmfirth being a tourist destination. To me it is the place some relatives lived when was a child.

Those relatives all moved to...... Burnley. They seem to like it there.

I know Burnley is not a popular thing you don't like, but it deserves a mention.

It was Titanique ! And I'm sorry to say that we thought it was a steaming pile of 💩. So disappointing .

Thought it was that show when you were describing it. I see the adverts on the tube.

I've been to Burnley once for a Northern soul all niter on our walk back to the station at 8am we genuinely thought the place was derelict .This would have been mid 80s.

beasmithwentworth · 03/06/2026 05:26

Period dramas

cake (the texture 😩)
anything sci fi
quiche

Manchegomango · 03/06/2026 07:32

Xmas and New Year are the only times not being with somebody is an issue. The Festive Period is very much a time for closeness. The rest of the year, I think, is easy to navigate as a singleton.

Reminds me of Rachel from Friends making a shepherd's pie type thing with custard on top!

I don't see New Year's Eve as a couples thing. I'd happily do it on my own or with friends
