Is 100g of pasta too much for 1 person? I think not. Infact it is a lot less than i would usually cook.

75 g dry pasta with lots of veg plus chicken

ArcticBells · 01/04/2026 17:01

I never weigh, just go by the handfuls. I like to think I have small hands 😳

mumofoneAloneandwell · 01/04/2026 17:02

I have never in my life weighed pasta! So I have no idea. At a very vague guess I'd say I probably have about 125g. A 500g bag will do me around 4 meals. Depends how hungry I am.

That said, I rarely eat lunch, I don't have puddings and I don't snack. I stayed with a relative and she served me what I'd consider a toddler size portion of pesto pasta! She gave me this tiny bowl. It was very disappointing. But she then had a cream cake for pudding and through the course of the evening snacked on crisps, cheese and then chocolate! I'd rather just have a decent size dinner and be done.

So my long winded answer to your question is it very much depends what else you eat.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/04/2026 17:06

Yes. I weigh out 75g from when I was calorie countinG and thought not a lot but once cooked and mince or whatever added , it’s fine and often may leave a little

Hangingonbyathread · 01/04/2026 17:08

17yo teen swimmer 250g daily for lunch. Family of 4 - two mahoosive teen swimmers, 4-500g for all of us. Sometimes some leftovers for lunch depending on activity level of teens that day🙄. Our food bill will literally quarter when they leave home !

FancyCatSlave · 01/04/2026 17:08

I do 250g at a time (half a bag) which does me and DD (6) with a generous portion of leftovers (I probably have about 100g, DD about 75g at a guess).

mixandmatch · 01/04/2026 17:11

Well I am going to be brave and say that 100g of pasta is nowhere near enough for me! 200g is more like it.

And I am not overweight but the way I maintain a healthy weight is by eating 500 calories at lunchtime and up to 1000 calories in the evening - partly because I want to be able to eat 200g of pasta if I fancy it! I always have a very healthy protein and veg-based lunch for this very reason...

GrueyTwoey · 01/04/2026 17:23

I only ever eat dinner, I use about half a small bag of pasta for a veg based sauce, a bit less if it's meat based
I'm not overweight, and I don't weigh anything, including myself.

Snorlaxo · 01/04/2026 17:31

I cook 80g dry and have it with some sort of protein like mince, prawns etc

If the pasta was veggie then I’d go for more pasta.

I hear you on the swimmer and the expected food bill drop soon!

HostaCentral · 01/04/2026 17:42

I used two handfulls per person. No idea how much that is? If I add an extra handful, there's always some left. Same with rice.

PyongyangKipperbang · 01/04/2026 17:44

Fuck knows, despite reaching 52 and being a damn good cook if I say so myself, pasta portions is my one failing! Somehow I manage to do just enough for DD to eat and I have to cook more for myself (or more usually, go without as I CBA) or I cook enough to feed half the street!

DonnyDoris · 01/04/2026 17:57

Does everyone really weigh pasta??

Shedmistress · 01/04/2026 18:10

DonnyDoris · 01/04/2026 17:57

Does everyone really weigh pasta??

Yes and rice. 75g dry rice per person for a main so for example witha curry, 50g if served as part of a mixed plate aka salad and main dish.

Talipesmum · 01/04/2026 18:15

Shedmistress · 01/04/2026 16:13

It depends.

Some pasta with a sauce including veg and chickpead etc, 75g each.

Pasta in a basic sauce such as mac and cheese or tomato, 100g.

Yes agree with this. When I’m doing carbonara or something, I do 100g each. But if there’s a lot of tomato, chicken/fish, veg etc, then 75-80g works fine (2 massive teens and 2 adults).

Wednesdaysotherchild · 01/04/2026 18:19

125g, I’m breastfeeding and always hungry!

TwinklyRoseTurtle · 01/04/2026 18:19

I do about 200g per serving 😂

Catisheavyonmylap · 01/04/2026 18:21

Bettercallsalli · 01/04/2026 16:19

No i usually do 100g dry weight but i've been told (by my Mum) it's way too much!!
Not in my house it isn't.
It's going to be a loooong Easter....

It is too much! 75g of uncooked weighs 170g when cooked. No wonder everyone is overweight or obese in the uk. (Puts hard hat on)

SparrowFeet · 01/04/2026 18:26

DonnyDoris · 01/04/2026 17:57

Does everyone really weigh pasta??

No. Life's too short.

I think it's important to weigh pasta with your heart.

I love pasta

I’ve just had a big portion of wholewheat penne with a simple sauce. It was 125g dry (I don’t usually weigh it but did for this thread). It was plenty but I ate it all. The serving recommendation on the packet was 75g dry. I probably usually have a bit less looking at the bowl.

I don’t care if it makes me a fat bastard. I have a horrendous cold and haven’t eaten well for days as didn’t feel like it. This hit the spot.

HennyMcSoon · 01/04/2026 18:37

We do 90g dry pasta each, I weigh it before cooking but don't weigh it afterwards. Dh is 6ft 3" rugby build, at the gym daily and I have two adult sons almost 6ft tall each. Pasta is always served with a protein so it isn't just pasta and a sauce. If it was there would be more pasta for that. The only overweight person in this house is me due to disability and not able to move as much as I would like.

MidnightMeltdown · 01/04/2026 18:41

I’m shocked that so many of you weigh your pasta and cook an exact measure! I’ve never weighed pasta in my life. I just pour it in until it looks like enough!

Secretseverywhere · 01/04/2026 18:42

There’s five of us (youngest 11 so no tiny appetites) and I chuck in the full 500g bag. There’s normally a portion or two leftover for lunch the next day so I think I could get by on 75g per person but I’m a fan of leftovers.
