Just for fun so no sarcasm or nastiness please .
My friend and I went to see a West End musical this week . I was really looking forward to it . Great reviews . Celebrity cameos . Camp and fun . Seemed right up our street .
We both hated it . We were turning to each other with puzzled looks and raised eyebrows (we've known each other forever and have very similar tastes so no words needed) .
The audience seemed off their tits to be honest . Screeching at every unsubtle innuendo . Shouting responses to the actors . It was like a really bad hen do .
We left at the interval .
My point is that everyone else seemed to be having a great time . The staff who opened the doors to allow us to leave at the interval were incredulous . I quote : "Are you not enjoying it ?!"
Well no , we weren't . We thought it was shit .
This is a show that is up for lots of awards and has had so many positive reviews .
Have you ever hated something that everyone else seemed to love ?

Monty Python was spectacularly unfunny for me. University educated smart arses just indulging themselves, and being indulged by the BBC.

It IS funny! And prescient

Yes, that movie was brilliant. The tv show was too often tedious shite.

You... have read the title of this thread? Right?

If you're gonna be annoyed that people dislike what you like this might not be your safe space 😉

I'm just strongly disagreeing with your point of view, that's all:)
Plus it's perfectly reasonable to be annoyed when someone tells you that your kitchen isn't functional or laid out correctly. They haven't even bloody seen it

Was gonna propose marriage but I disagree with upgrades for long haul. This might prevent us walking not running off into the sunset

I'll go cattle class short haul with you though.

Sorry to disappoint 🤣

Musicals
in particular Grease (the plot is ick - "tell me more did you get very far ...' repulsive even in 1980)
Also in particular Stephen Sondheim (after West Side Story it was samey and boring)

I too dislike musicals, they make me cringe with embarrassment.
'Oliver' for example, all that leaping around the street carrying baskets with things to sell, singing, "Who will buy.....?".

I absolutely loved Python. Still do! I even went to see it on stage at Drury Lane, John Cleese walked around the aisles dressed as a Miss/MrCandy, selling albatross with or without wafers.

Jaffa Cakes.
I just don't like the chocolate and orange flavour combination.
I feel alone in this as I've never met anyone who doesn't like them and people look amazed at work when they're offering the Jaffa Cakes (and at Christmas Chocolate Orange) around and I say that I don't like them.

My sister dosnt like chocolate oranges.

I don't like orange chocolate either - Terry is welcome to keep it as far as I'm concerned.

I also don't like mint chocolate. Was at a friend's birthday once - another friend who used to make decent cakes had made a chocolate biscuit cake covered with a ganache. She handed me a slide while explaining hos she'd made it special (in as much as fancy biscuits and quality chocolate. As I was taking a bite, she say "oh and I used mint chocolate to make it really special". It was 12 years ago, I still get flashbacks and feel traumatized around chocolate biscuit cake.

That's exactly how teenagers speak to one another, and always have. Grease is from 1977, in fact.

Not sure about that. I can remember a girl in my class had a Grease book with the dialogue in it when the film came out, and few of us knew what the expressions meant. We were pretty shocked at it.

What age were you then? I was 11 when Grease was released, and a few years older when I became properly aware of it and watched it. We all spoke like that between ourselves if one of us had met a new girl.

Same! I was the only kid in my class who hadn't seen Grease, which made me sad 😄but I was in primary school at the time (albeit in what is now year 6) and in hindsight we were all way too young for that film. I did have the soundtrack album though, and I loved that.

I saw the film but I think it all went over my head until I read the book!

It was a paperback that came out around the same time as the film, and essentially turned it into a novel using all the dialogue. It must have come from WH Smith because that was the only bookshop in our town.
Edited to say I see it on Ebay if you're keen!

How did the songs appear in it? Were they in italics or something?

At 13 we were all hanging on the words of whichever classmates had already lost their V plates.

It was very Greece

But by the time we were the age that the Greece characters were meant to be we were no longer talking like that

Finally, someone else who has read the book! I remember it starting with Danny feeling Rizzos's breasts. No wonder she hated Sandy.
