I can't get my head round what can have happened, as he's so ambitious he wouldn't do anything to jeopardise his career, would he???

i heard it was 10 years ago

Sometimes even now I still listen to him reading out Janet and John.
Never, ever fails to make me laugh.

'Pastor Kidneys'...

Letsgobaby26 · 30/03/2026 20:32

I always felt really uncomfortable with the whole "love you, bye" - it felt forced and put the caller/ guest under pressure to respond in kind. I didn't like the power dynamic of that and I could never put my finger on it

This is getting ridiculous now!

What's ridiculous about putting the expectation on guest callers to say "love you, bye" when a large majority of the population don't understand the background to something that has been out of date for quite some time?

That quote is about someone called Richard Mills who was in the Manchester police.

It’s going to be more than drug related. I’m showing my age a little but in the late 90s Johnnie Walker was taken off air when he was found to be and then convicted of possession of Coke. He’d not long been given the Radio 2 drivetime slot when it happened. They suspended him but he was reinstated by the end of the year.

I’ve seen 2 comments on Tattle as others have mentioned. Granted, you have to take everything with a pinch of salt. However, I won’t be surprised (sadly) if there’s some substance to them.

What's been said on Tattle?

PorpoiseWithPurpose · 30/03/2026 20:46

I hope they replace him with Liza Tarbuck now that she’s left her Saturday evening slot.

That would get me back to Radio 2 after departing when dear Ken left. Love her.

That will be the end of my Radio 2 listening days.

Nothing personal to Liza, who I'm sure is a nice lady, but that would be a terrible idea - frankly glad Saturday evenings might now improve.

I will miss my weekly chuckle though as it always made me think of the "Dick Tarbrush" line from porridge.

A few things actually. Someone claimed he had a rep for being “handsy.” There’s another claim that would be close to Schofield territory.

Couldn’t agree more. Liza had incredible taste in music and introduced me to so many artists I’d never have found otherwise. She was warm, genuinely funny, and made her show feel like one big family. Saturday nights cooking dinner just haven’t been the same since.

What “force” was he on? I suspect this is the wrong person and you should get your post deleted asap…..

He wasn't last night when he was on the radio.

and certainly not in about 1978/9 which is when he played the track twice!

YourMagentaCat · 30/03/2026 20:26

Have you forgotten it's a radio show? There are no radio presenters in this list. May as well add Howard from the Halifax adverts and Barry Scott from Cillit Bang.

Well now, some of those fine people cut their teeth in radio, spending years honing their skills on the radio. Some of them host and present their own shows now, some of them have co-hosted radio shows with others. In fact all of them have worked extensively in radio except for Richard Ayoade, who has 'only' recorded a radio series as a performer and is more TV based in his choice of media. Oh yes, @YourMagentaCat , they're a very talented group of people. But you crack on, if you want to compare them to a few well known faces off adverts.

I don't know why she's not more liked than she is. Quick witted, funny and very nice to boot. She's had me in stitches before now. Would be great and more akin to presenters of old.

Itjustnevergetsthere · 30/03/2026 21:18

Couldn't stand him on Radio 1 but loved him on Radio 2. I'm going to miss him. I hope that Ellie Brennan and Tina D won't be affected because of his sacking. New djs like to establish their own crew so I wonder if they'd be moved on. It's bound to be some sort of sexual misconduct that he's been sacked for. This will be a very dark time for him.

itsnotfairisit · 30/03/2026 21:19

I've never enjoyed listening to Mills. Obviously that's not a sacking office, but I never understood how he got so far in the business. I used to work in BBC Radio a long time ago and remember young chaps like him on local radio stations - real keen beans, starting off doing the traffic and eventually getting a late evening slot, and then standing in during the day time, and sometimes graduating to national radio. I knew several with oodles more energy, presence, charm and intelligence than Mills
