Have you ever hated something that seems very popular with everyone else ?

Just for fun so no sarcasm or nastiness please .
My friend and I went to see a West End musical this week . I was really looking forward to it . Great reviews . Celebrity cameos . Camp and fun . Seemed right up our street .
We both hated it . We were turning to each other with puzzled looks and raised eyebrows (we've known each other forever and have very similar tastes so no words needed) .
The audience seemed off their tits to be honest . Screeching at every unsubtle innuendo . Shouting responses to the actors . It was like a really bad hen do .
We left at the interval .
My point is that everyone else seemed to be having a great time . The staff who opened the doors to allow us to leave at the interval were incredulous . I quote : "Are you not enjoying it ?!"
Well no , we weren't . We thought it was shit .
This is a show that is up for lots of awards and has had so many positive reviews .
Have you ever hated something that everyone else seemed to love ?

Garlic. Rancid stuff
Musicals - torture.

ruethewhirl · 31/05/2026 19:45

Tea and coffee. Absolutely loathe them both, especially tea.
Les Miserables. Apart from some good songs I honestly do not know why people rave about this musical.
Agree with pps re Mrs Brown's Boys, Traitors and football. Also Love Island.
Binge-watching a whole series of TV in one sitting - I have ADHD and get too fidgety after one (or two at a push, if I am really gripped) episodes.
Similarly, watching TV without having anything else to do at the same time (e.g. crafting) - I get bored.
Overly long trousers, I don't know how people don't trip on them and break their necks. Also barrel leg trousers - do they actually suit anyone?
And, after the peopled-out weekend I have had (but also generally as I am an introvert), being with other people every waking moment. 😫

Avocados
Matcha
Camping
Love Island
That God awful PLouise makeup.

outdooryone · 31/05/2026 19:49

The grey everything in houses fashion. It will date as well as a 1970's turquoise bathroom suite.

Garlic. Bluegh.

SUV/faux by faux/fekking huge cars - awful things.

Les Miserables. I could have died of boredom.

Phantom of the opera. Full of Japanese tourists having it explained to them as it went along. Lots of stewards wandering about saying 'no photos'. Would be more useful if they'd learned how to say it in Japanese.

OP. exh and I had pretty much exactly the same experience as you and your friend when watching Lost in Translation together in the cinema. From the reviews etc we thought we would love it, friends saw it first and loved it. We hated it and left after the karaoke bit with the fright wig. I've never seen it all to this day. I swear our mutual hatred of it while everyone else seemed to think it amazing prolonged our marriage by another couple of years.

Littlefairywings · 31/05/2026 19:56

In no particular order:

Matcha
Camping
Holidays
Mrs Brown’s Boys
Balloons - I don’t get why people want a bag of air, even worse if someone has blown it up using their mouth

Imnotdrunkyouare · 31/05/2026 19:57

Dirty dancing
avatar
game of thrones
breaking bad

travelling (hate packing, unpacking, waiting in airports, being in a foreign country)

gardening
brightly coloured blue/purple/pink hair
coke (Pepsi or Coca-Cola)
paddle boarding
baking
exercising

I could go on, turns out I dislike a lot of things that most people like 😜

Phew, I thought we were the only people in the world who loathed it. No story, no characters. I was just waiting for something to happen and the film to get going. My head was itching inside. Fortunately we were at home so simply turned it off.
Another thing I don't like is Woody Allen films, Purple Rose of Cairo is probably even worse than Lost in Translation for me, I did actually leave the cinema that time.

AbzMoz · 31/05/2026 20:02

Vapes.
All of the Harlan Cobon (sp?) books and tv series.
Latest aesthetics trends - lip filler, Russian doll lashes, etc.
Any ‘specialty’ drink in any coffee shop - esp those with ice, syrup, sprinkles, other such goop - if you don’t like coffee don’t go to a coffee shop.

AngelinaFibres · 31/05/2026 20:02

Holland Cooper products.

JJWT · 31/05/2026 20:02

Omg yes. Adele's voice. She sounds like she's holding her nose. I just dont get it. Well, I didn't at the time, I guess all the fuss was a while ago now.

YY to drag queens and pantomime.

I really am not a fan of drag queens either but my nephew is a very successful one so it's a quandary! If I told you his stage name you definitely recognise it, so I will watch him out of love for him but no òthers!

PyongyangKipperbang · 31/05/2026 20:09
