Whats her secret?

Watching a programme from a couple of years ago, shes doing some walk with other celebs. Shes 73 in the programme!!! She looks like shes 20 years younger

She's full of energy, enthusiasm, so happy and positive

Im a right misery in comparison and decades younger.

I met her many years ago through work. She was as fabulous as you would expect. The clothes are part of her personality.

I think that’s part of the problem. It’s all part of the ‘look at me’ vibe.

Should she just stay in her shell and be passive? I genuinely don't know what the problem is.

Give me fun, whacky, happy any day over a fun sponge/joy sucker!

Absolutely! Plus colourful clothing instead of all the black leggings, grey joggers and black puffa coats out there.

Actually the ‘fun whacky‘ types are the ones who leech energy and attention from everyone else in the room. They are exhausting to be around

Do they still do puffa jackets?

Yes. They do.

Obviously ladies of a certain age aren't meant to wear funky clothes.
Yep any of us over 60s should be in top to toe beige or twinsets 🙄

We should! I'm 66 and wouldn't be seen dead in beige or grey.

RaraRachael · 17/04/2026 12:18

Me neither @PatriciaRocks.

My mother and her cronies were in their 80s and were always in beige with the same shampoo and set hairdo.

I made a mental note never to look like that.

SirChenjins · 17/04/2026 12:21

I love watching her on TV and think she'd be great fun as she is obviously completely and genuinely bonkers - but I think I'd find being in a room with that amount of energy very tiring after a while.

Yep. No-one is going to tell me to hide in a corner, wearing beige.

Again the MN lack of nuance.

Do you not understand there is a huge gulf between twinset and pearls, being quiet and dressing like Krusty the Clown and being in your face?

It worries me that some people are really a lot dimmer than they appear.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 17/04/2026 14:02

And it wasn’t me that described her clothes as being part of her ‘personality’. You can wear the craziest clothes you can find and it’s irrelevant.

Being loud, whacky and in everyone’s face really is exhausting for others, it takes the energy out of the room.

likelysuspect · 17/04/2026 14:04

Well this thread is a Su Selebration so there is no room for disparaging Im afraid.

Well there clearly is plenty of room, judging by the fact I’m not the only one who thinks she’s annoying…

It worries me that some people made rude assumptions about people they know nothing about.

Tuhafeni · 17/04/2026 14:09

@LiviaDrusillaAugusta but the OP was specifically talking about Su on Pilgrimage. I wonder if you have actually seen her in that series? Yes, she is funny and bubbly. She is certainly. But she has certainly not loud, wacky and in everyone’s face. In fact, she demonstrated enormous sensitivity when other participants were discussing some of the issues they had faced, great curiosity in finding out about other peoples beliefs and it was hugely moving to hear her speak about close friends she had recently lost. Maybe try to think about people in the round before making such harsh judgements?

GellerYeller · 17/04/2026 14:17

I’ve met Su in a work capacity (not showbiz). Can confirm: gloriously pleasant to everyone. Just a very chatty person. To the point she made herself late for an appointment because she stopped to say chat to everyone she saw!
I got the impression she’s one of those classic British eccentrics, rather than something inauthentic she switches on for show.

She didn’t specify the name of the programme, neither did she explain that it was only acceptable to post if it was a positive opinion.

Thankfully the thread police are here to rectify matters 😊

And yet here people are, assuming that there is no middle ground between grey and boring and bright and wacky 🤣

On the Pilgrimage show Su found the middle ground. She wore practical walking clothes just like the other pilgrims but always had something colourful or cheery on as well so never dull.

You would see another, very gentle, thoughtful and authentic side to her if you were to watch the show Drusilla.
