Whats her secret?

Watching a programme from a couple of years ago, shes doing some walk with other celebs. Shes 73 in the programme!!! She looks like shes 20 years younger

She's full of energy, enthusiasm, so happy and positive

Im a right misery in comparison and decades younger.

OP posts:

I saw her a couple of years ago in a supermarket in Camden. She definitely looks a lot younger than her age and she was colourfully dressed. I guess her whole career has been based on her bubbly and happy personality.

MorrisZapp · 16/04/2026 10:21

She was briefly married to a gay Australian, the way he tells it it was a non stop party!

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 16/04/2026 10:25

I saw her in the street in London, so many people were waving at her and saying hi, she stopped for selfies with lots. I was with a school party and she was so friendly to them (they hadn't a scoobie who she was).

Piglet89 · 16/04/2026 10:26

The joy just shines out of her. @PottingBenchdidn’t know she had featured on a Pilgrimage: I’ll watch that - thanks for the link.

Lovely to read such heartening comments 🙂

NooNakedJacuzziness · 16/04/2026 10:26

Forni-ca-TOR ! 🤣

Viviennemary · 16/04/2026 10:26

I find her horribly irritating. But nice that she does good works for charity without shouting about it.

Mischance · 16/04/2026 10:29

She is totally manic! But I do sometimes wonder if she does not go flat when in the privacy of her own home and there is a sad person underneath.

I’m a sunny side up person, and a friend (who is Negative Nelly) once said to me “it must be hard work keeping up the act all the time”. Honestly… I’m just naturally happy! And I realise how lucky I am, too.

Fab user name!

ginasevern · 16/04/2026 10:36

She never had any children and said she preferred "panto to potties". I think not having that huge responsibility, retaining a lot of freedom to have fun and your own independence helps keep you young.

"Hi-De-Hi" is an absolute classic. Her role as Peggy the chalet maid was such a lovely character. I admired her ambition to be a Yellow Coat!

I was only thinking about this the other day for some reason! There was a slight tinge of sadness to her character too was t there as the others slightly looked down on her. Su played it brilliantly

IceStationZebra · 16/04/2026 10:45

My own recent “appears decades younger than they actually are” was Samuel West. I was watching his birdwatching programme with Ade Edmondson and ended up down a Wikipedia rabbit hole with both of them, and was flabbergasted that Sam will be 60 this year. Obviously makes sense with the age of his parents but I know 40 year olds who look older than that. Lucky him!

He does! Plus he seems like a genuinely nice person. I know he's been really lovely to fans when filming All Creatures Great and Small.

I don't think so. She's bubbly rather than loud. I doubt she'd be "in your face", that's a very negative supposition.

Why is it negative? People that are always ‘on’ can drain the life out of others although it’s not intentional.!Thats how she comes across.

Flintstonerubble · 16/04/2026 11:43

I’ve just read this entire thread with my brain more befuddled with every post. I kept thinking “I don’t get it. I don’t dislike her but I’m not feeling this love for her”

Then the penny dropped. I thought the discussion was about Eve Pollard! 😂

evilharpy · 16/04/2026 11:52

Surprised nobody has mentioned Benidorm. She only did a Christmas special but was brilliant in it (although it was also one of the saddest things I've ever seen on TV - not for reasons related to Su though!).

I would love a Su/Timmy Mallet/Mr Motivator collab. Three absolute legends.

I was once incredibly confused by Vogue Williams not being Venus Williams.

I find negative people far more draining.

Yours are the only negative comments on this thread BTW.

MrFluffyDogIsMyBestFriend · 16/04/2026 12:04

She's a sociopath so she doesn't have the same worries as a standard person.

But I see that - as usual - no-one else has noticed.

Su Pollard?

LeopardsRockingham · 16/04/2026 12:15

Wtf?
Can you explain your diagnosis?

Tuhafeni · 16/04/2026 12:20

Were you watching Pilgrimage? She was wonderful in that series- so warm and full of life?

Blueuggboots · 16/04/2026 12:22

I saw her live a few years ago. She was hilarious.

LlynTegid · 16/04/2026 12:24

Strikes me as someone who is grateful for the opportunities that being in a successful sitcom has given her.
