Old enough to remember whole years in which I barely thought about the American president.

This has being going on for years though with little indication that they have been stopped.

I would posit that it's harder than it looks to find a ship that doesn't want be found on the high seas.

Justdancevance · 13/04/2026 17:03

The Iranians understand Trump and tne US far better than the US understand Iran

They are exposing Trump as a tantrum madman on the world stage, surrounded by sycophantic cowards who are standing idly by.
Some of his cabinet like Hegseth are idiots but Vance and Rubio should know better but have let their ambition stand in the way of doing the right thing. History will not look kindly on them for it.

No, not the high seas, I don't think? Actually, the Iranian oil going from there through the SOH to China on Chinese dark ships.

The pic I wanted to include hasn’t loaded 😳

I would have to take issue with Irans view that the US "best" diplomats were on the case. It was JD Vance and a bottle of upholstery cleaner.

LBC spoke to a negotiator yesterday - I only heard a bit but it was really interesting about how to go about it. He agreed that 21 hours was either 20 hours too long (nothing to be even started) or a few weeks? (Not totally sure but it was well more than a day) too short for the first round of talks - seeing as many deals of this magnitude take years to finalise and are done over several lengthy meetings usually.

The negotiator said he would see a starting point as perhaps the US lifting all restrictions and Iran opening the strait - both things they could pull back on at any point so not trying to tie one in to irreversible actions at this point. And then meet again in a month or two.

So if this is how these things go, who was and who was not serious about this?

Surely if you know who owns it, it's not "dark" ?

Good info. So it will be like the Chinese COMAC jets. China could make every system, but to fly it internationally, they need to use approved. And approval for each would take years.

So same with ships. Coasters that stay in Chinese waters, China regs. International means intl rules AND approved systems ?

When I was trying to find stuff earlier on for the legal reason for seizing the Russian shadow fleet, loopholes mentioned were safety risk, environmental etc. So not conforming to SOLAS approved could also be a loophole ?

International safety regs overrule everything (unless your name is Trump, it appears). If a COMAC jet collided with a foreign aircraft in Chinese airspace, China would not be absolved from its responsibilities. Let's pray Chinese ATCs are good.

The same applies to ships.

There are definitely loopholes when it comes to not following SOLUS regs, but because actions have consequences any deviations from the regs must be logged.

I get what you are saying saying but it's not about who owns it. Iran and China can still use dark fleets whoever owns it. It's the arrangement between China and Iran which makes it "dark", I guess?

I realised I knew very little about shipping when I tried to do a fag packet calculation of cost per mile per kg to prove that it was cheaper to make something in the UK rather than China, and was out by a factor of 1,000.

In the wrong direction.

I remember couple of decades ago, the warehouseman where I worked told me it was more expensive to get a container from NW England to Harwich than it was to get the container from Harwich to China.

After my shock self discovery, I was told that generally the journey from port to postbox accounts for 90% of total transport costs.

When you know facts like that, you realise that anyone who tries to extract taxpayers money to "invest in manufacturing" is just a con merchant.

He's meant to be talking about Iran and he's rambling on about the stolen election of 2020!
Hes also said Iran have no guns no army nothing. So how are they firing on Israel?

Clearly a miracle.

Trump just now: "Iran wants to make a deal very badly."

The orange loon continues down his path of delusion.

I rather formed the idea that these "shadow ships" are stopped, and when nobody claims them, seized. Their whole USP is that "nobody" owns them.

I guess it's rather similar to when customs find 1Kg of heroin being carried through the border crossing of a country. The owner is hardly likely to rock up and try and claim it.

I can also imagine that a lot of crew on these shadow vessels have no idea that's what they are. Until they are stopped by a navy, call the number the agent gave them and discover it's a takeaway in Peckham that doesn't open until 7pm GMT.

After two Venezuelan shadow fleet ships were seized and then we had the Russian ship incident in Scotland, I googled 'shadow fleet'. I was expecting ships painted in dark grey, all sorts of dodgy transponder shenanigans, spies etc and was then rather disappointed to learn it was more about sailing under other countries' flags to hide ownership. (I think)

PS I like a good spy thriller.
