Whats her secret?

Watching a programme from a couple of years ago, shes doing some walk with other celebs. Shes 73 in the programme!!! She looks like shes 20 years younger

She's full of energy, enthusiasm, so happy and positive

Im a right misery in comparison and decades younger.

On the Pilgrimage show Su found the middle ground. She wore practical walking clothes just like the other pilgrims but always had something colourful or cheery on as well so never dull.

You would see another, very gentle, thoughtful and authentic side to her if you were to watch the show Drusilla.

I might have but just seen the cast for that series and it’s the usual publicity hungry muppets.

It's a gentle, thoughtful show in beautiful country. Su was the only person on the show I'd heard of before but I found her fellow pilgrims very humble, considerate, funny and very kind to each other. It's a really heartwarming show with lovely people. Obviously not the kind of thing you're in to so fair play.

Well there clearly is plenty of room, judging by the fact I’m not the only one who thinks she’s annoying…

Have you met her in real life?

Tbf I’m not into shows full of fairly untalented reality tv people who would sell their own mothers to get their faces out there.

They're not reality TV stars. Most of them are lifelong talented actors, dancers, broadcasters, musicians, comedians, Olympians, ParaOlympians etc.

Go on, watch it, it might put a smile on your face and spark new ideas.

piscofrisco · 17/04/2026 16:43

She was in the pub Dh and I went to after we had bought my engagement ring. We got to chatting to her and she admired my ring, bought us a glass of champagne each, introduced us to the friend she was with, and on Hearing my FIL was a huge Hi de Hi fan, spoke to him in the phone in character as Peggy for 5 minutes! Honestly two of the loveliest hours of my life. She was fabulous and everything you think she would be.

He does! Plus he seems like a genuinely nice person. I know he's been really lovely to fans when filming All Creatures Great and Small.

That’s nice to hear. I fear if I met him I might come over all unnecessary, he’s a bit of alright despite being 25 years older than me…

piscofrisco · 17/04/2026 16:45

Love her!

I wouldn’t want to, to be honest. I don’t have the energy to deal with people like that

PuppyMonkey · 17/04/2026 17:14

@LiviaDrusillaAugusta you do sound like you could do with a lie down now you mention it. Grin

NooNakedJacuzziness · 17/04/2026 17:33

@piscofrisco- what a lovely thing to do 😊

Uricon2 · 17/04/2026 17:41

I've changed my opinion of SP reading this thread. I thought she might be mega loud, attention grabbing and annoyingly 'I'm mad me' having only seen her in the old sitcoms back in the day, but she sounds like a genuinely nice, generous person from all the personal encounters and Pilgrimage, etc.

Edited

It's good to hear about nice celebrities rather than the, Don't you know who I am?" brigade.

I haven't seen the programme in question and abhor reality TV in general but
Su Pollard is a seasoned actress who's paid her dues for 50 years!

I don't consider her 'reality TV people'

As a result of this thread I'll be looking out for her live shows

I know who she is - but I might have watched the programme but the rest of the cast were even worse!

Su's fellow pilgrims were

Rita Simons - An actress whose career incudes 15 years in Eastenders.
Shane Lynch of Boyzone - 7 million record sales.
Vicky Pattison - actress and radio host
Bobby Seagull - TV and radio presenter and Emmanuel College, Cambridge team captain on University challenge.
Nabil Abdulrashid - Award winning comedian,
Millie Knight - Paralympian skier, blind since age of six. Youngest ever UK competitor in the Paralympics, multiple medals including two silver and one bronze Olympic medal.

All completely different, different ages, backgrounds, careers, faiths.

In your opinion were they all worse in different ways or the same way?

It's the kind of show that really opens your mind and makes you question your preconceptions. You haven't watched it have you.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 17/04/2026 19:24

Rita Simons - 15 years in one role but nothing really before or since

Vicky Pattison - Geordie Shore ‘star’ who appears to have no discernible talent

Bobby Seagull - Eccentric UC contestant, brilliant mathematician but don’t give up the day job

Shane Lynch - once in a manufactured boyband where, like most boy bands of the time, the members were chosen by how they looked and not for any discernible talent

The other two - random comedian who isn’t exactly a household name and a Paralympic skier (not exactly well known either)

Yes, I will pass. If watching that makes you like some of those the thread then why would I?

I cant remember now why I was watching it, I had seen some of the other series and now it flicks onto the next series and the next one and the next one as Im watching them, so many I have missed, not sure how old they all are, they're amazing

The one Im on now has Michaela Strachan, some woman off Traitors, the bloke out of Made in Chelsea and some others

It doesnt really matter who they are, its so interesting, the route is fascinating no matter what country they're doing it it, Ive seen them do Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Portugual, Spain, France, Italy. I think the Italy one was best, they got to Rome, incredible.

Oh Livia!!!!!

If I was religious I would say 'bless you'

I think you need to go on a pilgrimage.

She’s great, met her on a cruise. She had so much time for everyone 🩷

Snowie99 · 17/04/2026 20:16

I watch her on “You rang m’lord” on channel 65. To me she’s the absolute star of the show

Tuhafeni · 17/04/2026 20:18

@likelysuspect I really enjoy Pilgrimage too. I’m not especially religious but I find it fascinating to learn about the roots of people’s ideas about faith and how that means they live their lives. They get a great range of participants.

We began watching it as DD is a Christian interested in all branches Christianity as well as other faiths. We’ve had some great discussions off the back of it. This summer, inspired in part by Pilgrimage, we are donning our backpacks and heading to the shrine of St Winnifred, in North Wales. Wish me luck 😆

Ive actually wondered if I might do one of these one day. Im atheist but would do it for the walk and the experience, it looks great, as long as I dont have to try to keep up with people
