The thing about foiling up the windows is there’s already a crack den in the next block and I don’t want to be seen to be trying to out-Walter-White them with my new meth lab

And another episode in a heatwave (maybe the same one) with fran having her room gradually made smaller by Johnny vegas!

I was going to mention that one too but I couldn't quite think how to describe it...I might have to rewatch it later...it really quite captures the attitude some landlords can be like when it comes to getting as much money as possible 🤣. And in the end Fran flirts with him and he gives in doesn't he? 🤭

I suppose you could maybe put up a sign in the window saying this is not a meth-lab/cannabis farm or similar couldn't you? Walter White doesn't live here? 😂

He does. She promises him sex. ‘Sexy sex!’ And he thinks he’s onto a winner.

I did think of that. Inspired, possibly, by the poor souls in the article upthread who put signs in their windows during a prior heatwave saying ‘don’t buy these flats!’

in the end I put up (with much struggling) a manky old white sheet across the two middle windows. Didn’t want to ruin my last habitat deep corners white sheet. So now I’m just embarrassed about my skanky sheet!

still got two large panes either side and the living room is at 28 degrees pre-warming, so come 2pm it’ll be Tempocalypse and Dave’s Syndrome will be in full effect.

VashtaNerada · 26/06/2026 05:39

Teacher here. Dreading going in today. My classroom’s been getting up to 35 degrees. How on earth children are expected to learn in this heat I don’t know. I’m very perimenopausal and just feel like I’m going to die when it gets like this.

PerhapsaSillyQuestion · 26/06/2026 06:28

@ConstantlyFuriosa We've got manky and our best hanging out there ,😂it doesn't ruin sheets they are just hanging there.

PerhapsaSillyQuestion · 26/06/2026 06:29

For windows you can't trap one in we put up two small nails and attached sheet above window

Delatron · 26/06/2026 06:47

Yes it would certainly help. Shimmying out of the bathroom window sounds a bit risky tho!

It sounds riskier than it is! Sash window that opens on to a flat roof. I shall do a risk assessment..

Gettingbysomehow · 26/06/2026 07:24

My leg ulcer clinic today was 34 degrees. That was nice. I wasnt in my normal one which is air conditioned.
Changing leg bandages all day in that heat with the smell accumulating and me sweating like a pig. I had to keep apologising for the state of me. Hair plastered to my head 😐
Some of thd ulcers had maggots in them so had to get rid of those.
Got home and had to sleep on the sofa again as upstairs too hot. Woke up in the middle of the night to God playing the drums in the sky and lightning flashing.
Now Ive got to do it all again today.
Thank the Lord its Saturday tomorrow and Im off.

henlake7 · 26/06/2026 08:05

oh , poor you @Gettingbysomehow, must be horrible seeing maggots! Nurse here and Ive seen similar, bloody flies get everywhere!😆At least they only eat dead flesh so tend to leave wounds cleaner (and used to be used back in the day by medical professionals).

Really wishing I could put something up on the outside of my windows downstairs but sadly my house opens onto the street and I dont trust it wouldnt be pulled down.
Although Ive never had curtains downstairs anyways, just opaque window film in places and blackout fabric I can velcro to the windows (so what alot of people are using for the heat!). It is def keeping my house manageable...

troppibambini6 · 26/06/2026 08:17

I love hot weather and will happily spend the day going form lounger to pool to bar. But this is absolutely ridiculous. I don’t know if my age is contributing to it but I CANT DO ANOTHER DAY!!!!!
im so bloody hot. Sorry to moan but feel like I can’t in real life, I’ve just been out for coffee in my garden at 7am and it’s already boiling.

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 08:28

I woke up around four am in a ball of sweat 😓
I am done with it all too. It’s just beyond awful

Can’t reach as I’m second floor and might plummet to my demise!

JFDIYOLO · 26/06/2026 08:49

Our local Tesco has binned so much food from fridges and freezers when they could no longer cope in the heat. So much waste, and they wouldn't give it away.

We were chatting with an ambulance medic on her break saying the vast majority of their calls out are due to the heat. Idiots over exerting themselves in the middle of the day, plus elderly people, children, pregnant women.

And there is a special place in hell for people dragging their poor dogs around in it 'because Rover must have his walk...'

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2026 09:26

It’s sad that the supermarkets couldnt try to redistribute the food , but probably laws around it.
The cost of all the food waste will be passed on to us I suppose :(

I imagine once its started defrosting it would be a health and safety issue.

Its going to be the hottest day of the week here so the dog has been walked and Ive done my exercise today. Luckily I dont have anywhere to be so can hide away at home for the rest of the day!
Ironically I didnt even book this week off work, management just gave it to me as I had a week that needed using up!😄

JFDIYOLO · 26/06/2026 10:01

It's ... It's ... COOL ! 😃

Gettingbysomehow · 26/06/2026 10:10

I saw a whole load of people out this morning dragging their dogs around in the boiling sun. Most of them were elderly people with no bloody hats on either and short sleeves just roasting in the sun.
What the hell is wrong with these people.
Leave the poor mutt at home.

I guess that depends where you are.

It's 30C, and building, in the Midlands and East Anglia. It's only 10am

ScaredButUnavoidable · 26/06/2026 10:15

Im in the Midlands and it’s awful.

I just braved the garden to put some washing out and the patio was burning my feet!

Delatron · 26/06/2026 10:25

Main job today is just trying to keep my dog cool and get through the day. I’ve aimed the sprinkler at him and keep popping wet tea towels round his neck.

He’s drinking loads which is a good thing I guess.

if this has lasted any longer I would have had to get in the car and drive to a cooler part of the country!

Roll on tomorrow and I really hope we see some rain.

Zov · 26/06/2026 10:29

It's 10.29am, and it's already 29 degrees C! 😭(And 80% humidity!)

Due to go up to 33C later this afternoon. (But yesterday the predicted afternoon temperature turned out to be 3 degrees higher, so it could be 36C later on this afternoon!) Last night was a tough night to try and sleep. 96% humidity through the night, and a massive thunderstorm overhead, lighting up the bedroom and bashing and banging like crazy!!!

!

Zov · 26/06/2026 10:32

JFDIYOLO · 26/06/2026 10:01

Where are you? In the Shetlands?

Rituelec · 26/06/2026 11:11

Could hit 40 in Norfolk today. Already feel sick
