Support and solidarity after antisemitic stabbings in North London

xabimunich3 · 29/04/2026 14:05

Apologies if there's already a thread, I couldn't see one.
Two Jewish men have been stabbed in North London, one outside some shops and another outside a synagogue. According to Sky News the suspect has been tasered and arrested after trying to also attack police officers.
Once again, we have another attack on Jewish people trying to go about their lives. I'm not Jewish but send my support and solidarity to all Jewish people who must feel very scared and vulnerable at the moment. I've already donated to the Campaign Against Antisemitism but I'd love to hear any ideas about how to do more, I just feel so disgusted and outraged that this is happening.

Violent offenders with poor mental health is really becoming rather a problem now isn’t it. What’s to be done? Perhaps it’s time for the institutions to reopen their doors and then at least we can ensure these poor, violent men get the medication they need.

Edited

NHS MH Services are definitely woefully inadequate these days and the threshold for being detained is much too high.

Forty85 · Yesterday 22:57

Also not Jewish, I'm absolutely sickened by these attacks and all anti-semetic attacks. Sending support and solidarity.

Greycatthewizard · Yesterday 22:59

Care in the community was a complete failure
If what has been reported about the man, like being reported to Prevent etc. Then I suppose lessons will be learned again!

I've seen people on MN saying that Jews are making things up, or playing the victims, or false flag etc etc etc. Time and time again. MN allows many of those to stand, I myself have reported some disgustingly anti-semitic posts and some have been allowed to stand.

I have seen people including @PurpleThistle7 talk about her fear and concerns and being dismissed as making it up. I'd also suggest that no non-Jew should be telling a Jewish person that what they are experiencing isn't anti-semitism and they are being too sensitive, which I have also seen time and time again.

A few years ago I started a thread about my ds being Sieg Heil’d at school. I was pissed off when MNHQ deleted a post doubting that it actually happened. People need to see the behaviour! It is unsurprising that the poster doubted that anti-Semitism happens, if they never see it, if anti-Semitic posts are routinely deleted. I’m not saying that every foulness should be given platform, but people need to see that it exists, and we need to be able to call it out and to refute offensive statements.

I stand with the Jewish community. I am appalled at the way rising levels of antisemitism have been left unchecked by this cowardly government under the protective banner of 'free speech and the right to protest.' We all (especially politicians, the media, the arts, faith and community groups) need to call out the hate directed at a British minority community for the actions of a foreign government. We did not tolerate this after 9/11, why are we tolerating it now?

thomasinacat · Yesterday 23:31

Sending support and solidarity to our Jewish friends. Time for good people to speak up about this. Enough. Angry and disgusted that this is happening in our country, to you our fellow countrymen and women. And that events in another part of the world are being used to hate-monger here by people who do not hold British values.

LesbianNana · Today 04:57

Posting my support for the Jewish community. I’m so very sorry you are forced to live your lives in fear. 😞

I was pondering about the rise in anti semitism today and remember after the 7/7 attack we were encouraged to reach out to the Muslim community to reassure them we knew it wasn't all Muslims and offer support. Wouldn't it be nice if people of all faiths and none could do something similar to reassure the Jewish community that they are an integral and important part of the UK and very much wanted and cared about

I’m stunned the first instinct was to reach out to the Muslim community and not the Jewish community! That seems incredibly backwards. It’s prescient with everything going on now, isn’t it?

SunnyAfternoonToday · Today 09:09

Facts: Figures from the Home Office for the year ending March 2025 show that Jewish people are almost ten times more likely than Muslims to be victims of religious hate crimes. There were 106 religious hate crimes per 10,000 of the population targeted at Jewish people, compared with 12 per 10,000 of the population targeting Muslims.

MaturingCheeseball · Today 09:16

Well, as someone upthread pointed out, there are 4 million Muslims vs 250,000 Jews.

By next week there will be multiple extreme councillors (Independents and those hitching a lift with the Greens). Birmingham will be practically a city state - and not a good one, especially for Jewish residents.

Bringemout · Today 09:16

Just here to express solidarity with the Jewish community, I know you are suffering but I want to assure you that so many of us stand with you.

I've seen the same too, and have been shocked that MNHQ allowed some of the more virulent posts to stand. Who are these posters who tell Jews that they are 'imagining it' and far worse? I'd call them out as being antisemitic but my posts would be taken down and/or I'll be banned no doubt.

Thechateau · Today 09:31

It's devastating. I'm really upset by this, it's brought me to tears. I can't believe that this is happening in the UK. And worse, that there are people quibbling over the £25m of increased security.

Solidarity and love to all Jewish people, I'm so very sorry.

I moved away from Birmingham several years ago! I think everyone arguing for immigration should have to take their families and live there for several years to find out the real life implications of their views..I’m not sure how the problem there can be solved - but people need to understand there is a real issue in Birmingham and many parts of Solihull.

It needs pointing out that many anti semitic posts are allowed to stand, I suspect some of the moderators perhaps aren’t aware as what counts as anti semitism and there may be a need for some additional training.

I’m not Jewish but I want to extend my sympathy to all British Jews who are living in fear. It is truly awful.

I'm genuinely worried about the green vote next week and what this means for British Jews....

Thank you with all my heart to the non Jewish people here sending sympathy and solidarity. It means everything to hear your voices.

Honestly, you should not have to thank anybody for showing basic humanity. Antisemitism, like all other forms of racism, is utterly abhorrent, and you should be able to take it for granted that any normal person would condemn it.

I'm so sorry that you do not feel that you are able to take this for granted.

It is concerning. Views will be amplified through politics.

upinaballoon · Today 13:17

Programmes about 1930s Germany and the rise of Nazi power are probably not watched by many people in Britain, whose U.K.-born grandparents were involved in WW2. Maybe those years are part of the history curriculum in schools. I don't know. I was born just after that war and I have always been interested to some extent in history, not only the C20.
I am not Jewish. I am appalled at the current situation, with British Jews afraid for their lives. I know a lot of people don't learn from history. In 30 years time I will have died. I have begun to wonder what this country will be like then.
Edited for punctuation.

Like I imagined the number Sharpied onto my son’s left forearm.

I stand with the Jewish community. You are supported by the ordinary decent people in the UK.

I'm so sorry that the politicians have let you down. There needs to be zero tolerance and harsh sentences for anyone who who harasses the Jewish community and that includes policitcal candidates

NotmeMother · Today 14:03

I too stand with the jewish community as a non-jew. I sincerely hope we can get this turned around so that you can live your lives in peace in our shared country.
