Support and solidarity after antisemitic stabbings in North London

Apologies if there's already a thread, I couldn't see one.
Two Jewish men have been stabbed in North London, one outside some shops and another outside a synagogue. According to Sky News the suspect has been tasered and arrested after trying to also attack police officers.
Once again, we have another attack on Jewish people trying to go about their lives. I'm not Jewish but send my support and solidarity to all Jewish people who must feel very scared and vulnerable at the moment. I've already donated to the Campaign Against Antisemitism but I'd love to hear any ideas about how to do more, I just feel so disgusted and outraged that this is happening.

Of course I do and I have empathy for people with severe mental health issues too. The two are not mutually exclusive

And you are derailing this thread which is primarily offering support to British Jews.

BikingHoots · Yesterday 19:10

I think more non Jewish people are starting to wake up about this. These attacks on the Jewish community are disgraceful. The lacklustre response by the government and other political parties is also a disgrace. The media is biased against the Jewish community. Full support to the Jewish in our country. This hatred needs to stop. And as for for the two Islamic candidates posting that abhorrent antisemitic cartoons today, it’s chilling.

What can an average person do to help?

I always wish there was something I could do to at least let people know there are many of us out here who support you and see the problems Jewish people are currently facing.

What can we do?

I think be educated about Jewish history. Challenge stereotypes like if you hear people sniping that Jews are 'always whinging and calling everything antisemitism', and let them know Jews have experienced millennia of persecution so its understandable that they feel threatened by upshots in attacks

I've just read the PM's speech and in it he says:

"If you stand alongside people who say globalise the intifada, you are calling for terrorism against Jews and people who use that phrase should be prosecuted. It is racism, extremely racism and it has left a minority community in this country scared, intimidated, wondering if they belong."

No shit, Sherlock.

So why - after countless marches during which calls to globalise the intifada were being made - did it take this government until December 2025 before arrests and prosecutions began? Horse and stable door spring to mind.

I'm not at all surprised he was boo-ed and heckled by the Jewish community on his visit to Golder's Green.

I’m just posting to say that I send my support and love to all Jewish people in the U.K. This attack was disgusting, as were the others. The hate is beyond my comprehension.

All I can hope is that Starmer finally does something.

Call out anti-semitism whenever you encounter it. I had a debate with someone not that long ago who conflated British Jews with Israeli government policy. That was until I pointed out that British Jews weren't responsible for the actions of the British government, let alone the Israeli one, and to suggest otherwise was absurd.

I agree. But he won't. The nerve of him to say we must all open our eyes to what is happening to Jewish communities, when our eyes have been open from the start to this anti Semitic campaign of hate, yet our outrage has been ignored. The only people with the power to actually DO anything is the government. What would he like us, the general public, do? Make citizens arrests?

I never understand why people think that. It's barking mad.

I am sure if other British people were being targeted because of the British government's actions in Iraq, or The Falklands, or any other war we have been in they would be outraged.

I recall in Australia watching a white Australian uni student when asked why she apparently hates Australian Jews she said it was because they were colonialists. Not sure what happened to Australian history education since I left but....

It’s terrifying what has been happening to the Jewish community in the UK. Just appalling.
The media is partly to blame, and the government, for allowing pure unadulterated hate to thrive on the streets of Britain.
Jewish people in this country have done nothing whatsoever to deserve any of this and my heart goes out to all UK Jewish people.

DeposedPresident · Yesterday 20:39

I have just read on fb (The Campaign Against Antisemtism page) that the terrorist responsible for yesterday's attack had a little habit of going to vigils held for the hostages held by Hamas and being verbally and physically abusive to participants. He had apparently been reported to the Police on several occasions.

PurpleThistle7 · Yesterday 20:41

Well what people can do where I live is stop everyone I work with and half my kids' teachers from wearing keffiyehs and Palestinian flag pins and the regular marches at my workplace with very pleased students and university staff waving signs about my death.

