Do you think he turned up with a bunch of flowers, wearing a t.shirt with ‘No means no’ emblazoned across the front?

No, but I bet he was delighted to find an eager female on arrival.

Speaking as someone who has had cats all her life and has been adopting rescues from Wood Green Animal Shelter for over 40 years, some of the comments on this thread have made my eyes water.

There really is no need for all the really quite nasty unpleasantness from some of the posters on this thread.

The OP is breeding responsibly from a pedigree animal and has already arranged homes for them to go to. We're not talking semi-feral cats being impregnated by the local Tom by accident.

Homes for now. She has no idea if they’ll be in those homes for life or where they’ll end up and there’s nothing responsible about adding to the numbers of cats in the world. That they are pedigree and therefore could make money for anyone who grows tired of them or decides that they want the money more than the cat, only makes it worse as does the fact that she’s doing this for money. And being a pedigree doesn’t stop cats from being mistreated or abandoned.

Jeeze, can everyone lay off the OP! She's bred some lovely kittens from a pedigree cat and most likely will just break even from her costs after selling them.

No. People who actively choose to add to the already enormous cat welfare problem and exploit their pet deserve all the criticism that they get.

I bought my Tonkinese cat on the internet. Even more shockingly she had to be flown in from another city. They weren't professional breeders. She is lovely, healthy and affectionate and I don't feel the slightest bit guilty about buying her. She will have a home for life with us.

PurpleEmerald · 27/04/2026 17:50

Are you going to insist your clients have their kittens spayed or neutered? I do think breeding extra kittens is madness but this would at least draw a line under it.

Totally agree. Some really nasty people on this thread. I have a rescue cat and my daughter has just got two rescue cats. I still love a maine coon and hope OP posts more pictures as they grow. My treasured childhood dog was a cairn terrier. Obviously a pedigree which would horrify some people on here. He was adored and had a long and happy life.

If you really run a cat rescue, are all the cats neutered, vaccinated and have a return whenever policy?
The amazing cat rescue I adopted from doesn’t agree with cat breeding!
How can people agree to cat breeding when there are thousands and thousands of cats and kittens needing loving homes.
I’m on couple of Facebook pages for cats and everyday, there are strays, cats run over. Constant requests to scan cats hanging around gardens, run over etc.

It’s also not pleasant for the queens! Tom cats don’t ask nicely!

There are some utter buffoons on Mumsnet, who have no idea of time and place, and who believe in the god given right to judge anyone whenever the feeling takes them.

Well that makes everything okay then.

Gosh you really are naïve aren't you?

So she's allowed her cat to get pregnant and she's giving the kittens away for free, is she?

Funny how she hasn't mentioned this.

And why can't those families bring joy to cats who need re-homing?

And you really are very arrogant and a bit dim to assume you know the ethics and motives of an internet stranger based on a few posts and photos.

Get off the thread and take your virtue signalling agenda somewhere else if you don’t like it.

I never said I run a cat rescue. I have a cat that came from a rescue.

I don’t run a cat rescue either but the one I volunteer for has a neuter, vaccinate & return them to us if you can’t keep them policy.

Hopefully the OP is doing exactly that with her kittens.
