Does anyone dislike David Attenborough

I’m just wondering if there is anyone who dislikes David Attenborough.

I genuinely think he’s one of the very few people that everyone likes.
No matter how old, what class, what culture etc all I’ve ever heard is how much they love him.

It’s his 100th birthday today and if you google his name you’ll see.

I thought I’d do a poll incase anyone was too afraid of admitting they don’t like him 🤣

I think its obv why he is a treasure

hes still working at 100

hes brought the living world to us - even the most what youd assume boring topic of insects he makes thoroughly gripping

Hes up with technology even at his age

becuase he loved what he was learning he made us love it too

I didn’t mind him, but I don’t like wildlife programmes so I’ve never watched any of them.
He seems decent and has enormous knowledge and personality.

Really he has a massive team of researchers and just turns up for the photo opportunities and to do the voice overs. The people you should be celebrating are the cameramen who spend days waiting for the shot that will make him look like an expert.

Your poll is stupid. The thread is called, does anyone dislike… and the poll is do you like…

So loads of people will press the wrong button!

Agreed.

Watercooler · 08/05/2026 20:43

John finnemore has a good sketch of two people having to spend months trying to spot a snow leopard and the only thing they bond over is their mutual dislike for Attenborough because he just turns up and does the voiceover.

Yes. Which is why his documentaries now always include the camera people, how it was filmed, etc etc.

Many schools had children dress up for his birthday today…
I dunno. I’m not a fan of idolising people.

Would be interesting to know what the women who worked with him have to say.

Would you prefer then idolising andrew tate or any of the vacous people going around…

how lovely to idolise someone who deserves it and has accomplished something interesting and has something amazing to say other than “look we are having a baby” and writing autobiography at 23 which is what all the “celebs” seem to be about - i find it bizarre

but it does seem a bit weird i must admit for the kids - its more our generation

Contrarymary30 · 08/05/2026 20:45

It's not possible to dislike him 😀

chickenss · 08/05/2026 20:45

Millymollymandy4 · 08/05/2026 20:39

You can see in the making of life with earth - all the men in power positions and the women doing the lacky

Yeah, I watched that.

the80sweregreat · 08/05/2026 20:46

Yes. I’m sure that the back room people with the cameras and such like do the hard graft and David gets all the awards and praise. Life is always like mthat though , the ones who do the actual work are usually overlooked !

absolutely ridiculous and way off - for a start that wouldn’t be interesting to him - watch how they made life in earth

of course he doesnt do it alone as its grown

BarbieKew · 08/05/2026 20:47

My cat loves him. We often sit in bed watching nature documentaries with a packet of bourbons/Dreamies. My cat particularly seems to like the Antarctic penguin ones, and any with lions or tigers, obvs.

Flinderskleepers · 08/05/2026 20:47

I can imagine anyone who really liked the name Boaty McBoatface is probably miffed by him.....

SqueakyFromme · 08/05/2026 20:47

i prefer Steve Blackshaw

Omg coudlnt be farther from the truth in his case - you dont really have a good judge of the character of people

Millymollymandy4 · 08/05/2026 20:49

SqueakyFromme · 08/05/2026 20:47

Omg no..

not in same league

Millymollymandy4 · 08/05/2026 20:50

chickenss · 08/05/2026 20:45

Yeah, I watched that.

I thought the stories were very funny

those women worked hard!

it was so wieird how gendered it was

Millymollymandy4 · 08/05/2026 20:51

Plummagic · 08/05/2026 20:44

Him and his team.

Yes but he is the essence

of course there is a team but they are not him

Millymollymandy4 · 08/05/2026 20:52

Everyone keep going on about the team - they are a diffrent generation and wint be giving as much

if you out anyone forward it should be his kids - i bet he saw them less than the royals saw theirs

I don’t personally know any women who have worked with him but I’ve only ever heard positive things from the women who have (but I guess that doesn’t mean some women have had bad experiences with him).

RafaistheKingofClay · 08/05/2026 20:53

I’ve imagine quite a lot of things were still quite gendered in the 1970s.

If the stuff that’s getting made now is still so gendered I’ll start disliking him.

PracticalPolicy · 08/05/2026 20:54

I don't like him. I don't like nature programmes because they're boring. He takes the limelight away from the film crew and producers who take the risks because he's only doing the voice overs these days. He might not even write them himself.

I don't get why everyone thinks he's so amazing and living to 100 is a happy genetic accident.

Agree
Attenborough is not amazing -
he is just privileged !!

piscofrisco · 08/05/2026 20:54

I hardly dare say this, but I actually don’t like him at all. His voice grates on me, I find his programs a bit dull, and I also think he has for a long time been mostly a bit of a voiceover artist.
Sorry all

Horses7 · 08/05/2026 20:55

At the risk of sounding weird….. I love him!
He's like a very knowledgeable teddy bear that’s always been in our lives 😂
