Absolutely hysterical the other day on Holloway Road
I met my two eldest children (20s) for a nice lunch and afterwards my daughter said, lets go for a sweet treat and a coffee over to this place...and she pointed over the other side of the road.
I said "oooh, that shop looks interesting just before the cafe" (kind of like a Bagpuss shop) - they were both instantly like "oh, no...don.t look in there!"
It's Ram Books
We're walking up past it , me joking "ohhh, kids, look away!" (like I do if we're going past a council estate, yer know?!) - jokes - anyway, it's obviously a sex shop of the old style - I thought they'd all shut!?
However, it's an absolute disgrace!
Behind the Bagpuss exterior, there's an actual CAT sitting in the window...like they're trying to lure us in to their world of depravity. We had a little chuckle.
We're not really a family who's very good when it comes to sex things usually...when we were watching a film when the kids were teens, they'd disappear off to the kitchen for a biscuit if there was any sign of any sauciness just about to happen; we still call that kind of thing "a Rich Tea Moment" if the subject arises...ha!
Anyway, after cake and coffee we wandered round the corner to Highbury Fields where I'd never been before.
As soon as we got there, I started with this Andie McDowell impression about "oooh, I hadn't noticed it was raining"
I kept on doing it as an (annoying) running joke.
But blimey cockspittle if it wasn't actually the place; when I got home, that's where Hugh Grant had lived in 4 Weds n an F...his aura must have invaded me as soon as I stepped into it.
Amazing coincidence, Jack Antonoff was on the radio that night with whatshername with blonde hair; he only produced HAim/Taylor Swift/Kendrick LAmarr (some of my kids' fave artists) ...and is also married to Andie McDowell's daughter.
Super nepo, ofc, but a very strange coincidence (if anyone's still reading!) - and all related to that Sex Shop on Holloway Road.
Aaaah, well, I enjoyed it...
