Is 100g of pasta too much for 1 person? I think not. Infact it is a lot less than i would usually cook.

No

Crikeyalmightey · 01/04/2026 16:07

I think on the bags I've read to allow 75g dry weight per portion. Which doesn't seem like much. I just do it by sight, and the dog gets any extra!

dementedpixie · 01/04/2026 16:07

We tend to weigh 80g per person

If we do a pasta bake we use a 500g bag of pasta and it does 6 portions which is just over 80g each

CatherinedeBourgh · 01/04/2026 16:11

I'd allow about 100g per person but there would always be leftovers. The teens fry them up the next day.

FireHorse2026 · 01/04/2026 16:13

I do 300g for us and three kids but the kids are small so the adult portions are probably just a little under 100g.

Shedmistress · 01/04/2026 16:13

It depends.

Some pasta with a sauce including veg and chickpead etc, 75g each.

Pasta in a basic sauce such as mac and cheese or tomato, 100g.

momager22 · 01/04/2026 16:13

Depends what it’s served with - if it’s mainly just the pasta and a sauce eg carbonara I’d use 100g, if it’s with a portion of meat/ salad then 75g

Sgtmajormummy · 01/04/2026 16:14

DH is Italian and we do 80g if it’s a first course, 100g if it’s the only thing on the menu.

Pootles34 · 01/04/2026 16:16

100g dry weight is plenty. Not weighing it cooked are you?

midgetastic · 01/04/2026 16:17

Tend to use 150g dried between the 2 of us and I have less than half. Always have loads of veggies. Made a simple macaroni cheese once and it looked tiny on the plate

Bettercallsalli · 01/04/2026 16:19

No i usually do 100g dry weight but i've been told (by my Mum) it's way too much!!
Not in my house it isn't.
It's going to be a loooong Easter....

If I am making pasta for my teenage DC, then I do 100g. Said DC has ARFID and ASD and a very limited range of things that are acceptable, and I am also trying to teach a little bit of self-sufficiency and learning how to prepare this simple meal, so we are learning about how to measure out 100g pasta, 100g peas and 100g Quorn Mince and the 100g keeps it simple, as there is only one number to remember.

If DH and I are having pasta I do 166g because that is exactly a third of a 500g packet and anything else makes for annoying mismatched oddments (DC has different variety pasta to us). But when serving up I take a little less than DH (it's not that I don't get as annoyed by "penis portioning" as the next woman, but I do have a lower base-rate of calories needed for running my body than he does) so it's more like him getting 90ish and me getting 80ish. I doubt it makes much difference

YouDriveMeCrazyButICanDoThatMyself · 01/04/2026 16:20

I weigh out 75g dry for a portion for 5ft 11 young adult DS.

If you are weighing cooked then iirc it’s 150g per portion. are you weighing cooked or raw?

Ahh cross post

My mum would share that with my step dad, and then complain she was full, for most people it is a normal portion of pasta, just let her help herself so she can eat what she wants. I am shocked by the tiny portions of real food my mum eats, she always has biscuit room though.

begonefoulclutter · 01/04/2026 16:24

I tip the dry pasta into a colander until the quantity resembles the size of a cooked serving for one person. It doubles in size in the water, so that's the right amount for two.

Don't we all?😁

For two people? 100g for 2!!
Not a chance

JoiseeeEileennnn · 01/04/2026 16:43

I could probably eat a bag to myself

SausageOfAmbiguity · 01/04/2026 16:49

For me (female, 10 stone, maintaining weight):
60g if packed with veg
80g if naked pasta, like carbonara

80g is about 300cals, so that leaves enough for the stuff you add in. If I ate much more I wouldn't be able to eat three good meals a day without putting on weight. You get used to the amount you eat though, so if I started eating 100g no doubt I could get used to that and feel that was the right amount! But I would get porky 😂

FlapperFlamingo · 01/04/2026 16:50

I just do 75g per person, but only if there is a lot of veg/meat to go with it. If there is not lots of accompanying stuff then I'd say 100-115g pp to go with sauce.

Fair 😃

Glittertwins · 01/04/2026 16:50

My DCs have 125g dried weight each if they’re hungry but they do a lot of sport. I put on weight if I eat that much per portion.

Listlostlast · 01/04/2026 16:51

I would guess 100g is about right. I guesstimate every time, either by just pouring it from the jar into the saucepan or by counting a handful per person 😂
