What is your daily step count?

I try to do at least 5000 steps and feel
guilty if I haven’t done enough!

What is your daily count? Do you check each day?

This is MNs, loads will reply saying they do 20k pottering around the house

I do 20k most days but it’s not pottering about. I go for a run most days and at least one more long walk.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 30/04/2026 22:29

Easy day at work today so just over 20k, normally its closer to 25k on a work day. More like 5k on days off

Those at 15k or more daily… Are you stick thin?

No, but I am a healthy weight and I eat quite a lot.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 30/04/2026 22:33

My goal is 10k. I usually do at least that unless I’m ill or extremely busy and out of my usual routine which doesn’t happen often. It annoys me a bit when I’m not able to do it.

I agree that, unless your life includes this number of steps, it is hard to add in. Google says 10,000 steps takes 1.5-2hrs which is time I don't have to spare

Absolutely this is my problem. Finding enough time I am restricted most days to find an hour to just go for a walk. Other movement does not give me meaningful steps.

HerbertVonDoodlebug · 30/04/2026 22:34

Average 15k a day. Work from home (desk job), I do get out for a quick walk in the morning, at lunch and after work as I’d go nuts if I didn’t. Longer walks at the weekend. Plus walking around the house seems to add up!

I’m very much not stick thin, a very average size 10-12.

BB49 · 30/04/2026 22:34

20k today, but other days just over 12k. I’m always over 10k though, as I run a lot and have dogs to walk!

MummyInTheNecropolis · 30/04/2026 22:36

My Fitbit tells me my average for this week is 23,000. I usually do at least 20k, never less than 16k. I walk to work every day which is 6.5km and then walk halfway home. I’m on my feet all day at work and often go for a run in the evening. I also do lots of exercise classes. I’ve been on weight loss injections for over a year, have gone from a size 24 to a size 8, losing 13.5 stone. I used this as an opportunity to overhaul my lifestyle completely and I love walking, hiking, running and exercising now. I don’t drive either so walk everywhere.

retaildispute · 30/04/2026 22:39

Most days about 15k but today was 20 and yesterday 30k - my Fitbit is telling me to calm down 😂

horlickstablets · 30/04/2026 22:39

no idea as no way of tracking it. Can’t have a phone/garmin/smart watch in work

User74939590 · 30/04/2026 22:40

7000 on an average day but prefer it to be 10,000 so I can close my ring!

ChaseTheSin · 30/04/2026 22:47

Ofchris · 30/04/2026 20:55

As ever MN is wholly unrepresentative of the wider population where the average step count is between 3000 - 4000 per day.

Absolutely! This self selecting survey is wild - most people do nowhere near this level of activity!

I’ve usually done 100k before breakfast obvs 😂

Your “quick walk” must be fairly significant to get to 15k!

MiddleAgedDread · 30/04/2026 22:49

Typically average 10-15,000 over a rolling 7 days but got an injury at the moment so it’s been less. Currently 11,500 average this week. Full time desk job.

lionbreath2 · 30/04/2026 22:51

I really try to get to 10,000 a day. This is harder on my days at work as I’m at a desk all day but with a lunchtime stroll and a dog walk after work I can just about do it. On my days off it’s much easier, I did 5,000 just doing household jobs this morning and am now on 14,000. If I can average 10,000 a day over the course of the week then I’m happy with that.

ADogRocketShip · 30/04/2026 22:52

I aim for 10k and usually manage 12k on WFH days as I have a walking pad under my desk. Office days I’m less active and do about 5-6k.

lionbreath2 · 30/04/2026 22:53

BotterMon · 30/04/2026 22:14

No idea. I am able to survive perfectly well without tracking my every function.

Why comment then 😂

NotMyRealAccount · 30/04/2026 22:56

Garmin Connect tells me I've averaged 18,700 steps per day in the last 12 months, though I know some of those "steps" are actually chopping vegetables, hanging washing on the line and applauding at concerts and presentations.

ToRideOrNotToRide · 30/04/2026 22:56

@greensuitcase

I’m 5”8, weigh 10 stone 10 and wear a size 10.

As well as the steps I lift weights 3x a week

I eat a lot of ice cream and chocolate

ProseccoandPizza · 30/04/2026 23:00

Average steps is 20k BUT I work part time, aim for 4 gym sessions a week and walk my terrier 4+ miles a day over varied terrain.

What is your daily step count?
LoserWinner · 30/04/2026 23:09

I live in a city, walk everywhere. My Fitbit says my daily average is 19761.

BurntBroccoli · 30/04/2026 23:31

QueenOfHiraeth · 30/04/2026 22:26

I have no idea as I refuse to wear technology that will nag at me
My phone records steps but I often put it down while doing housework etc so it doesn't record my steps pottering about the kitchen for example.
I know I don't do enough but can do loads without any problems when I need to

I only record the ones on my phone too so there’s probably quite a few more in my count.

My target is 6000 but I only manage that on the days I go out for a long walk at lunchtime no less than an hour. I don't understand how people get such large numbers 'just normal life' or 'pottering around'

I don’t understand either. A few years ago I went to Florence and walked virtually non stop for 12 hours and only clocked up 19,000 steps. I really could not have walked more!

Baseline steps is 15k per day with 20 flights of stairs (or equivalent if outside). I regularly run 5Ks and cycle 30K. Need to keep the resting heart rate in high-40s / low 50s!

I think if you can fit steps into your daily life you do way more. Eg having a dog or walking children to school and back twice a day. Often type of job too.

If you work from home you actively have to go out and walk so an hour is around 6000 steps.

I do have a dog and walk him. Two days a week I have a job where I am in my feet a lot and might do 8,000 steps at the most.
I am also very active gardening etc so
