Have you ever hated something that seems very popular with everyone else ?

Just for fun so no sarcasm or nastiness please .
My friend and I went to see a West End musical this week . I was really looking forward to it . Great reviews . Celebrity cameos . Camp and fun . Seemed right up our street .
We both hated it . We were turning to each other with puzzled looks and raised eyebrows (we've known each other forever and have very similar tastes so no words needed) .
The audience seemed off their tits to be honest . Screeching at every unsubtle innuendo . Shouting responses to the actors . It was like a really bad hen do .
We left at the interval .
My point is that everyone else seemed to be having a great time . The staff who opened the doors to allow us to leave at the interval were incredulous . I quote : "Are you not enjoying it ?!"
Well no , we weren't . We thought it was shit .
This is a show that is up for lots of awards and has had so many positive reviews .
Have you ever hated something that everyone else seemed to love ?

I’m 55 and I hate gardening. Unfortunately I have three acres of garden which looks like it hasn’t been touched for 11 years, because it hasn’t.

I’d rather stick pins in my eyes than do any gardening job apart from perhaps a bit of light weeding on gravel.

BBQs - people who cook far too much, use too much lighter fluid (so meat tastes of it)
French bulldogs- ugly things
Baby showers

A friend of mine had a garden and hated gardening. She let another friend with no garden but wqho loved gardening, work on it. They shared produce and flowers and the no-garden friend was free to come over and sit wiht a coffee and a book. Could you do this? With 3 acres, you wouldn't even see them!

No, nice idea but I live very rurally in a farming area of Northern Scotland. There would be no takers for such an arrangement, trust me. One of my neighbours ‘lends’ me eight sheep for a few months in the summer to keep the grass down, which is lovely.

Wild garden then! Throw a load of seeds of the plants/flowers that would natural grow locally and enjoy all the pretty leaves/flowers and wildlife with very little intervention.
Sone flowers might be poisonous to sheep though so maybe worth checking that.

Thanks for your interest but I’m not looking for advice on this.

I feel similarly about gardening: just housework done in bad weather conditions! I enjoy other people's gardening, however.

I’m not at all interested in it. I never even look at it.

My idea of a holiday is a good long city break.

You can give yourself a pat on the back. Think of all the benefits you're giving back to mother nature and the local wildlife! 😊

IKEA I just don’t get the hype

@Partickthistle
Me too! And I’ve also done a bit of weeding, just once, on gravel.
Luckily, DH loves gardening so ours looks good.
I like looking at gardens!

I always say my contribution towards the garden is to sit in it and enjoy it. 😅

I do do bits of maintenance, though, and between me and DH who is less gardening averse than me, we manage to keep on top of it.

The colour grey. Why it has been so popular is a mystery to me, it’s the colour of the roads, skies on a miserable day and battleships, absolutely horrid.

And it is the colour of my cat. Who is cute.

JunesDunes · 02/06/2026 14:24

Holidays. I just cant be bothered with all the organising and messing about and the cost. Then I come back and generally dont feel any better than before I went. I'd be happier with some day trips and lazy days at home. I go on them and feign enthusiasm because my family want like them.

JunesDunes · 02/06/2026 14:28

Huge open plan kitchens. Just more surfaces for clutter and I dont want to walk 2 meters to reach the fridge when I'm cooking. Plus they always seem really noisy and echo-y which is a nightmare for my hearing aids.

Words · 02/06/2026 14:44

I dislike gardening too, but love sitting in it and adore being outdoors. I pay someone else to keep on top of it. Always a mystery to me why I really don’t enjoy it.

Yoga. ItalwYs makes me giggle which is frowned upon.

pilates I find depends very much on the instructor. I really enjoyed reformer pilates.

I just have to hear the theme tune and I am transported back to dreary depressing Sunday nights with school/work the next morning.

I don't like giving or receiving friendly hugs and kisses on cheeks.
I also hate handshakes.

OMG yes, social hugging. Abhor it. I'm not a cold person, just not huggy except with people I'm actually close to.

During covid it was a relief to have the obligation temporarily removed by social distancing, although that's not meant to sound insensitive - I'm just saying how it was for me personally.

CoolEmptySilence · 02/06/2026 20:14

Joni Mitchell. All that breathy whooping and screeching. I can't get away fast enough.

Lord of The Rings. I went to see the movie with a new boyfriend. I desperately wanted to walk out after about ten minutes but I really liked him.

I stuck it out but cried with relief walking away from the cinema. I thought I must look like a complete idiot! He did look a bit shocked but we’ve just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary so it was worth the pain of having to sit though the worst film I’ve ever seen.

I was made to feel an idiot when we were touring New Zealand because I asked what LOTR meant on maps! I can't stand Tolkien, my late OH was a great fan long before they became fashionable. My watching record time for any of the films is 15 minutes.
We also had a similar experience at Portmeirion, I asked what all these references to The Prisoner and Number 6 meant, not something I ever watched way back when.
