A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Well that's that. Labour out Plaid in charge.

Lammy demonstrated his appalling ignorance yet again yesterday.

In an interview he was asked about about the possibility of Starmer resigning. He stated it wouldn't happen, then went on to use what he clearly thought was a clever analogy, likening Starmer to a pilot flying a plane - he doesn't just stop halfway through. Except, of course, pilots do take breaks during a flight, handing over the controls to a co-pilot.

He does my head in, that man!

Taxi across the French Alps and dispute paying the metre charge.

boys3 · 08/05/2026 19:25

an unholy Plaid supported by Labour to get things through then? @justasking111 I fear Wales may have simply jumped from one frying pan into another.

boys3 · 08/05/2026 19:56

Other Labour loss of control to Reform

  • Gateshead
  • Sandwell
  • St.Helens
  • Wakefield

an almost loss as they went into the election 1 short of a majority

  • South Tyneside

The combined number of Labour councillors left in Sunderland, South Tyneside, St. Helens and Wakefield does not even get into double figures.

2 Labour councillors left in Newcastle, not that they had a majority there going into the election.

Total Labour losses as we approach 8pm are closing in on 1250 councillors.

I'm waiting to see. Drakeford destroyed labour in part by never discussing ideas with other labour senedd members. Shoe horning his own bad ideas in by acting as a dictator his arrogance was boundless. He took advice from Gordon Brown during COVID and punished the Welsh unfairly. He dismissed the 20 mph petition signed by nearly half a million people.

I don't think plaid will make that mistake. It really hasn't done Starmer any favours either.

boys3 · 08/05/2026 20:53

sounds like an upside.

Labour losses over 1300 now - with 11 Councils still to declare.

Sorry to ask - because you’ve done sterling work on the results, for which I’m so grateful - but do you know which 11 councils are yet to declare?

boys3 · 08/05/2026 21:25

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame

I think the latest is:

Not started / no results

  • Croydon, Lewisham, Tower Hamlets - c100 current Labour Cllrs
  • Bradford (46 Lab currently)

In progress, but not fully declared

  • Calderdale - likely Reform gain
  • Kirklees - likely NoC
  • Birmingham - 6 seats to go; 100% NoC
  • Newham; Hackney; Haringey; Hounslow all at various stages - Greens v.likely to gain Hackney and Haringey (may now have happened)

Brilliant - very many thanks. So the total losses for Lab and Con (as I type -1316 and -530 respectively) will likely only get appreciably worse for Labour rather than the Tories, I’m assuming, given the councils you’ve listed.

Labour is probably going to nudge -1500.

Or 59% losses. Ow.

People really don't like calm rational conversation on other threads do they?

oh well. It's good to at least try and inspire a little bit of calm!

I really needed to find something else to do with my Friday night lol.

Reflecting on all the damage Labour have done so far regarding children’s education (vile hatred re the independent sector), business impact, job losses, etc. watching these results, the people speaking, I feel as happy as I have in a long time.

Looks to me like the Labour civil war is starting:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yxr7zng6po

If Starmer is stubborn and truculent - which is that fool’s stock-in-trade - it’ll be a long and bloody conflict.

Good.

Keir Starmer, in an open neck shirt and suit jacket, looking pensive

Many Labour MPs are blaming the boss for elections body blow

Sir Keir Starmer is facing what looks like a coordinated attempt to get him to set a timetable for his departure.

@WaffleBomb tbh given all the great links; share tokens, insights that the various contributors to these threads make its the least I can do. 😀And that's before I get to your excellent curating of these thread!. Maybe I have earned a small glass (or two) of wine to round the evening off. 😅

At the moment I can take at least 1357 positives.

CaveMum · 08/05/2026 22:05

Thanks to everyone keeping tally of the day’s results. We didn’t have any voting in our area yesterday though some others nearby went Reform. Cue lots of braying on local Facebook pages about how they’re going to turn the country round - not sure they've grasped that these were local, not national elections.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 08/05/2026 22:12

I have a nice feeling that Reform will kill off Labour and then dwindle and be re-absorbed into the Tories (those Reformites that are house trained and tolerable, at least)…taking us back to the days of (proper, economic) Liberals and Tories as the great political powers. 👍

My too. They deserve every loss and I will enjoy watching them tear themselves apart. Karma 🍿

Welsh Labour are blaming Starmer. They need to look closer to home for their defeat.

Let's see. I may be imagining things, but I've noticed that Reform and the Conservatives aren't throwing as much abuse at each other as you would expect recently.
