Have you ever hated something that seems very popular with everyone else ?

Just for fun so no sarcasm or nastiness please .
My friend and I went to see a West End musical this week . I was really looking forward to it . Great reviews . Celebrity cameos . Camp and fun . Seemed right up our street .
We both hated it . We were turning to each other with puzzled looks and raised eyebrows (we've known each other forever and have very similar tastes so no words needed) .
The audience seemed off their tits to be honest . Screeching at every unsubtle innuendo . Shouting responses to the actors . It was like a really bad hen do .
We left at the interval .
My point is that everyone else seemed to be having a great time . The staff who opened the doors to allow us to leave at the interval were incredulous . I quote : "Are you not enjoying it ?!"
Well no , we weren't . We thought it was shit .
This is a show that is up for lots of awards and has had so many positive reviews .
Have you ever hated something that everyone else seemed to love ?

Sticking with the West End Musical theme. Yes. Been there, done it and unfortunately got the tee-shirt. Couldn't possibly name the show, but I will say that it featured pointy hats. It is one of the mainstays, and very very, well, popular. We found it unendurable. The singing sounded extremely uncomfortable and as though it was actually causing pain.

It took 10 years to get my son back into a theatre after that.

Vapes.
All of the Harlan Cobon (sp?) books and tv series.
Latest aesthetics trends - lip filler, Russian doll lashes, etc.
Any ‘specialty’ drink in any coffee shop - esp those with ice, syrup, sprinkles, other such goop - if you don’t like coffee don’t go to a coffee shop.

Good call!

I was really looking forward to reading ‘where the crawdads sing’ after all the rave reviews and recommendations. What a load of rubbish.

It was Titanique ! And I'm sorry to say that we thought it was a steaming pile of 💩. So disappointing .

Oh I saw a little of it on TV one time and thought that looks total rubbish! So I def wasn’t tempted glad to see I was correct.
My one would be football , kicking the ball to someone or kicking the ball away wearing different colour tops seems to generate a lot of interest in people but not me, I don’t mind penalties if they could just have them then I’d maybe watch.

My offering is pulled pork.

I get the rage when I hear Lady in Red by Chris De Burgh. Awful, farty, whiny song.

Crosorbled · 31/05/2026 20:34

Drag queens

I dont think that counts. Noone in real life actually likes them. We're just used to having them shoved down our throats.

Love Actually, Bread, Pulled meat

This thread reminds me of the famous Roy Keane quote. “3 things that are overrated, fireworks, parties and smiling”

Edited

Yes, Love Actually. Went to see it at the cinema when it first came out & came away thinking I could have written a better script. Predictable, smug, unfunny, uninteresting, pathetic pile of shit & one of the reasons I dread Christmas because everyone goes on about how brilliant it is. The only bit worth watching is Rowan Atkinson's brilliant 5 minutes

RosePetals86 · 31/05/2026 20:38

Them ‘seafood boil in the bag’ type restaurants.. It just looks like someone has dumped a bin bag full of waste on the table- my idea of a nightmare!

FeetupTvon · 31/05/2026 20:39

Forgot to add:
baby showers, hen parties abroad, B&M

Gresley · 31/05/2026 20:40

Dogs

TheMadGardener · 31/05/2026 20:41

Music festivals. I love music, but standing in a field with nowhere to sit, surrounded by sweaty people, with rancid portaloos...no thanks. In fact any music gigs where I can't sit down. Glastonbury would be my idea of hell.

Reality TV competitions where ordinary people sing badly/ice skate badly/complain tasks are too hard. I'd rather see experts doing something well. Bake Off is a shining exception to this rule.
