They definitely said on the radio this morning it was something to with conduct in a relationship going back many years, so I don’t think drugs.

Beaniebobbins · 30/03/2026 19:46

@Cathydidntcomehome i thought the love you bye came from someone doing it accidentally in a work call and they just started doing it all the time. I might be wrong on that though.

just wondering if there are any decent people out there anywhere now.

It might be but it, if it was, there is definitely a time to appreciate when there is an expiry date on something like that. Over time, fewer people appreciate or understand the origin of it. I'd never listened to Scott on R1 and had very limited listening to him on R2 due to commuting until he took over the breakfast slot. To me, it was something unknown, felt uncomfortable, egocentric and uncomfortable in terms of listening.

purpleme12 · 30/03/2026 19:55

Or Tiny Tim

That's his schtick

NippyNinjaCrab · 30/03/2026 19:56

Please don’t let Gary Davies replace him or anyone again! That voice, the deja wooooo and he gives me the creeps. I love the line up with Vernon, Jeremy and Sara. Not keen on the 2pm slot with anyone on it. Romesh can buzz off too. I like Ellie Brennan she is very good and funny.

Absolutely loathe that phrase, it diminishes the crime and is massively disrespectful to survivors.

madeofmore · 30/03/2026 20:01

Right I think I've cracked it. It could be like the bucket challenge where a presenter does a Monday to Friday stint on the breakfast show and then nominates another presenter halfway through the week to take over the following week and that just rolls on until they run out of people willing or able to do it. At that point they would replace the whole show with just recorded chatter in a small neighbourhood cafe somewhere in the Welsh Valleys, introduced with a recap of the previous week's gossip by Trevor Nelson. A nice n chilled start to the day.

My choice for the breakfast week challenge might include:

Richard Madeley
Joanna Lumley
Trevor McDonald with Sally travel for sidekick
Richard Ayoade
Alison Hammond
Rob Brydon
Aisling Bea

(But anyone could be nominated)

billysboy · 30/03/2026 20:05

The bbc will have Ritchie Anderson in there before long

Please no.

princesspadam · 30/03/2026 20:12

Oh I’m so glad someone else has mentioned Ellie sounding congested all the time!!! I can’t stand that she can’t say junction without sounding like the tunes advert from the 80s.

Ritchie Anderson is just awful

Vernon is the worst of them all with his faux OTT northern-ness and ‘on the tools’ bullshit. Slimy, fake, cheating piece of shit. Janice / Janine thing is so overdone.

i loved Scott’s elder vs millennial and the wonder years. Although I used to turn over for the easiest quiz which was soooo annoying all the begging ‘oh please quiz’

Never liked Zoe doing anything

Sara Cox is ok in small doses, but not kids in the car! I was impressed by her children in need task

paddy - no
romesh - no
sally traffic - no shut up
emma Willis - yawn

miss Simon mayo, Ken & Steve Wright

i think my vote will be for Rylan

CurlewKate · 30/03/2026 20:14

“Love you, bye!” I think came from Adam and Joe on 6 Music a long time ago…

Don't mince your words.

Surely they have a Radio2 playlist? I mean, its not their personal choice is it?

with liza tarbuck's show it was all her choice, her music

Silverbirchleaf · 30/03/2026 20:17

What about Mark Goodier as a replacement?

sofiamofia · 30/03/2026 20:17

same here. I never liked it. I felt he was forcing the caller to diminish real life relationships where they actually love people and instead be forced to say they love him

Well that's quite a stretch!

HoraceCope · 30/03/2026 20:20

dont let it be alison hammond
although tbh i dont care, i stopped listening to radio 2 when scott mills started!

Cathydidntcomehome · 30/03/2026 20:20

From what I can read from all of this is that everyone wants a calm and humorous introduction to the day that gently gets you in the right frame of mind, you feel uplifted and not agitated by inane/ over hyped conversation whilst you drink a cuppa/ get on with your day/ is an antidote to the stress of a typical morning before we all crack on with daily life. Can anyone suggest a solution as I would love it! Or is this the impossible dream?

I would say Radio 3 Unwind but that might not tick the humorous box.

We're totally opposite. I don't mind Gary Davies. Ellie Brennan isn't a DJ and the others try too hard to be comedians.

I thought it was weird that Scott was away but his team like Ellie was still there and that I don’t think he said he was going to be off.

I am really sad about this - enjoyed the show. Especially Elder versus millennial. I am similar to Scott Mills on age and everything he would bring up for the millennials is so true! I thought he was a good presenter and very much a team effort.

what ever has happened he has probably admitted fault and been sacked for gross misconduct.

I cannot believe that the BBC has allowed people like Jimmy saville, Rolf Harris and Huw Edward’s to be employed for years. Now they are cracking down on everything. This allegation from 10 years ago. Also because we don’t know we assume the worst that it is illegal like Huw Edwards. Huw Edward’s was suspended for ages. But he was mentally ill and receiving inpatient hospital care. Plus there was a police investigation going on.

It’s probably not. Likely to be a personal relationship with an employee that was seemed inappropriate. But nothing like criminal behaviour such as being a sexual offender against children.

Completely agree. I’m so sad tonight.

interesting the internet is full of where is the investigation etc. most are supportive overall.

My worry, is there is a conspiracy hunt and without evidence or explanation he ends up exceptionally unwell.

trial by media for alleged conduct ten years ago sits uneasy with me.

Have you forgotten it's a radio show? There are no radio presenters in this list. May as well add Howard from the Halifax adverts and Barry Scott from Cillit Bang.

Thank you - will take a look.

PangolinPan · 30/03/2026 20:27

I can't get my head round what can have happened, as he's so ambitious he wouldn't do anything to jeopardise his career, would he???

Moonandstarsandsun · 30/03/2026 20:27

Beachtastic · 30/03/2026 18:49

I'll never forget him blubbing over Tessa and putting on Sister Sledge's He's the Greatest Dancer twice in a row. Not sure why. I mean, it IS a great track, but imagine a Radio 1 DJ doing that now!

I thought he was dead?

YourMagentaCat · 30/03/2026 20:28

He wasn't last night when he was on the radio.

I really like OJ but I don’t think he’s a big enough name to carry the flagship show of the most listened to radio station in the UK. It needs to be someone at the level of Terry Wogan, Chris Evans, Zoe Ball - a household name.

No but the inevitable reshuffle when they pick someone else should mean that OJ now gets a permanent daytime slot. He deserves it. He's good and he's earned his stripes.
