What is your daily step count?

I try to do at least 5000 steps and feel
guilty if I haven’t done enough!

What is your daily count? Do you check each day?

Duplicate post!

atamlin · 30/04/2026 21:03

I always aim to get over 10,000 - it’s usually between 10 and 15,000. I used to get a lot more but I have a toddler who insists on walking everywhere so I’m doing 1000 steps an hour where I would have done 6000. I bribe her with strawberries to sit in the pushchair so I can get the bulk of my steps in …!

Daily average is 11,893

I thought I was doing quite well with that but reading this thread, people do tonnes more!

MaybeThisTimeILlbeLucky · 30/04/2026 21:05

@circusrunaways that's the size of the house they are "pottering " in

mumofoneAloneandwell · 30/04/2026 21:06

If i had my way - 7

EverythingIsComputer · 30/04/2026 21:06

I WFH and still manage at least 10k, people doing 500 must work from their beds surely?!
I do have a dog to walk and do laundry and a bit of other housework outside of my working hours.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/04/2026 21:11

13.1k average over the past year according to Garmin.
I'm around that today on a 2.5km walk and general life.
It would have been more if I'd walked to work. I'm on my feet most of the day, plus I've been moving around (and getting up/ down from the floor) at Cubs.

BurntBroccoli · 30/04/2026 21:13

ImFineItsAllFine · 30/04/2026 20:45

About 4000 on a WFH day and 8000 on an office day. Id love to get it higher but work full time at a desk job and commute by car. I'm already parking right at the back of the car park!

Yeah I always park in the furthest away spot in a car park!

I think when you have a dog it really bumps your step count up!

Only a cat here although he sometimes tries to follow me on walks!

Yeah I know! Feel as though my 5K is way too low!

10k+ every day. Today was 28,000! But that involved a 6k run and a lot of shuttling children to and fro as we had various events and I’m a mean parent who always makes them walkGrin

BurntBroccoli · 30/04/2026 21:17

Ofchris · 30/04/2026 20:55

As ever MN is wholly unrepresentative of the wider population where the average step count is between 3000 - 4000 per day.

Ah is it? I live in a village where I hardly see anyone out walking!

Autumngirl5 · 30/04/2026 21:20

How do people manage so many steps? I usually manage 6-8,000 and I think I’m really active.

Beachbodyready · 30/04/2026 21:22

Used to be 4000-5000, got a dog and now 12000+

Doyouthinktheyknow · 30/04/2026 21:24

Try to do 10k on work days, minimum 15k non work days because I get out and walk. Harder when I’m at work.

We are away on a walking holiday, today I’ve done 43k which is several walks combined over the day totalling 20.6 miles.

ShetlandishMum · 30/04/2026 21:24

15-20.000 if on shift.
5-10.000 if not working.

No car.

MrsLFii · 30/04/2026 21:25

I have literally no clue 🤣 I don’t wear any sort of tracker and I don’t take my phone everywhere so as to use that either. It would vary massively I expect! I’m a SAHM to two v small people who I try to keep fairly busy but that may be a long walk etc or it may be sitting on my arse with a coffee while they’re in rugby tots or whatever!

IglesiasPiggl · 30/04/2026 21:26

I have zero inclination to obsess about how many steps I have done. I just live by the mantra that moving is better than not moving, take the stairs, walk instead of bus, take a walk instead of sitting on the sofa. No idea how many steps that is, but it's definitely better than not doing it!

helpfulperson · 30/04/2026 21:28

My target is 6000 but I only manage that on the days I go out for a long walk at lunchtime no less than an hour. I don't understand how people get such large numbers 'just normal life' or 'pottering around'

FatterthanBarbie · 30/04/2026 21:34

mummyof2boys30 · 30/04/2026 20:28

15k a day minimum. I do 1hr gym and 3 mile walk daily though. Currenly on 19k today which is a normal sorta of day for me

What is your weight / height if your don't mind me asking

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 30/04/2026 21:36

16000 on a work day. I'm on my feet all day.

SallyAnnDrivesACar · 30/04/2026 21:40

I looked the other day and id done 243. I do go to the gym every day and do a class and some gym though.
I've had a stroke and have MS.

Ohfudgeoff · 30/04/2026 21:41

14,462 today according to my Fitbit, probably higher than the other week days but standard for me due to walking to and from kids regular activities. I don't have a car and we live in a city where everywhere is more accessible by foot so I walk a lot. DH WFH most days and rarely leaves the house, his step count is probably bout 1k tops - his walk to the coffee shop on the corner and back again!

On my working days, I average about 10-11k. Infant teacher so on my feet all day.

ToRideOrNotToRide · 30/04/2026 21:42

Today 28,886.

That’s school runs on foot
1 hour lunchtime walk
2 hour dog walk this evening
Housework/ pottering

Average is about 16k a day

momager22 · 30/04/2026 21:44

Average 9100/day. Sedentary/ desk based job so I aim for 10k but obviously don’t quite hit it often