But more generally - honestly, just show up and believe us. The amount of times - on here or in person - I've had to spend ages arguing with people about something that seems impossible to argue against 'my kids and I are scared' and I'll get back a long list of either why we shouldn't be or what happened in Israel in 1968 or 1242 or anything in between or since or something about how someone else had a harder time somewhere else... it's exhausting. If I could spend more of my energy figuring out how to make things better instead of arguing with people if this is even happening maybe I could come up with a better plan.

DeposedPresident · Yesterday 20:50

I've seen people on MN saying that Jews are making things up, or playing the victims, or false flag etc etc etc. Time and time again. MN allows many of those to stand, I myself have reported some disgustingly anti-semitic posts and some have been allowed to stand.

I have seen people including @PurpleThistle7 talk about her fear and concerns and being dismissed as making it up. I'd also suggest that no non-Jew should be telling a Jewish person that what they are experiencing isn't anti-semitism and they are being too sensitive, which I have also seen time and time again.

AlwaysRoomForGin · Yesterday 21:43

There are approximately 250,000 Jewish people in the UK - a tiny number - and more than 4 million Muslims.
I want to be clear: I am not stating that Muslims hate Jews or are the only ones to take part in the marches, hate speech, slogans and spreading misinformation. In fact ironically many of those we see supporting Palestine Action et al on the news and social media are ultra privileged white people who have jumped on the latest trendy cause or fallen back on old tropes, thinly veiled and disguised as the acceptable face, even laudable (in their view) of anti zionism. It's just BS.

As British Jews we say prayers weekly, during our festivals and our celebrations to protect the Royal Family, the UK Government and armed forces of this country we reside in as well as to protect those in Israel. As Jews it is instilled in us that we assimilate and recognise the countries we live in wherever this may be.

This specific thread is about antisemitism we Jews are facing in Britain but it is also being seen in terrifying swathes the world over. Globally, we need more non Jewish voices, to shout out, to stand with us and for Muslims to call out hateful and harmful ideology. We are tired of living in fear, of apologising for a belief in self determination, of being lambasted for merely having the temerity to exist and the constant standards that Jews are unfairly held up that no other race or ethnicity are subjected to.

He was known to the authorities. I hope they get sued by the families of the victims.

The government don’t have the police to deal with the aftermath of outlawing the marches. That’s why they won’t do anything.

I don’t know the details about this attacker, only that he had a history of mental illness. Psychosis wouldn’t have prevented a person doing what you have said here though.

Do you always show such sympathy for terrorists?

Posting in solidarity and sending love to the Jewish community.

Jewish parents and teachers, Jewish or otherwise, might want to contribute to this review into antisemitism in schools if you have experiences to share. We've been fortunate my kids haven't experienced any, but sad to say I have had parents asking me if my kids' school is safe for Jewish kids when choosing secondaries because this is a consideration now

I’m wanting to do something.
In my sleepy village we don’t get antisemitism or pally flag waving either.
My hometown -in the northeast- has become a Mecca for refugees -aka illegals- as the labour council takes them in, houses them and says fuck the locals. The synagogue has closed down, the Jewish cemetery is locked.
So I dont know what to do or where to go to offer my support.
Im going to go to the Jewish bakery in Gateshead very kindly reccomended by @Greycatthewizard but I don’t even know if the staff are Jewish and I might feel a bit odd whispering ‘are there going to be any support marches’!!
Does anyone have any ideas? Any suggestions of where to phone or email?

And for what it’s worth, I’m appalled this thread has received such little support and traffic.
Mumsnet seem very vocal about telling us men in dresses are men in dresses (which I agree with) but we must never mention Muslims in anything but revered ways despite the henious prolific raping gangs causing untold horrors to untold women & girls -including myself.

I don’t have sympathy for terrorists. I have empathy for people with serious MH issues. Totally different.
That is clear from my earlier posts, if you read them calmly rather than frothing at the mouth at the opportunity to be sanctimonious and self righteous.

Greycatthewizard · Yesterday 22:43

I believe they are Jewish, the shop closes on a Saturday and the male staff wear a kippah.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · Yesterday 22:46

Violent offenders with poor mental health is really becoming rather a problem now isn’t it. What’s to be done? Perhaps it’s time for the institutions to reopen their doors and then at least we can ensure these poor, violent men get the medication they need.
